I have been a Pei Wei fan for years but this was my first time at this location. I ordered my usual Pad Thai with no chicken and asked for extra egg and peanuts. I waited almost 20 minutes and finally had to ask. Server apologized and said my order had been skipped but it would be out in 5 minutes. My wife and I accidentally found Pei Wei while picking up furniture in the area about 2 months ago. We had lunch there at that time and again today. Both visits were 5 star experiences. The food was hot and delicious and made with a few different special requests. Each visit the food was made perfectly as requested. Each visit we were primarily served by a different employee. And each time service was quick, easy and excellent. The restaurant was clean each time. Today the restaurant was much busier than our first visit. Plates stayed at the tables a little longer than they should have been there. But with only one employee working outside of the kitchen to handle the entire restaurant including ordering, service and clean up, it was understandable for the circumstances. Our meals were priced appropriately and in the face of 2024 bidenomics inflation the price for the entrees were very competitive. Especially taking into consideration a fresh made Mongolian Steak entree with brown rice was $12.99, plus a regular sized fountain drink for $2.99. So $16 + tax for a solid delicious freshly cooked meal. I just paid $18 for a double western bacon cheeseburger combo at Carls last week, and it was far below par. The eat-in food is also served with non-disposable plates and with an actual silverware option. Not a fast food feel at all. They do a great job labeling the vegan/vegetarian items, so that makes ordering easy. They use firm baked tofu for their stir fry, so the tofu dishes are much more favorable and satisfying without the need for deep-frying. This location has lots of parking and I suggest ordering ahead through the app or website, especially if they are having one of their frequent promotions. Even better? Pei Wei is a great place to stop in for some quick service Asian fusion take out. The restaurant itself is clean and there is plenty of seating. I like that they have their menu on a large screen when you're waiting in line so that you can figure out what you'd like to order then and there rather than waiting until you get up to the front. The cashier working today was very polite and helpful. The portions are large enough to share between two people and all of the chicken, shrimp, and tofu entrees come with rice or noodles! We tried the orange chicken (with noodles) and the Thai Dynamite Crispy Tofu. I like that the orange chicken was made with white chicken breast, most Asian (Chinese/Thai) restaurants use thin and stringy chicken often too tough or chewy to even eat, but this chicken was cut into little bite size pieces and each piece was delicious! The Thai Dynamite Crispy Tofu was amazing, maybe the best crispy tofu I've ever ordered out, it was spicy but not over powerful and the crunchy outside was amazing, the tofu itself was still spongey and not dry at all. I'd suggest mixing your entree with your rice or noodles to coat them in the sauce of the entree. I would return when I am in the area and would recommend! read more

In the Mongolian beef, the mushrooms are undercooked (basically not cooked at all), the meat tasted charred, and there was no sauce and very minimal flavor. I've had a bad experience every single time I decide to give pei wei another try. I've learned my lesson. Pick up stix is cheaper, gives you more food, and overall much better. OR you can give a real Chinese food restaurant your business. It doesn't cost any more than pei wei and you get a much better bang for your buck. As I am sitting at my table I hear the cooks saying "won ton soup" after about 10 minutes. I'm sitting here thinking "how long does it f'ing take to make soup?" (with what is probably a premade wonton) so about 15 minutes in, he brings my soup. It's covered, like covered in green onions, I'm like whatever I can't wait to get some hot soup in me! Ok here's the bad part- it was WARM not hot, I bit into the wonton, COLD! I'm assuming it's been refrigerated and they just drop it in the broth which then cools the broth off! Also it said there was lemongrass in it? Where? I didn't taste any bitterness from that herb? Never again, like how can you F-up soup? I have been here before, ordering the pad Thai and I swore never again sticky and bland, no flavor. I feel like the cooks are just going through the motions, it's like add a teaspoon of garlic to it and it might be ok? During a recent Sunday outing, food was lackluster (their Kung Pao Chicken has lost its spunk) and the staff seemed to be annoyed by the fact I was eating there at all. I called to talk to the manager once we tried the food and they didn't want to refund me. I am 35 miles away and picked up dinner on the way home after visiting family. I do not like leaving a negative review but my dining experience today warrants it. I ordered one of my favorites "Mongolian Steak". In the past, it was always cooked to perfection and tender but not so much today. The meat was grisly and tough and I doubt it would be up to the standard that Pei Wei expects of its meat. I don't know if they have changed their supplier but, they need to do a better quality check of their food. Pei Wei Rocks! We've been going to Pei Wei for over a decade. When I lived in Long Beach, the location on Seal Beach Boulevard, was a great place to for me to pick up dinner for the family on the way home. Then one day at of nowhere, it was closed. A few years ago we moved to Irvine and rediscovered Pei Wei. The only Pei Wei left in Southern California is the location at the Tustin Marketplace. It's still a consistent go to for me and my family. We love the Mongolian Beef, the Kung Pao plates and my favorite is the Spicy Drunken Noodles! I add shrimp and sometimes even beef to the chicken, it's so cheap to add the extra protein. Roberto and his staff are awesome and the food is always served quickly with a smile! I used to get takeout from this chain a lot at another location but it has been many years since that location closed. Tried this location tonight and the food was horrible. On the plus side the staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Wonton soup was green for some reason and was luke warm (we dined in). Chicken pad Thai was flavorless, the chunks of chicken all had to be cut, and all the cilantro was left on the stem. Beef with broccoli- steamed rice was under cooked and you could taste the corn starch on the beef. Weird texture and aftertaste. Ate about 30% of our meal and loved on. read more
