I've been a loyal customer here for about a year, but recently had a terrible experience. I was returning clothes because I bought them for a new job and once I got on the job I realized they were not appropriate. I never wore the clothes. I bring them back and the girl working (not Pema the owner) asked me a lot of prying questions about why I brought them back, if I had worn them, and smelled the clothes telling me that they smelled like B.O. accusing me of lying to her. I was extremely offended by this because it was highly unprofessional and because they have known who I am for a while now - I have spent hundreds if not a thousand here. All of the girls that work here know me by face and know my dog too. The owner was apologetic after I informed her of this incident, but I am no longer going to frequent this boutique. read more

My god I love this place. So many great pieces and with prices across the board you'll find something you can love and afford. The jewelry which is what makes this shop amazing is simply stunning, much of it very minimal. Other great accessories like bags, belts and shoes fill the store and are worth a look. Prices are on the high side, but they have got to have one of the most diverse and just amazing selection of jewelry I have ever seen in a boutique brooklyn shop. TOTALLY worth the trip out to come and peruse the collections... lots of really unique and just lovely necklaces, earrings, rings, you name it. Their bag collection makes you angry at having a budget. Clothing selection could be better. Shoes were ok. The winner here is the jewelry. The jewelry selection here is great! There are pieces that range from low-end to high-end, so there's something for everyone. It's all well done and you can tell that the owners of the store choose their jewelry carefully, because it's all well thought out. Simply stunning boutique in Williamsburg! I've been a regular shopper for years- the store is always filled with gorgeous clothes, shoes, and accessories. It's been around the neighborhood for more than TEN years, so of course there must be a good reason why it's still doing so great! A lot of big companies are taking up many of small businesses in Bedford, so it's nice to have at least one familiar location to go back to. This store is unapologetically itself. I love coming to Pema NY whenever I'm in Williamsburg. It has the best selection of jewelry that you will absolutely not find anywhere else. Manhattan jewelry stores tend to be too mainstream and this gem in Brooklyn has some of the best accessories around. For example, you can find anything from a simple cupcake pendant to a sky-diving themed necklace, complete with parachute and plane! Did I mention an awesome selection of rings and broaches, too? I found the most beautiful Empire State building pendant here for my cousin's wedding gift and a gorgeous mesh braided cuff! There is also a neat selection of decently priced ($50-200) dresses, purses, hats and Ray-Ban sunglasses. Very hip, I know, but most of the store are pieces you can integrate into your non-hip wardrobe. read more

A trendy little place that you can usually find a decently priced dress or top on the quick. Plenty of Chelsea Crew shoes in stock and they frequently change for the season. The prices vary; most dresses and tops are around the $50-$70 range but aren't always the best quality. A large selection of jewelry is also offered at a variety of prices. read more

New to the neighborhood and have been in search of dresses for upcoming occasions. After looking on Yelp/wandering around, Pema definitely had the best variety of dresses I've seen so far. And very affordable prices - most dresses on the sale rack were between $40-80. The dress quality feels a few notches above H&M. Sadly, I didn't buy anything because the no-lining hipster dress style just isn't flattering on me. But, they seem to have a huge variety and I'll keep coming back - likely when the weather starts cooling so the shopping experience is a little more pleasant (didn't seem to have AC). read more

Cute clothes and tons of great jewelry at decent prices. Disappointed with the return policy. I bought a dress there, followed the washing directions with care, and it still bleed to the point that it can't be worn again. Clearly, this had to have happened to everyone who bought the dress but they didn't even consider returning it. Disappointed they would sell something that is bound to be ruined after washing. read more

WOW! I wandered into this store on a vacation last weekend from Chicago on a whim and I was blown away. Every piece in the store felt like it fit my unique style, and yet it was so affordable. I was highly disappointed with the sales clerk. I requested to see what looked like a green quarts pendant for $300. The clerk first told me it was green citrine then corrected herself saying it was something else. At that point I already questioned the sale, but I tried it on anyway. Unfortunately the necklace wasn't my style, but it was beautiful. I kindly handed it back explaining my reason and asking for something similar I may have overlooked. The first thing out of the clerks mouth was maybe I should look for something in a lower price range or at another store. I was immediately insulted, then shocked as she continued to suggested cheaper options after I clearly stated it was not the price that influenced my decision. Not once did she suggest another green pendant, she actually had the nerve to try and show me $10 plastic pendants on the counter. I was so shocked I actually started to laugh at her out of frustration. Each piece of jewelry I was wearing was the same price or double the cost of the item I was looking at. I'd think a good sales clerk would notice that and not judge me based on my look of the day. (t-shirt, jeans, Coach bag...not to mention it's Hipsterville in Williamsburg so I never expected to be judged based on appearance) I've never taken the time to write a review before, but I have never been so insulted during a shopping experience before. read more

100% my favorite boutique in Brooklyn -- I come here every single time I'm in Williamsburg. I'm always amazed at the selection, and while some pieces are priced a bit out of my range, I can always find something within my budget. I have two "casual" dresses (unlined) and a lined summer dress that I wore to a wedding. Oftentimes, I'm bringing armfuls of dresses into the fitting room in hopes that I can narrow it down to one. The best thing about this place is that I can always find dresses that are short enough without having to get them hemmed (I'm about 5'3", and cute summer dresses that hit at the shin and have waists that sag to my ass are the bane of my existence). Have never had issues with wear and tear, and I think the quality is great for what you pay. I'm always bringing friends from out-of-town here -- most like that you get interesting yet high quality pieces. As much as I love the idea of taking them thrifting or shopping at the Flea, it's near impossible to find something that actually works for everyday. The dresses here have the kinds of quirky patterns and interesting cuts that I'm always seeking out, but at a great price. read more

Seriously... wow. That's all I can say about this boutique. I'm originally from LA/Beverly Hills and trust me when I say, that I've definitely seen it all. It's hard to come across a hidden gem like Pema, where the owner herself buys only the best of the best merchandise for this store. I had the chance of stumbling across this boutique when I visited New York, and snagged a couple pieces that have literally been a closet STAPLE of mine for YEARS now. Everything from the employees, to even the owner herself, Pema, were so sweet in making my visit even more memorable. Pema even called me a cab herself to ensure that I wouldn't get lost. THIS is the difference between those big department stores versus small businesses owned by REAL people. Really, they are the most genuine people and I'm proud to say that this will be my new go-to boutique/store whenever I visit New York on business. Love love love!!! read more

I always find the cutest things here! I've been coming here for a few years now and I think their selection has only gotten better over time. The staff is nice and it's easy to go try things on, they never make you feel rushed. I must have tried on almost 20 dresses one time before I decided on one and they were totally cool about it. i have bought one great jumper from here (overpriced for sure), and one ring that i get TONS of compliments on, that is the extent of positive things i can say for this store. my mother bought a shawl that literally became unraveled the next day, they wouldn't take it back, so she had to go home and sew it herself. the final tipping point for me is that i bought a pair of $80 jeans that didn't seem worth it, but since they were made in the US i went for it, only to discover that they universally sell online for $40. i would put this boutique store in the category of 'disconnected, uninspired, overpriced poorly made clothing'. there are so many amazing stores in bk that really have unique, well-made, hand-picked clothes, in all price ranges. shame on you PEMA, for outright doubling the price of an item. i will likely never shop there again. read more
