The Tenby town walls are Grade I-listed medieval defensive structures around the town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire. They are assessed as one of the most important surviving medieval city walls in Britain. The walls were built in the 13th century by the Earls of Pembroke and improved in the 1450s. They were last known to have been repaired in 1588 and have declined thereafter. Most of the town's gates were demolished beginning in the 18th century and only one survives

The walls were built by the Normans back in 1296 and this gate was, at that time, a single arch. However, later, a barbican was added to protect the gate. In the 19th century, other arches were knocked through owing to the increased number of people passing through. The wooden gates have not survived although the huge slots which housed the bolts can still be seen. During the French Revolutionary War a roof was added to proved an ammunition store. There is a reference library on the first floor, although I haven't visited that part of the library. The books are available to search and reserve on the council website but this doesn't seem to be very well publicised. There is a free car park behind the library and a lift up to the ground floor (it's located in a hilly part of town!).

It was the work of a Mr John Charles Froyne who was Chief Constructor of Pembroke Dockyard and later Mayor of the Borough in 1897. Apparently, when the building was sold to WH Smith it was in the deeds that the council must have access to the clock twice a year for maintenance! Without a doubt I think this building with its red clock tower is the most interesting to be seen in Pembroke it certainly stands out from all the rest too, being painted red!

You can go on a small tour and climb some stone stairways and then wave at the vertigo fearing person (me) who is enjoying the sunshine and the flowers in the garden. The castle was used to film a recent version of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Dodie Smith's I capture the castle for which the moat was filled. Great beach nearby.

Parts of the castle are a bit broken down bit you can still go into rooms and climb some of the stairs. If you go into some of the towers you can get a great biew of the beach. It's pretty natural rounded shape, flanked on either side by long, sandy beaches, along with the plethora of boats and small vessels along the jetty, makes this a great place for an evening stroll. Spend the day on either North or South beach then come and wander around here in the evening, looking at the pretty coloured fishermans cottages and watching the world go by. A visit to Tenby isn't complete without a walk around the harbour, finished off by a dinner of local fish in one of the lovely local restaurants.

It has three floors. The ground floor has the visitors entrance, a replica kitchen, and tiny garden. Going up one floor gives you the family eating area and various games from the period. The top floor is a bedroom with a bonus semi-view to the sea. Because everything is a replica, everything can be touched and examined, which makes it great for kids. However, if you're looking for a true period home you may be disappointed. If you do go, I strongly recommend you chat with the workers. I usually don't, but found them very informative about the kitchen's chimney, possible connectors to the building next door, indoor plumbing for the loo, children's games, and more. All of this review is to say, if you have 15-20 minutes and want to see something from historical Tenby or to get out of the sun, go. If you're looking for a historical home, perhaps skip this one.

However, it's very historically interesting and learning about the man who lived there and his occupations was very interesting - (no spoilers haha!). I would definitely recommend this to National Trust members as it's free entry for them, however if you're not a member it might be worth skipping here as National Trust can be pricey. They've tried their best to make it as child-friendly as possible with toys and games from the time period, but if you have young children it may not be the best place, especially if they're eager to get to the beach! Overall, great for adults and older people for a quick historical endeavour, but not idealistic for young children.

Saint Davids is the home of the Celtic Church , there was a religious centre here before Canterbury…read moreor York , infact there was a church here over 1500 years ago . The bishops palace was added to the cathedral site in the 1200s and its a very extensive ruin and shows just how well the religious life could be in those days . Its really good value , amazed at the differance in price when compared with England . Well worth a visit .
