Half of the library is dedicated to kids so there are a ton of kids and some young adult books. There is a decent selection of fiction and non fiction here, more than I was expecting for such a small branch library. I did find some interesting books and I was able to use the self checkout with no issues since I already had a Redwood City library card. They also had a small selection of newspapers and magazines as well!

This address is for the Schaberg branch, not the big main library downtown…read more We come here for baby storytime (2nd and 4th Saturday of the month) since it's the only one in Redwood City with weekend storytime for babies. The rest are all weekday mornings and probably geared towards the stay-at-home-mom crowd. The location is also local for us so we walk here when the weather is good. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood (West Roosevelt) and near a few businesses (a shopping center with one of our favorite Sushi places, Oh Baby Sushi, a mediocre Rite Aid and Key Market, a neighborhood grocery store that has very good bbq tri-tip sandwiches on the weekends). Parking is usually not a problem, even if you have to walk a little from parking near houses. Compared to the congested nightmare that is downtown, the parking situation here is easy peasy and best of all, free. Overall, the library is decent but small, as expected with a branch building. That said, there's a pretty big baby / kids section with tons of picture books on display and pretty good selections. The storytime lasts until the kids are tired of listening and they go through lots of books in one sitting. There is also a reading program here that logs books read (storytime readings count) and you get incentives for # of books read, such as meals at local businesses like the Old Spaghetti Factory. The downside to having a big children's section is loud children running around if you're trying to get quiet work done. Young adult novels are also plenty. If you have kids this would be a good place to bring them to kill some time and get hooked on reading. Adult / regular bookshelves are less plentiful here so if that's what you're looking for, you're better off at the downtown library or at the San Mateo city library -- both are huge in comparison and have way more seating / workspace.

It's small, intimate, cozy, and homey. There's a fireplace and big leather sofas and chairs. There's stuffed animals, a small garden with a bench in the back (I used to water those plants!), and jigsaw puzzles for kids. You will get to know the librarians and staff here. There's story times and events for adults as well as kids. They really make it like a community center. I make sure to stop by whenever I visit my parents and I love saying hi to my old coworkers and seeing how the library is growing and changing. It's a great place to get movies, books, magazines, the daily newspaper, and use the WiFi, or their desktop computers and printers. They have less selection than the main library on Primrose near downtown, but the parking is free here and they have all the new DVDs and books and fewer library patrons come to the Easton Branch. Two stories. Adult section upstairs. Beautiful natural light. Fans on the ceiling. I picked up a flyer on the table and they had a magic show at 3 pm for the kids (kids at heart). I'll call him Magic Mike. He's an elementary school teacher in Berkeley. Great show. He kept the attention of 25 to 30 toddlers to older kids. Participation. Very tailored to the library, told a story about the Giant who bullied a small child but they reversed it to giant magically became small in a magic castle. He got a playing card and it turned into a library card. Gave out prizes, book marker and jelly bean. There was laughter in the house.

This library is open to the Public and both caroline and antonella have zero public service skills. caroline was brash and unhelpful to me. caroline actually walked up to me while I was at a computer and slammed down some papers at my workstation. caroline insisted that everyone sign a sign in sheet at the door. This is a violation of ones Fourth Amendment. A law library in violation of the U.S. Constitution!! antonella was extremely uptight and angry with all of the Public patrons in the library. antonella actually touched me on the back while I was seated at a computer. It appeared to me and perhaps others that both caroline and antoella use every corner of the library to mark their territory. The Public that pay the bills including court fees deserve so much better. Immediately terminate both caroline and antonella!!

Ok I have to admit in the beginning when one of my study group member suggested to meet at Stanford…read moreinstead of the San Mateo Library I was hesitant. Granted it is closer to where I live in San Jose but driving into the Stanford area and out is not the easiest thing to do, not to mention lack of food venues. But now it has become "the go to place" because: 1. The library doesn't close until 7pm - which is later than most other libraries. And you can still get in as long as someone inside opens the door for you. 2. There are plenty of spacious rooms with white boards - ideal for group meetings. 3. Internet connection is excellent - yes they offer free guest log in. 4. There is a parking structure and is free after 6pm on weekdays and all day during weekends. 5. The ambiance is awesome because...well it's Stanford campus. The only thing I don't like is that I have to pack lunch but as a result we got more hours out of our studying.
