Shirley put in a lot of time and worked hard to get the will completed as we wanted it. We weren't sure what the options were or what we wanted to start with and it took a few iterations to get it right. but the cost was reasonable and Shirley has a good knowledge of the subject. I suspect that this was much more economical than most solicitors would be, and there's no doubting Shirley's commitment to looking after her clients and getting it right right. Many thanks - recommended!

On the contrary, all responsibility for gathering information and documentation for the case was put on me and I felt that I was doing a lot of work. I also disagree with the "friendly ,approachable and professional..." description with which the firm describes itself. Starting with "approachable" - I often sent e-mail messages to his office which were totally ignored, not even a confirmation. The office work seemed to me very sloppy. I was asked to repeat information a number of times, since apparently nobody seemed to keep track of my very thoroughly detailed email messages. The messages I received from his office were written unclearly and often failed to answer simple questions I had asked previously. When after a month of no response from his office I complained about this situation, Mr Sheridan became angry and said that if I wish my case to me dealt with "urgently" his hourly rate would increase. When I questioned his final cost (which seemed to me extremely high for writing 2 letters and about 4 emails) he again became very angry and accused me of being "disrespectful" and trying to undermine his work. He also childishly (and in my eyes unprofessionally) threatened to withdraw his request for a contribution to his fees from the sued lawyers firm. In the final invoice he wrote that the time spent on the case was 7 and a half hours with 26 letters, emails and faxes, while I had been sent copies of only two letters, no faxes and about 4 to 6 e-mails. Towards the end of the case,in two days his final cost jumped from 1800 pounds to 2320 (before vat). I believe that this increase was some kind of revenge for my criticism since his explanation to this increase was only: "negotiations on costs and with yourself"

The…read moreTakeLegalAdvice.com website is basically an online service which matches your legal requirements to the right law firm. Say for example you wanted an employmnet solicitor in London you would enter the details of your requirements such as the type of industry you are in etc.. and they will match you with a law firm from a database of over 15,000 lawyers. This takes a lot of effort, time and stress out of trying to find one yourself, and then not knowing whether you have chosen the best solicitor for your case. Also there is no cost to using the systme and you are not obligated to using any solicitor they suggest. I highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for a solicitor / lawyer. Needless to say all the lawyers I spoke to wanted me to put 1-2K up front, but not Charles Russell. Not only did they quote me a price on the job, they also stuck to it, despite going over! Fast forward another 6 years and I have used them plenty of times, both for IT related, IP related and property related issues. The various teams I have worked with have always been hugely professional and not just do what they are meant to but also come up with innovative ideas and solutions. I have even taken hour long, fact finding calls and not been charged. Charles Russell are great lawyers, but at the same time they do not act like typical money-grabbing lawyers. By way of a great example of their reach, at a dinner party recently I was talking property law with another person there. When it came to recommending lawyers, another person at this party also, completely by chance, recommended Charles Russell, without my prompting. Charles Russell aren't the only lawyers in London, and I have plenty of friends in the profession, but they are the best ones I have come across yet, and alas I have had to deal with a few!

They appear to hire quite a lot of junior and trainee solicitors. They charge the same and higher fees as other good firms of solicitors in the centre of London charge for partners. This is definitely a case of buyer beware, unless you have a lot of money to throw their way.

Calvert Smith & Sutcliffe Ltd I have to give FULL STARS as conveyance solicitors…read more Buying a home has been a nightmare, even worse if you don't have the right solicitor. I was unlucky the first time, even though the original solicitors I choose was award winning one, their conduct was unprofessional when things went pear shaped, but that was just my personal experience. Thankfully Calvert Smith & Sutcliffe Ltd sorted it out. Put simply, WORD OF MOUTH has helped me more.... so here goes: Calvert Smith & Sutcliffe Ltd, specifically Ms Davis (conveyance solicitor we used) has a STRAIGHT FORWARD work ethic, her honesty in the process, professionalism, knowledge, and quick responses to our questions was a breath of fresh air. She did not just send a quick email/call, she actually bothered to send a letter to follow up each time for key matters, even after things have been fully paid and completed. As simple as this may seem, I have not had this experience with other firms in London e.g. supply and demand I feel reduces quality of customer service you recieve. The quote I received from Calvert Smith & Sutcliffe was reasonably priced with no hidden costs in the terms and conditions which I had to watch out for when trying to find the right person. TBH I went with her after a lot consideration, but I knew little about the firm besides the quote and the manner in which they communicated with me when searching for quotes (I think it says a lot about a company work ethic if they are not pushy over the phone, being straight forward in the pricing and don't add unnecessary charges, which reflects my experience with Ms Davis). So thank you for making the end part of the purchase a simple one. In London I found that I was being quoted silly amounts by others or low quotes riddled with complex terms and conditions with unnecessary hidden costs or poor advise. Overall it is a hard to find a good conveyance solicitor, so I hope this review helps others who may be struggling to find the right conveyance solicitor within London.
