So I lived at Camden Crest Apartments in Farmington, MO for 4 years which is owned and family…read moremanaged by Pamela and Mark Heisel or Camden Crest, LLC. Had no problems living here the first 3.5 years, but had issues with management about 6 months before I moved out that lead to being the reason I left. I had put up a LGBTQ pride flag on the inside of one of my window as interior decoration and doubled as a cute partial drape/curtain that put gorgeous rainbow colors on all my walls when the sunlight hit it. Within a week after putting the flag up, my apartment manager, Pam, was waiting at my apartment for me in her car thinking I wasn't home even though I was. Had a friend coming over to visit that day that Pam mistook for being the tenant, even though I'd lived there for over 3 years at that point she acted like she had no idea. She screamed at my friend in the parking lot about the pride flag being up and how it needed to come down immediately, she gave my friend a panic attack in doing so and my friend had to call me down to talk to Pam. She told me that the flag needed to come down immediately. I told her nothing in the lease said it was not allowed and that I would double check it but if I wasn't in the wrong it would be staying up. The next week I got a demand letter from a lawyer on behalf of the Heisel family, stating a had 5 days to remove the flag or they would sue me for breaking the lease. The only clauses on the lease that they claimed me in violation of were; apartment maintenance and commercial activity. They said that nails, screws, or any other device used for hanging items on or from the walls is not permitted at all without prior written consent from the lessor, ridiculous in my opinion they expect written consent to hang ANYTHING at all. They also tried claiming I was advertising commercial activity by hanging any sign, advertisement, or announcement but none of those define what a flag is. The commercial activity clause was completely incorrect but they did get me on a technicality with the apartment maintenance clause considering I had used command hooks on the wall to secure the flag over part of the window. Fixed this problem by constructing a frame from PVC pipe that went around the window and held the flag up completely off the wall. Sent her pics of the frame and explained how I still am not violating the lease and told her basically good luck suing me now and also put in my notice to move out. Told her that I would not be supporting their homophobic business any longer. After moving out they completely ignored all my texts and calls and never returned my deposit, I had to take them to small claims court just to get my deposit back which wasn't easy having moved over an hour away. Definitely don't recommend this place to anyone ESPECIALLY anyone part of the LGBTQ community. Big fu to Pam :)
