We have been coming here for years and the food has always been fresh and served hot on the table. The menu selection is good and has always been consistently very good. The service is good and friendly and much improved with the promotion Burke to the manager position. He is the only manager who remembers your name and gives you a welcoming smile when you enter. I see the general manager there but he does not say much. So, if you want a good tasting and reasonably priced meal, I strongly recommend them. read more

Another new place to try while seeing family in Dallas. Apparently this is there go to place. They always get the same waiter and say hi to the manager. We are Italian and tend to be picky but I was told this was their favorite Italian restaurant. There was about 20-25 of us and we were seated in the back. The waiter, I forget his name, took all our drink, appetizer, and entry orders without writing anything down. I thought this wasn't going to go good but that guy remembered everything. I don't think he perspired the entire night. He was cool as a cucumber. I couldn't tell you what everyone ordered but I do know my capellini, meatballs, and alfredo were delicious. I've not been to Penne for quite a long time (we used to go a LOT in the past). I decided to return with a friend for dinner. The renovation is brighter (I like the table cloths), but it looks a bit sterile (get some color on those walls). As in the past, the bread quality is still downright pathetic. It was back then and still is now. It's complimentary, but so is bread in France and Italy, and they present superb bread at their restaurants. Penne has no excuse to use cheap, white bread that's tasteless with no texture! It's just inexcusable. I don't think this will change as it's been this way for a long time. Secondly, we ordered the Caprese Salad appetizer. It, too, was a sad representation of what the real thing should be. I'm native Italian, and I would be ashamed to serve what I got. The tomatoes were those cheap, hard, pale ones (I know my tomatoes and there is better out there). What happened to red, ripe tomatoes? Also they sat on a bed of arugula topped with tasteless mozzarella (bufala type would be nice). Worst of all there was NO balsamic drizzle (a must) and no detectable dressing of sorts - just pale and tastless. Come on! It's obvious that Penne is cutting corners, and I'm sorry to say that I was thoroughly disappointed. For the prices charged (especially when dishes are even LESS expensive in Europe and higher quality), there is no excuse for the poor quality here. Sorry, but I wish it could've been a better experience. The other dish that I had (cappellini arrabiata) was pretty good. There is no finesse to the sauce, though - just a quick, thrown-together sauce. Too bad. read more

SERVING SIZE is seriously minuscule for the expensive price! I literally took 6 bites of my zucchini pasta bowl with 5 teeny, thin slices of sausage- ALL GONE! I don't think I've ever been served such a teeny portion in an Italian restaurant in my life. Service from a very nice and smiling Italian? (guessing) female was pleasant but ultra slow. I waited a good 10 minutes and finally had to flag her down to place my order. From there all was A-ok, though I had to ask for my iced tea to be refilled, and asked again for more lemon. If you're one of the 'ladies-who-lunch' so prevalent in this neighborhood, or the 70s plus oldsters who also apparently dine here, the serving sizes might suffice. The service is always great. In our group we have a few people with some food limitations, (gluten, and more complications). The servers make it easy to accommodate. This is always much appreciated. They served a table for 8 with ease, and kept the wine and cocktails flowing. Food is okay and at times feels dated (veggie medley pictured). To go order. I don't know what possessed me to try this place again after many years. This was the most disappointing Italian food I've ever eaten. I did a build your own pasta with tomato basil (incredibly bland - basically like Ragú) and a meat ball. Also ordered a lasagna that was extremely small, the size of the palm of my hand. Caesar salad and "focaccia" bread which was just bare pizza dough basically. Utterly depressing, bland, incredibly overpriced. All of that was $52. Never again. read more

The crispy grilled bread is a perfect compliment to the ripe tomatoes. -Blackened Chicken Alfredo - my husband's go to every time! -Pumpkin Gnocchi - if I am needing a bit of fall, this is what I order. It is light and delicious. The bits of fried sage put this dish over the edge delicious. -Lasagna - like béchamel sauce? You will LOVE this lasagna. Hearty, meaty, creamy, noodley - it is a winner! -Chicken or Eggplant Parmesean - simple, and classically tasty. Penne Pomodoro is simply wonderful! The servers are always friendly and personable, especially Terry, the lovely woman at the front desk most often! There is always a delicious smell when you walk in of Italian food! Speaking of food, it is imply never misses. From their heavenly appetizers to penne pasta to margherita pizzas and much more, there is no wrong choice on their menu! I would say they kind of changed the vibe of the restaurant from a very homey and authentic Italian feel to a more modern style, by painting the once tomato red walls to white and making other significant changes. I've been to this restaurant/location a couple times mainly for brunch and it's always been a good experience. Coming to this location I've never had to wait long for a table. Service is pretty speedy and the servers I've encountered have been friendly, as well. I've tried the breakfast pizza and it was pretty good. This time I tried the penne hash. It was a different set up compared to other hashes I've had. Wasn't a huge fan of the red sauce that came on top of it or the quality of the potatoes but overall it was straight. Meh, food was edible but nothing to write home about. However, the Sunday day drinking is why we came-cheap mimosas, bellinis, and bloody Mary's. I had the savory waffle and my friend ordered the breakfast pizza. Neither of us finished our food because the serving size was large. Alright, so I'm bucking the 4-star trend here... So far, of all the locations, this is my least favorite. Lakewood still reigns & I don't mind Snider Plaza, either. A girlfriend of mine was in town on Sunday & we decided to do brunch here as a middle meeting ground between our locations. It was relatively empty when we first arrived, so we were seated immediately, which was nice. After that, things went downhill quickly. Sadly, the service was not good. Not even close to good. Sub par is putting it nicely. Once we sat down, we were alone for at least 10 minutes before someone got our drink order. Again, the place was not crowded in the least, so this was a little ridiculous. My friend & I decided to do the $1 mimosas & bellinis, which were decent, but we were never offered refills on them. I realize they don't make a ton of money on the cheap drinks, but don't ignore us just because you don't want to get us another beverage. And it wasn't just the alcohol - my water ran dry multiple times without so much as a glance or care by the waiter. Honestly, he appeared too busy with the large parties to be bothered by the two of us. Don't get me wrong - the staff was all nice enough. No one was rude or disrespectful in the least. But no one went out of their way to make us feel welcome, either. They even seemed a little annoyed that we were taking up valuable booth space when the church crowd of families and large parties rolled in around noon. We sat around for a bit after we finished our meal, but I'm pretty sure that is allowed during Sunday brunch. The biggest disappointment of my visit: the Penne Hash wasn't even close to the same as the other locations *sigh* The eggs were extremely runny, the hash didn't have much of a taste, and my toast was mostly burnt & chewy. Definitely not what I was expecting :( I'm sorry for having neglected the Lakewood location... Next time, I'll suck it up & drive the extra 15 minutes & enjoy my brunch! read more

The meatballs are exactly like the ones in spaghetti o's, but you're paying 6$ for two of them. Their 'Pomodoro Sauce', a "typical red sauce" is essentially a squished tomato and very little of it is given. Servings are rather small for how overpriced they are. The broccoli (listed as this on the menu) is actually broccolini, the brussel sprouts are flavorless, and the pizzas are smaller and less flavorful than a frozen pizza. The alfredo sauce is like if they took a normal amount of sauce for pasta, took a fourth of it and added water to make up for the difference. The mac n' cheese is good in the way that a microwave mac n' cheese is good and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it is. The interior was renovated recently and somehow is less appealing than it was before. It hurts me so badly to make this review, but it hurts my stomach, mouth, and my wallet most of all to eat here. I have had some of the best Italian food I've ever eaten for the same price. I truly believe that anyone with taste buds could make better pasta than this. Please, save your money, eat at home, or go try Roman Cucina or Momo's Pasta instead - I assure you, you won't regret it. read more

I've been to the location off Preston a few different times and it doesn't disappoint. We stopped in for brunch after church and you don't have to wait if at all for a table. It seems to be the right amount of people and service. We got the Caesar salad to split and also the breakfast pizza. Both hit the spot. Out waiter was attentive but not stopping by every minute to check on us. I think it was just the right mix. On top of brunch they have $1 mimosas and $2 bloody Mary's from 11am-3pm. I mean that is something that you can pass up! Definitely a great value as well compared to some places that give you a champagne flute for $5 or $6. But not this place! Also one other tip! They have a whole gluten free menu for those who can't eat gluten. For my sister in law this was a huge plus! All in all we'll be back here again as it's a great place, really good food, laid back, service is spot on, and priced just right! How in the world have I not reviewed this place? I have been here a bajillion times. It's truly fantastic and the brunch is scrumptious and mimosa filled! Weekends are always packed but hit em up after about 1 on Sunday and the crowd starts to thin out. On a nice day the patio is very relaxing. There are a few things they have down to a T. I've had the breakfast pizza, eggs benny, all of the salads. The spinach and goat cheese salad with grilled chicken and candied walnuts is a nice choice! They changed their menu and they messed with the only things I used to like there. The build your own pasta sauce option of olive oil & garlic does not seem to be available. I also used to like this with the grilled shrimp... now they have sauteed shrimp which look and taste boiled (and no seasoning). The other sauce option - the mushroom sauce - does not seem to be there either. The final hurt -- they messed with the pizza. We used to like the fully full round pizza. Now it's a more modern oblong (smaller) pizza, but it's not just the size, I think they messed with the recipe because the crust does not taste the same. Honestly, Penne was never great but I had these 3 favorites which was enough for me to go back. Today I am looking for another place to order from. The latest remodel to the restaurant does look nice. Unfortunately I don't pick my eating places based solely on how nice they look (well at least not after the first time anyway). read more

We recommend sitting at the bar right by the wood-burning fireplace so that you can see everything going on and have some ambiance. The Cabernet wine was really good and the carbonara and lasagna were excellent as were the beef meatballs.
