Not gonna lie, my wife dragged me here and I ended up loving it. Place has a really cool vibe -- well decorated without being over the top. We got the mango cardamom tea, which I was skeptical about but ended up being really good, and the lemon blueberry scones were legitimately excellent. Owner was super friendly and welcoming -- the kind of place where you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

I was so excited to discover this British afternoon tea spot in Connecticut! I got to go try it with my sister who also loves this kind of place. We had a fun time doing the price fix afternoon tea experience. The food was tasty and interesting to try. The tea was great too. Very fun experience and would recommend to others.

What an amazing place. Absolutely loved everything about it and the feeling you get inside is unmatched. There is so much to look at and take in. We got a pot of Yorkshire tea, incredibly delightful. I got the cheddar and chive scone with eggs and ham on top. The scone was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the ham is such a nice touch. I got a pastry to go and it was such a nice treat later in the day. The ladies who run this are absolutely wonderful.

Charming tea room where you can enjoy your tea and/or meal indoors, outdoor, or take it to go. I love trying new foods and this place (for me) had just that. They also offer some gluten free baked goods. I had the gluten free almond bar and it was not only delicious but also spongie while both light and decadent. The decor inside is all things Brit. I was only able to do a quick pit stop but will definitely be back to sit and savor their teas and other items.

And unlike their incredibly high-priced restaurant across the street, al Tavolo, you might actually afford to eat here. The owners have done an admirable creating an environment that's comfortable and low-key without sacrificing their commitment to quality. After all, the phrase "a mano" translates to "by hand," reflecting how the vast majority of items here are made from scratch on site. I come here often for their coffee, which I love for its balance and low acidity compared to Starbucks, etc. But the real star of the show here are the pastries, such as a layered s'more bar the size of a small brick; a variety of gourmet doughnuts (my favorite is the lemon-filled); and "cruffins," a combination of croissant and muffin with a delicious cream filling. My usual go-to are their bagels: slightly crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside. There's also a full sandwich and salad menu with breakfast and lunch options including salads, sandwiches, a quiche of the day, and other specials. Their breakfast egg sandwiches -- seemingly modeled on the now-famous one at Sagaponack General Store in the Hamptons -- are especially popular. While $13 for a basic egg sandwich is a bit ridiculous even for a gourmet one, you'll have little complaint once you have a taste. While you're perusing the menu and pastries, don't forget to check out the well-stocked selection of farm-fresh cheeses and other Arethusa Farm products. And, if you've got room aftewards, don't forget to stop at the Arethusa Farm Dairy Store for some ice cream -- it's also across the street, next to Arethusa al Tavolo. (Disclaimer: I grew up in the area, though I don't know any former or current employees of Arethusa.)

(The Clash) The Canton Main Street Market in Collinsville is one of our favorite Farmer's Markets and we found another reason to love it today when we visited the booth for Brits Brand. They operate a brick and mortar store in Morris, CT selling British baked goods - think scones, homemade breads, millionaires, shortbreads, almond slices, assorted pasties, and more. They will also be at the Canton Market every Sunday through mid-October. I had to look up what exactly a millionaire and pastie were. Now I know that a millionaire is a decadent three level baked goodie with layers of shortbread, caramel and chocolate. Of course we bought one. And I learned that a pastie is British slang for a meat and vegetable pies. Our Shortbread Millionaire was sweet and packed a ton of flavor in that little square In addition to that millionaire we also bought a Cheddar Jalapeno Scone, and that was amazing as well. It had plenty of Jalapeno zip to go with the cornbread-like scone. Not only were there sliced jalopenos sitting on top of the scone but they were also diced and baked into the scone itself. I loved it. The samples we bought were great, the folks at theie kiosk were helpful and charming (I'm a sucker for a British accent!), and the lineup of products is fairly unique. Go do yourself a favor and check them out.

So, when we visited the Dutch Epicure Shop, we had some high expectations. Epicure Shop is a righteous title, because they sell quite a bit of high-end epicure foods -groceries, soups, a huge deli, and a bakery with breads and pastries. They've developed a big reputation for their European pastries, breads, cookies and cakes. Yup, they make everything on the premises. As you walk around their store, you'll see German meats and sausages, Dutch and European cheeses, teas, jams, chocolates from all across Europe, and a selection of Dutch food and Dutch groceries. I was perplexed by the large selection of Indonesian foods here, but when I fired up the old Google Machine for an explanation, I learned that the Dutch ruled Indonesia from 1815 to 1920! Anyway, back to the food. We zeroed in on the bakery choices and picked up three items for $15. Our Blueberry Lemon Scone was pretty large and was topped with a delicate layer of vanilla icing. It tasted more of blueberry than lemon but was super fresh and delicious. The Almond Triangles were sold as a pair for $6. They were fantastic. Hidden between the sliced almond topping and a graham cracker-like crust was a sweet fruit layer that reminded me of apricot jam. These are addictive. The Raspberry Almond Fruit Tart was another layered treat with an almond glazed topping and a thin raspberry jam layer inside the tart. Our bakery treats were excellent and pretty reasonably priced for their home-baked quality.
