I made reservations via email in German before I left - we only wanted to stay 1 night, so we were unable to guarantee between a double room & an apartment, but the price difference was pretty minimal. When we arrived, the daughter who runs the hotel was gone but her mother was around. She speaks some English...enough to do a transaction if necessary, but she noticed that I could speak enough German to get along so we stuck with that. Surprisingly she thought I was French! Anyways, she showed us to our room and then went to find our room key. A few minutes later, she was back with the key and a small English map of Mittenwald. She quickly gave us the 2 minute tour recommendation and some restaurant options for dinner and then left us to explore. We ended up with an apartment, the Schmalzer. It has a double bed, a futon, a shower/WC and a small kitchen (which we did not use since it was only 1 night). It would comfortably sleep four and was very clean! But the best part of the room was the VIEW! The balcony had two chairs and a tiny table, and if I didn't already know how wonderful the rest of Mittenwald was, I probably would have spent the rest of our trip out on that balcony. There's a gorgeous view of the Karwendel and the creek from this 2nd story apartment. A quick 5-10 minute walk into the historic center makes the Edlhuber very convenient for those wanting to explore Mittenwald. After a good night's sleep, we woke up to a very nice breakfast and met the daughter. We sneaked out pretty early as we had a long day planned, but I would have loved to spend the morning on that balcony. 70 euros for the apartment - though if a double room would have been available, it would have been only 64 euros.

After our visit I had to laugh that there has only been one prior review of this restaurant from two years ago. Translate it if you don't read German. My wife and I both agree, the most stunning mountain view from lawn side seating we have experienced in our lives. The food was very good (filled noodles and cordon bleu for our meal) and the prices reasonable. The waitress was most helpful to this non-German speaking couple over 60. A stop I have photographed and will never forget. The pics hardly do this justice. You won't be disappointed stopping by this place on a sunny day, regardless of whether you are in a car or on a motorcycle. I'll be coming back, and I can only hope y'all ignore this recommendation.

It was a memorably wonderful experience. The restaurant was outstanding. It is so much fun to stay in a place with so much history! Another awesome thing is the underground swimming pool. It's like a cavern, incredibly mystical and interesting. I know my informaiton is outdated on this place, but things change slowly in places like this and I doubt it is much different today than it was in 2000. This is a great place to stay for a week of skiing in the Alps, though it is likely beautiful in the summer, too. I will make a point of updating this review soon - we'll visit Grunwalderhof sometime in the next couple of months.

My group of two was put into a room with some much space that we could've slept at least 4 more people in it! It was clean too, which is always my fear walking into a hotel. The dinner we had there was also very tasty, as they serve some incredible local dishes. The bar also stayed open later than normal for us, as we were enjoying our evening there with our group. Breakfast the next morning was also pretty good, as they had plenty of options for everyone and plenty of seating. If you are visiting Innsbruck and want a quiet place to stay a little off the beaten path, this is a great stop. The town is quaint and nice to walk, and the hotel itself is gret!

It's nestled in a part of the Alps, and its city was the host of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) The hotel was extremely clean - probably the cleanest on the whole trip. It was easily a four-star hotel by American standards. The room that my sister and I stayed in was also very large by American standards, and from what I understand about European hotel rooms, that's saying something. The bed was the most comfortable that I have ever slept in - save for one in Gent, Belgium. One sleep at this place, and I have tried to recreate ever since. (Open up the window to allow a cool evening breeze to waft in; snuggle up in a duvet-covered down comforter. Such a thing I'll never forget!) The only reason it doesn't get the extra star is because I found a huge hair ball in my towels one day. It was quite disgusting but was very much the abnormality compared to the rest of my stay here.

The food in the restaurant is surprisingly excellent-- we ate there twice because it was so tasty and affordable! 3. Finally, the spa is spectacular-- with several different rooms of different temperatures, a perfumed shower that makes bird sounds, and various other oddities you can only find in Austrian spas. 4. It's almost equidistant from the two main lifts, and not too far from a third. 5. There are some small restaurants in the surrounding area (10 minutes walking) we would have never discovered if we had not been staying there. Definitely recommend staying here, or at least eating here if you're staying nearby!

In this hotel the swimming pool is smaller than in Alpenpark, but it is indoors and indeed big enough for relaxed swimming. The bar is huge, and I suppose that in winter this must be a very cosy place to be. Just 1 complaint about the room: the shower was too narrow/small. It feels a little claustrophobic. Every diner and breakfast has something for everyone, and between 1 and 4 pm there's a buffet in the bar for the guests. All in all, I think I can safely recommend this "family-hotel-chain" without risking to disappoint anybody. We had a very good time.

Each room has a beautiful balcony that overlooks the Alps in which you can sit and enjoy the day. The owner Karin is absolutely amazing, and you could not ask for a better person to have around to help answer your questions about the area. Karin speaks German, Italian and English fluently which makes this another great reason to stay while traveling. The home itself is situated just outside of the picturesque downtown, and can be walked to in less that 5 minutes. It also offers off street parking in a private gated courtyard. Overall this is an amazing place to stay while visiting The Bavarian Alps, and Mittenwald. If your lolooking for a place to stay I'd stop looking right now and book Haus Schweigart trust me you will be happy you did!
