While I do love traditional, spare, nuanced, traditional nigiri at more 'authentic' sushi bars, I am also not above some good old chaotic fusion sushi with way too many crazy toppings, and Peony does the latter quite well. Its insanely long roll menu includes every possible iteration of tobiko, tempura flakes, eel sauce, mayo, cream cheese, soft shell crab, sriracha, asparagus, etc., and often all at once. They do offer simpler rolls like negihama and salmon skin, and but that wasn't why I was here. I ordered: - Beach Roll: red snapper tempura and spicy tuna rolled in white tuna, avocado, and masago with wasabi sauce - Rock n' Roll: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado, cucumber, rolled in red tobiko and sesame seeds I preferred the Beach Roll slightly (though I'm pretty sure the 'masago' was just tobiko dyed orange) - it had a great crunch, plenty of snapper holding it up, and the wasabi sauce helped me get my spice without soaking it in soy. The Rock n' Roll was great too, but I think when a roll is mainly raw fish, less is more when it comes to combinations. I'd rather a really great piece of yellowtail on its own that having it squished in with three other fish. My fault in the order, though, not Peony's in crafting it, as they crafted it expertly. read more

Fast and excellent customer service, and delicious food. The first time I ordered online through Yelp and there was an issue getting my order to come through. Turns out the woman working sweetly helped with me no issues and informed me that if I ordered directly from them that I could save some money in the future- she promptly "cancelled" my order on the app and reprocessed it for a lesser price in store. Apparently the third party sites charge more for food prices as you are utilizing their service, and I never once thought about that! She saved me a difference of $10 and got my food out very quickly. I recommend this place so much that we ordered from them earlier tonight! read more

This place is a good place to eat your average Asian food. There's nothing that really stands out to me or separates them from any other Asian restaurant. It was pretty empty when we got there but it was before dinner rush and it seems like a majority of customers simply opt for take out. They didn't space out booths so all of the people currently eating in the restaurant were awkwardly close to each other. But there was no obnoxious music which I loved so I felt comfortable. The staff were nice and checked in on us. I got steamed shrimp and rice and it was decent, nothing to write home about but it was filling. Overall this place was neither amazing nor bad. Our 6-person lunch group tried this eatery for Tuesday lunch, not the best day of the week to eat out, much less trying out an eatery, but that was what happened! Although the eatery advertise itself as 'Asian Fusion' it appears as a well decorated Chinese restaurant that serves a verity of Asian dishes. They offer dishes without the 'Spicy' warning warning, and some with. By itself, that can suggest authenticity. Then again, authenticity and fusion doesn't mix. We all decided to order from the lunch menu. In my case, I wasn't enticed enough to suggest our group order from the a la carte menu for a family style meal as we've done before. Two of us ordered Spicy. One ordered extra spicy. All three of us was disappointed at the barely detectable heat. Other than the spicy food lovers' comment on their disappointment, nobody made any positive comment. Doubt if we'd be back. read more

I Yelped across this place by chance when I was wrapping up Christmas shopping in the area. At this time they were only doing take out and they had a great set up for it. After looking through the menu, I ordered two bento boxes for lunch. Everything was ready pretty quickly and I headed home to bring back lunch. I ordered the broccoli beef with the steamed dumpling, spicy tuna roll and fried rice with a cup of hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup was pretty good. I loved the big chunks of mushroom, tofu and bamboo. It could have used a bit more "sour", but other than that, delicious. I also really liked the broccoli beef and the fried rice. I wasn't a fan of the spicy tuna roll or steamed dumpling. My hubby pretty much got the same thing but with the Kung Pao Chicken and brown rice. I was pretty impressed that it was packed full of peanuts. At most places, there's only a few peanuts here and there. This had tons and he loved it. He also really enjoyed the hot and sour soup. Overall, it was good and I would definitely go back and try a few other items. The prices were reasonable and it was a lot of food. It's always a risk ordering food from places that "specialize" in everything but hope springs eternal in trying to find decent Chinese in chapel hill. It really doesn't matter what dish you order because the chinese dishes all have the same orange colored sauce. It's all very sweet and the chicken meat was mostly batter. The sushi is mostly rice and cucumber which given the price, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. The only dish that was decent was the lomein but how hard is it to mess up noodles. First of all, this review is only on what I ordered (duh) so maybe their sushi, which seems to be their 'thing' is much better than what I ordered so yeah. Okay, we got a house fried rice and a vegetarian fried rice. Greasy, no flavor, no eggs (isn't that a staple of fried rice?). We got steamed dumplings. No. They were yuck. Like only one got eaten out of the bowl. Crab Rangoon. You got used to it after you ate a couple but first impression - soggy. Definitely not crispy. Maybe it was an off night? Because I was given the name by someone who gave it high praise. They were mask wearing and mask conscious of the patrons, so yeah for cleanliness! Overall, a nope from me. This place is my salvation when I'm working late. These guys are open until 10:30 when everywhere else closes at 10, which for me is a game changer. We used to come here occasionally for eat-in sushi, which is also good, but it has become my go-to takeout Chinese food. It costs a little more than the typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese place, but the food is SOO much better. The portions for the Chinese takeout are huge, and the quality is well above the Tops New China next door. Their dumplings never disappoint, they are always full and juicy and well-cooked. I also strongly recommend the Singapore curry noodles (two meals in one!). They'll even make egg foo yung for you if that's your thing (it's my guilty pleasure) even though it's not on the menu. All the meats and veggies are fresh, the shrimp are always plump, and it's always well-cooked. The inside is a dark and trendy, pretty basic, quiet little Chinese place. It's new, and very clean, and generally empty-to-half full. The take-out counter is a classy clean granite deal, and everything has a well-kept look to it. We love it, because I'm coming to hate noisy, bustling restaurants when I'm trying to relax over dinner. The sushi is pretty good, but it's excellent value with the BOGO. The menu is filled with what I'm coming to find as standard American sushi fare: plenty of tuna, salmon, shrimp, and crab, plenty of tempura offerings, and everything has an avocado variation. Two 8-piece rolls for $8 (with BOGO) on average is a great deal, and filling. I recommend the spicy yellowtail, eel avocado, crunchy shrimp, and salmon avocado. In short, if you live near here it's a godsend. It's a solid Chinese and sushi place and a great place to have a relaxing quiet dinner. read more

My family of 6 including 4 kids came in on one Sunday evening to dine in. They immediately greeted and seated us. It was really dark with barely any lighting and I didn't like the setting of the takeout area. It's more of a date night spot for sure. The first thing I noticed was how sticky the table was, like unbelievably sticky. They were noticeably clean but hella sticky. Everything we placed up there stuck to it. We came at a good time because no one was here. They also only had one server. We did have to wait a little longer than expected to order an appetizer and they didn't come to pick up our plates after we finished our appetizers. The appetizer ordered were edamame and scallion cakes. My fam enjoyed them both. We actually wish we ordered more because it wasn't enough for all of us. The server slacked for us to be her only table. She didn't really check on us. She was friendly just was a little slower on some things. I had asked for some lemon wedges to add to our water and she only brought back 3, even though we had 6 cups. Before I could ask for more, she had walked back to the other side of the restaurant and sat down in a booth. We ordered six 8-piece rolls. All the rolls were pretty good. We had no complaints on the food. Overall, this place was good. I probably wouldn't come back with my kids though lol. read more
