If you have a dog, hire Peoples. I've had my car detailed before by another service and it was just "Hmm, I guess this is the best anyone can do with dog hair." Then Peoples detailed my car and now it looks brand new. I had a 90-pound husky mix that looked like a small Newfoundland. Lots of long, shaggy fur. We hiked every day and went to the beach every week, so you can imagine the level of sand, dirt, fur, and foxtails. I hadn't even had my car cleaned at all (let alone detailed) in years because what was the point? It would just get dirty again immediately. But last month my beloved dog passed away from old age, so I finally decided to clean the car as a rite of passage. I had called another place first (also with great Yelp reviews) that answered the phone with nothing more than a gruff, "hello" and only accepted cash. I got such a weird vibe from them that I canceled and called Peoples. Peoples is incredibly professional and their prices are even a bit lower than average. NEVER AGAIN! Wet, moldy, mildew, filthy, and smelly. Horrible customer service! ZERO STAR EXPERIENCE! My car was "detailed" by People's Car Wash on November 5. This has been the worst experience and customer service I have ever received from any company I've done business with. After using a Groupon, I paid a total of $271 for their "Complete Detail Interior & Exterior" detail. They originally told me it would take 2 hours to detail, it took 3.5 hours. What I received back was absolutely not acceptable! The car was thoroughly soaked from the shampoo treatment and even though I followed their instructions of keeping the windows open and blasting the heat, the car was still wet two days later when I had to drive it to work. The smell in the car was unbearable. The mold and mildew had set in. As I began to inspect more, the neglect of the detailers at People's Car Wash began to unfold. There was still dog hair all over the floors and back seats. The glove compartment, ceiling, center console, and driving column were UNTOUCHED. The smell from the car being soaked and not vacuum-dried properly was overwhelming. It was so bad that I couldn't even drive the car home from work with the windows down. I spent nearly 4 hours (and nearly $120 in cleaning supplies) after work in a Target parking lot having to deep clean my upholstery, clean out the leftover dog hair, and wipe down the surfaces to clean the dirt off still. My partner emailed People's Car Wash with the photos attached here to ask them if this was acceptable work that they felt proud of. One of their staff members, Marcus Flowers, quickly called back apologizing for the subpar work and asked if we could bring the vehicle back in to be re-detailed. As I no longer trusted Marcus or People's Car Wash, we told him we did not feel comfortable bringing the car back to him after I had already detailed it myself. I simply wanted my $271 back so we could go our separate ways. This is where the horrible customer service came in. After my partner had been playing phone-tag with Marcus for a week and a half. We finally were able to get a hold of Marcus and he had a laundry list of reasons why he could not process a refund for the "work" that was done. He wouldn't even let my partner speak on the phone because he always had something to say. Finally, I took the phone and told Marcus that he could either process the refund, or I would be posting this review. His immediate response was a threat and suggested I "come visit him" so we can handle this like men. Excuse me, but threatening physical harm to your customers because you don't like what they have to say is not an appropriate response. What ensued afterwards was Marcus continued to speak to me in a condescending and belittling tone and still tried to make excuses for why the work was not done as expected. He tried putting the blame on me saying: "Did you know how dirty your car was?" - Yes... that's why I paid you nearly $300 to detail it. After he started threatening me with lawsuits if I posted this review, I ended up hanging up because he was not interested in anything else I had to say. Marcus Flowers and the People's Car Wash stole $271 from a first time customer. The "detail" job they did left my car in worse condition then when I brought it to them in the first place. I am shocked by the service I received from Marcus and People's Car Wash, especially after seeing so many other people's positive reviews. During a recent trip to the Bay Area, my car was in desperate need of a wash. I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and saw that Peoples Car Wash had some great reviews. I visited during a late weekday morning and saw that there was not much of a wait. The prices seemed reasonable, and after getting an estimate of how much time it would take (~1 hour), I decided to give Peoples Car Wash a try. Overall, I thought they did a thorough job. I got the most basic wash service, and both the exterior and interior were well cleaned. There's a small waiting area with seats, and the employees were friendly. LOVED my car wash at People's Car Wash! I purchased a Groupon for the premium interior/exterior wash. The process was easy- I drove in, they accepted my Groupon, and I waited in their outdoor wait area for my car to be cleaned. The was took about 30-40 mins. The wait area has seats 6ft+ a part and masks are required. It's also covered for the warm days. They did a very thorough job- had my car looking like new! I love People's Car Wash! I've been a royal customer ever since they were charging $20 for interior and exterior clean. The folks here are super friendly! They're fast, but they are human and they take their time with your car... it always takes me about 45-1.5hrs here on a weekday morning/ early afternoon. I don't normally mind it as I will bring a book or some work with me and sit in their shaded outdoor seating while I wait. 2/22: they now charge $30 for their basic interior and exterior cleaning. This includes interior and trunk vacuum. This is a great price if you ask me! I would come here as often as every few months and go through a faster exterior only car wash drive through like Kaady every month. The interior stays very clean (Note: I do not have kids or pets and don't take my car into the wild). As my pictures show, they did forget to wipe down one area.... but it's not a big deal- it'll take me 30 seconds to do myself. PRO TIP: Bring your own rag for interior cleaning because even though they wash their rags, it still has that rag smell.... if you know what I mean. read more

I was elated to see a sign for car wash pop-up this weekend, at the gas station on University Ave at MLK. I've only gone to drive thru auto car wash a few times since I bought my car 3 years ago, and have been on the lookout for a hand wash place. I went for a basic exterior wash, which took about 20 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised how thorough these guys were, and how reasonable the price was. I am writing this review as i stand and wait for 2.5 hours for a car wash with an appointment. Honestly no idea how they have so many positive reviews. I had made an appointment via phone as the website was buggy, came over no one had a record of it, asked me to come back in 2 hours, i came back in 2 hours, and they asked for another 10 minutes and it has been another 30 minutes. I am honestly super disappointed and don't even think it's worth your money. Fraud. I booked an appointment for 4 pm on their website to have my car cleaned. I noticed the day of at around 3:30 pm that this place closed at 4 pm, so I immediately called. They told me that they did in fact close at 4 pm, but said if I arrived before 4, I would be able to get it washed that day. So I hurried over and got there 5-10 minutes before close and the gates were closed, so I could not get in. I submitted a dispute through my credit card, since I could not get a hold of anyone on the phone that day once I noticed the gates were closed. A few weeks later, they are fighting it and showing on their website communications, that the wash was "completed" and I had not sent a message through it (and therefore, there was no proof that I did call them or communicate with them). Extremely shady practices and fraud. I will be reporting this with the Better Business Bureau out of principle, as I will not stand for this. I highly recommend you do not use this place to get your car washed. Best of luck. UPDATE after Isa's comment (and message sent to Isa): I spoke to someone 30 minutes before close and showed up before 4 pm (when told to get there before 4 to get my car washed, even though I booked online a 4 pm appointment, which is a malfunction on your system's part). When I arrived and the gates were closed, I called and no one picked up the phone. So I did make attempts to work with you. The burden should not be on the customer to "go after" the service like this, after having to rush down there (20 minute drive from where I live) and then have no one pick up the phone at that time. So I filed a dispute/complaint with my credit card company and your company pushed back showing the transaction was completed and evidence of communication on my part through your online system (when I did call). If you want to keep my $65 that strongly and not do the right thing, then you earned it, but with the cost of my Yelp review (and now subsequent, Better Business Bureau complaint). I do not want your services anymore, but would like a refund, which it seems you are not open to, based on your behavior regarding the credit card dispute. UPDATE after Isa's 2nd comment and response via email: Isa and her business are trying to do the right thing. It appears she will try to refund me. This was not mentioned earlier, but I had used this car wash prior and had a bad customer service experience (albeit a great car wash), so this most recent experience left a really sour taste in my mouth. I think the business has good intentions after all, but it's likely their scheduling system and communications (with multiple employees involved and perhaps not the best documentation) is what led to this snafu. In summary, if the online system and communications improve, and you're willing to wait 2-3 hours for a car wash, then this could be a good solution for you. My car was layered in about a year of dog hair and just dirty in general from never having the car detailed for the 3 years I've had it and what can I say ?! Would've gotten a deal through Groupon, but Groupon deals are by appointment only apparently. Came on a Saturday morning without an appointment, but they took me in right away. I waited for about an hour in the outdoor waiting area, which is a cozy but comfortably spaced corner with a few chairs. My car was absolutely filthy, but they did a great job both inside and outside. There were a few streaks on the windows I noticed over the next few days and some hard water stains on the mirrors, but I'm perhaps being too picky. However, a $70 deluxe interior and exterior wash wherein the outside of the car was only spot-washed and not entirely washed is unacceptable. As you can see from the photos there are whole swaths of the car that didn't get washed at all, and the parts that were washed were done in direct sunlight and left water spots. This is company difficult revue to write. i went to Peoples several times prior to the covid pandemic. They did good work and were respectful people. I called today and discovered that they no longer had their lot but worked out of gas station in Berkeley on the weekends or at the customers home during the work week. So I decided to drop by the gas station today which is a Sunday. Their were two people there -- a man and a woman. The man was very friendly and said he recalled me from the past. The lady was pleasant. The woman worked on the my interior while the man was working on another car. My interior was very dirty but she did an excellent job of cleaning it! The man asked me to drive my car to him after about an hour. Famous last words from me " Please check that the windows are rolled up." After he said he was done, I noticed that the passenger window was slightly cracked and unfortunately half the front passenger seat was wet. He told me that it would dry quickly, so not to worry. He was very casual about it. I should have paid closer attention when he had just handed another customer a floor mat that was soaking wet and told him it would dry quickly-- really, near sun set? I drove to the sunniest place I could find to sit in the sun. After two hours it is not totally dry. I pray I do not get as mildew problem, as another review wrote here. There were also some small tares on the rear window carpet. I told him I was going to let that go, after he said it was already torn and thought I did not notice?!? He felt I was too picky and they had done a good job-- partially true. He also said a relative had died that morning and he was upset and he still had to go to another job so could not spend more time on my car. Perhaps he should have taken the day off? If you go here, come early in the day and bring a hair dryer just in case. They are nice people who do uneven work. read more

A mom and pop shop style business, Peoples Car Wash occupies a deserted gas station. It looks like it's been staffed by the surrounding community-- just honest folks working to make a living. Not sure if it's a co-op much like several establishments in their neighboring city, Berkeley, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. Truthfully, my experience was only worthwhile because: a) I had my kindle & I was really into what I was reading (Origins by Dan Brown-- READ IT). b) I had the day off & wasn't in the rush to be anywhere at a particular time. This was also a Thurs around noon & it didn't look too busy. c) It was cheap af (only $15!!!). *TIP* Don't forget to check in on yelp bc you get 10% off and yes, I'm cheap like that. Now, if you're in a rush, consider someplace else. It took almost an hour for an "express" exterior car wash. That's only one of two reasons why I knocked off a star. The other reason is because even though they take cash, it took them awhile to give me change. It didn't seem as if there was a cash register because the guy who was trying to give me change asked the other workers around him to split my $50 bill. Believe me, this place is bare bones. He had to go across the street to get me change. I didn't mind waiting because like I said, I wasn't in a rush. In that time, I inspected my car and it was squeaky clean except for some dried water spots in the rear window. Other than that, they did a decent job.
