My husband & I stopped here on our way back home. While I understand southern food is meant to be buttery & comforting, this establishment was something else. I rarely leave reviews & I'm a very easy going person when it comes to food... I'm a chef back at home but also have a big guilty pressure for food that's on the greasier/buttery side. When placing a pick-up order, I was told it'd be ready in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, I go in check, food not ready. That's fine. 20 minutes, food not ready. There were a total of 10 people at the restaurant who were already served. My order was as simple as it could get. Three biscuits, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. 35 minutes later, food is finally ready & our order is incorrect. We don't eat pork & all our sandwiches had bacon in them. Utensils were thrown into containers so when opening, they were filled with grease. These by far have been the worst biscuits I've had. So soggy that when picked up they crumbled to pieces. Our hashbrowns were soooo greasy that we had to dab them with several napkins & drain the grease out of the container. I wish they could've at least given us a reason as to why our food was 25 minutes later than what we were told (total of 35 min wait). Despite all, easy going person, I would've waited. I've been a waitress, busgirl, maintenance and eventually now a cook. I know the food industry can be overwhelming but there really was no excuse for the lateness, amount of grease and crumbly "biscuits" they gave us. I cannot say don't come to this place, but if you do be sure to come at your own risk. Personally, I will not be back. My stomach feels like it's consumed three sticks of butter and unfortunately none of it used for biscuits. read more

This place always seems to be relatively empty, so we'd never tried it before. The outside is so bland that it's almost hard to spot - which actually may be the reason for it not getting much business. By comparison, somewhat unimpressive places near by like Andy's are jam packed. Thanks to Yelp however, we learned about this place and decided to finally give it a try. So glad we did!!! Inside it's much more interesting than the exterior...somewhat of a theme restaurant, although I'm not totally sure what...nostalgia, old timey, or just country? Anyway, there was plenty of seating and the waitress was very prompt to take our orders. The meals were excellent with good portion sizes and were an overall good value for the price. The waitress was new, but was super nice. Overall, this is one of the better country cooking restaurants we've tried (and we've tried countless). Of course it's not perfect. Cook time was on the slow side, and country music playing on the PA was a bit odd (haven't heard that in a business in over a decade). Well, maybe the theme is country, so whatever...it was at a volume low enough to where you could tune it out. And finally, take note this is one of those cash only places. We've learned the hard way lately to always have cash when Yelp dining. Those cautions aside, I'd say check this place out if you want home cooking! read more

The Place The People's Choice is located at 230 W Broadway in Newport, Tn. Classic little diner with some booths and tables. Like many small businesses cash is the only means of paying the bill. People forget credit card transactions cost the business 4% - 6% so actually you are saving money paying by with cash as well. Don't let the humble surroundings deter you... this is a made from scratch kind of place. The Menu/Food The menu covers the breakfast basics. Eggs your way with choice of Bacon, Sausage, Bologna, Country Ham, Ribeye Steak, or Tenderloin. Pancakes, French Toast, Grits, Oatmeal and toast as well. Sides of hashbrowns or Homefries with Onions, Peppers, Cheese, Tomatoes. We choose an order of 2 Eggs over easy with Sausage, biscuits and gravy. Along with an order of 2 Eggs scrambled, hash browns, biscuits and gravy. Our breakfast was very good. The gravy was obviously made from scratch and very good. The Service/Value/Experience Our service was good. Our waitress was hustling the whole time we were there. Breakfast was a very good value. It was a fun small diner experience. A friend and I stopped and ate at the People's Choice Restaurant in Newport. It was a decent meal but the waitress got the order wrong, I ordered water and she served me Sweet Tea. Not only that but at the end of the meal the waitress said we owed $32.00 plus change and I said there was no way that the meals were that expensive. The waitress waited for us to pay and when she realized we were not going to pay that amount she then said she had made a mistake and had charged us for three meals. It could have been a mistake on her part but I seriously doubt it! It is more than doubtful that I will eat at the People's Choice Restaurant ever again! read more

They didn't have half of what we wanted to order. When we did order, we ordered to go and found out after we got home that half of what we ordered wasn't there. My husband was told that they don't give out receipts (We paid cash. That's all they'll accept.) so we don't even have a way to prove whether or not we paid for what we didn't get. A quick google search brought us here. Wish we would have just hit mc Donald's. Service: It was not busy, the waitress still seemed rushed and not very friendly. We asked what they were known for, what was good. Her response was "people order everything" (not helpful) I was offered a coffee warm up twice, although the coffee in the pot wasn't really hot either. Food: the food was terrible overall. The teens ordered a 2 egg cheese and ham omelet for $7 it was two eggs with lunch meat ham and a piece of American cheese on top. Husband ordered biscuits and gravy. Being from Michigan it is always exciting to get south and have some gravy. THIS gravy was such a disappointment, it tasted like flour and water, no seasoning and not cooked long enough. My husband couldn't even choke it all down. I ordered the French toast and a biscuit to share with the toddlers. The French toast was fine, nothing special, tasted like I made quick at home with white bread for a quick breakfast before school, not worth $6 for 3 pieces of bread. Restaurant appearance: decorated with vintage decor with a heathly serving of grease and dust covering it. The bathroom was dark and covered in magazine pages, ok concept I suppose but impossible to clean so I can't imagine the germs!! As an adult this wouldn't bother me but as a moth of a toddler that tries to touch EVERYTHING it really grossed me out Overall: sub par service, bad food, too expensive for what you get, dirty feeling. read more

We went on Google to find a nice little restaurant have a late lunch/early dinner & saw positive reviews. We DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant. The older waitress was the daughter of the owner whom waited on us. Owner was cooking. She was not friendly or helpful in selections. We think she feels like working there is punishment. She never smiled or showed any appreciation for any customer while we were there. We ordered hamburgers. Even though one was 4 oz.s & one was 6 oz.s it was the same size. Very very greasy. We ordered fried pickles & the batter was soft inside not fully cooked, extremely greasy not drained & batter fell off. If you want ranch to dip the pickles in it cost extra .50. We ordered a large fry & those were actually good. The grease was fresh & not as greasy as the other items because those were obviously drained. Sweet tea was perfect & nice slice of fresh lemon that was appreciated. Waitress never brought us a ticket. Cash only restaurant & posted on front door. That was appreciated as well. Understandable & no problem there. NO TOILET TISSUE ANYWHERE for ladies restroom & toilet clogged from paper towel put in it. Floor was filthy in restroom. Men's restroom was ok. Waitress never said thank you. Come back. Nothing. They were not busy. Seems they'd want return business. IF they could get a personable waitress & try to drain grease from foods it might be better tasting. They charge a $1.69 to take a refill drink with you. I told her no I'd drink it there at table & she only gave a 1/2 glass refill. If a customer orders a drink while eating the refill should be free to take with you. It is like charging for a box or bag to take food you can not eat. Stingy on napkins & no silver wear to eat fries with. It is decorated really cute nostalgic Betty Boop Decor. The prices were reasonable is probably why locals support her business. We think this little restaurant has tremendous potential but an angry unhappy waitress will ruin the experience & customers will not return. Very good location. so far most of the restaurants have been pretty crappy, and very inconsistent in the area, well this place turned out to be awesome! we have driven by numerous times, and my wife saw the sign and commented that this place had a dumb name for a restaurant so we never went to try it. a few weeks ago i had to get a $70 key made for our new car and the service writer at a morristown dealer recommended this place, boy did he steer me right! i ordered the ribeye steak sandwich, and the old lady got a cheeseburger. it was AWESOME! everything was cooked to perfection, and the crinkle cut fries were golden goodness.there was absolutely no grizzle in my meat, and the ol' lady's burger was so good. i also got a caramel flavored shake and it to was totally dope. the decor in the place was nifty, they had a country theme going with betty boop stuff all over and what looked to be a reclaimed barn wood floor stained and finished to look great. i cant wait to come back and try their chuckwagon, the server recommended it. prices were reasonable, and the menu had breakfast items too. so if your passing through our town visiting the smokys, i highly recommend stopping by, they are located in front of some strip mall stores, so plenty of parking if your in an rv, not sure how property owners would feel about semis though. side note, bring cash because for some reason they dont take cards. in 2016, i think thats crazy, who carrys cash ?, but living here for a few months ive discovered they are about 20 years behind on things like this,(id love to see the expressions if i tried to use android pay around here,lol) so i always keep 100 bucks in my wallet. read more
