I have always relied on this Pep Boys location for my car needs, but I no longer live on this side of town and it's not convenient at all. We were out for a drive on a rainy day when we discovered one of the headlights was out on our Mazda CX-7. I wasn't far from the auto mall so I stop by the dealer, where I was advised it would be a 3 to 3 1/2 hour wait. The rain stopped, so I didn't need the headlights anymore... but I was planning on being out for the evening and lighting would be mandatory. I decided to drive to my old favorite pep boys, and I was not disappointed!!! Instead of the 3 1/2 hour wait at the dealer, I took a 45 minute ride and walked into the pep boys on speedway, where Ken immediately offered to help. He looked up the correct part number for my headlight and suggested we go outside to my car. I pop the hood and Ken felt confident he could change the bulb right there---and did so in a flash!! On the walk back into the shop I mentioned that my key fob had stopped working and I had been told at the dealer it would require replacement. Can suggested it might just need a simple battery change and that he'd be happy to try it for me---and that was all it took!!! I have a feeling that pep boys saved me hundreds of dollars today as compared to what these items and the associated labor would have cost me at the dealer... and Ken really gave the impression that it was his pleasure to make my day! Somethings don't change, I guess-- Pep Boys is fantastic!!! read more

It's Sunday and I had the joy of getting a screw in my tire. Unfortunately for me, Pep Boys is the only place open. It took them 30 minutes to figure out what they could do. The tire was off the car because I am driving on my doughnut and the guy who was either the service manager or repair salesman didn't care about my little $20 tire repair and kept ignoring me for bigger repair ticket clients . There was a guy who was getting a tire replaced and he dropped what he was doing with the guy to help the lady and up sell the fuck out of her. I'VE NEVER HAD CUSTOMER SERVICE THIS BAD AT A REPAIR SHOP. GO TO ANOTHER LOCATION OR ANOTHER SHOP. read more

Just had an terrific experience there. The brakes went out in my car while driving near this Pepboys. I wheeled in and somehow expected to get my car back the next day. Parts needed replacing and when they called to let me know they needed to keep my car a few days, I was extremely stressed and upset. The gentleman named Lance who called with the news stayed amazingly calm even though I probably sounded like I was in crisis mode. He assured me he would stick with me and do his best to help. He called a car rental company, and I heard him make a case for me to get a low rate to rent a car for a few days. I got an extremely low rate and a two tier upgrade on that rental. Just hearing him make a case for me really feel like he was genuinely trying to help. I have a general distrust of auto mechanic chains because it's been grilled in my head that they are always "out to get you". I have to say after this experience, I feel so differently about this Pepboys on Speedway. I got regular updates, and my bill ended up being almost $200 less than their original estimate. Every person there seemed like it was their personal goal to help me. :) I would actually recommend this place to a friend. read more

If you are a woman, I would not recommend setting foot in this business. I am disgusted and horrified by what happened to me and my mother today. We went in for a battery replacement that took a total of 3 hours to complete. The minute my mother stepped out of the car an older man named "Lance Paradise" asked her if she is a model or a flight attendant. He was literally breathing down her neck and would not stop making inappropriate comments or gestures toward her body. He actually began touching her arms and hair, and throughout our service would not stop "checking in" with our very capable mechanic, and continuing to hover over us. At one point my mother went to look for a restroom. We asked a man at the back counter where it was, and he literally CUPPED HIS HANDS AND HELD THEM OUT as if to say "right here!" She was mortified and disgusted. The entire experience took 3 hours, as Lance continued to interrupt, drag us in and out of the office (as he accidentally deleted all of our information), then asked for my mother's phone number so he could "text her about a car part". We began to complain about the wait, to which Lance replied "welcome to Pep Boys", then snapped at me for "not being a happier person". Between the long wait and the blatant sexual harassment, we were definitely not "happy customers". The silver lining was our mechanic Maurice, who QUICKLY installed the battery once Lance had left for lunch, and seemed more knowledgable than any other staff member we had spoken to that day. 5 stars for Maurice. I wrote a review prior to this about buying tires from this location and was getting over charged and now this one . I had my rack and pinion changed out on my Infiniti and was told that all I had to do was realign vehicle after I pick it up from dealership and since I paid for a one year free alignment from pep boys I told dealership I would just take it to pep boys to get it realigned instead of paying 150 for it again ...so I took it to speedway location and the mechanic drove it in parking lot and walked up to me and said he cannot do it and that he needs to drop it and it would be at least 400 for that and that a piece in the steering wheel was broken because it was installed wrong and that that would be another 250 min that's 650 total plus tax so I took it back to dealership and told them what pep boys told me and they assured me it was installed correct and that I was getting taken for a ride so I took it to another location on 6th Avenue and they said that their was no issues and that they would get it aligned within a hour and that's exactly what happend plus it didn't cost me a penny ...these guys at speedway location are something else and I feel if at all possible will take someone for a ride who doesn't know any better ........sad ...sad ....sad read more

I made an appointment at this locations- when I got there it was like I had never called, the line was totally backed up behind me and the guy at the counter wasn't even giving me the time of day. Had to leave my car overnight and wait until 12 the next day to pick it up. No apology or even acknowledgment of my time wasted. Two stars, only because they are open two hours later than most other shops. I am a night owl, and mechanics seem to not want my business. However, despite the '30 minute oil change" sign in the front of the store, I have to wait 15 minutes to find out they cannot change my oil in next 1.75 hours. Only one man on duty. Why? Lots of folks looking for work. Last year, I had some cooling system issues. They quoted an insane price. I had all the work done by an independent mechanic plus a timing belt replacement! for $700 less than just the cooling system work quoted by the boys. The mechanic also loaned me a car for the night. If I ran a shop, I would open at 5pm, when people get off work. I'd have the car ready to drive the next morning, before work,. You know, customer service. Most auto shops are very difficult to access for the working class, and folks on my schedule. Pep boys is open later, but what good is it if I plan my day to go there and they refuse service because they are understaffed? I was already prepared to pay a premium for the late hours. I run a mail order business. I advertise a thirty day handling time. I average less than half. I try for a five day turnaround, but it's not always possible. I am one person, not a corporation. I tell my customers it will probably be longer than they would like, and then I try to do better. This store takes the opposite approach, and I find it sickening. read more

I made an appointment for 11:00 a.m. for an oil change for my 2006 automobile. When I made the appointment online at 6 a.m. it was wide open for appointments! The guy at the desk was nice and I told him I was 'trying your shop instead of Fletcher's this time.' After the check-in a service guy came up and said 'we won't get to your car for an hour!' I said 'then what is the point about making an appointment?' No answer. Someone was picking me up for lunch anyway and I asked the initial guy 'so what do you think, like an hour and a half?' And he said 'yes.' After 1 hour 45 minutes we drove by and my car was being worked on. So we drove around another 15 minutes and it was out of the open shop. When I went into the store, they THEN told me there were 2 little lights out. I said 'I really don't want to wait any longer!' Why didn't they CALL ME and ask if I wanted those lights fixed? In asking again, 'why bother to make an appointment if you aren't going to honor it?' The guy had no answer other than 'well, your car was next. At any rate, this won't be where I'll take my car in the future. Fletcher's is fine, they honor appointments. read more

Man oh man these guys are something else. I bought a car from a company that uses them as an authorized dealer for repairs and warranty. My fiance called them and asked them about getting the car in and they completely denied that they do work under warranty without payment. I called them and again explained the same thing and they then admitted that they do honor that with out upfront payment. I then asked to see if they could just hook it up and see what the code was that it was throwing to make sure it would be good to drive until we can get in for a full appointment. They said they could not since an employee had a "death in the family" and they where busy. That is funny cause they told my fiance that they where just booked and that they do appointment only, no short staff comment. I asked just to run the code which would take all but 60 seconds, and they still refused. I called another shop that was under the same program and he told me he could do the code anytime to make sure it was safe, and then come in to fix whatever the issue is. I hate it when yelp reviews say this, but stay away from this shop! If this is the customer service you get before even spending money, I can only imagine how bad it gets once they have you on the hook for a few hundred bucks!!! After reading other reviews it is a common thing to say that they are "booked" or that they only have one mechanic on staff. Again, STAY AWAY!! read more

Paid over $1000 dollars to have the alternator replaced 2 weeks ago, along with a new battery and battery terminals.. I had been using a portable jumpstart for several weeks before bringing it here. It only took a couple days to fix and I was so happy when I was able to start my car without having to jump it. Well it died again bout 2 days later, started back up no further issues, so we just let it go. We took a trip to Mexico last night and it died before we even got out of customs, one of the customs officer had to jump it for us, the car died again on the interstate and we had to have our car pushed to the gas station near by.Car will now not start at all, no lights nothing... It was after midnight so pepboys was closed, tried calling their "free tow" service they offer only to be told we were not covered, even though we paid for the warranty...The car is still sitting at the gas station, waiting for Pepboys to open, will change my review if they make this right and fix it. read more

My check engine light came on and my son told me that Pep Boys did free inspections. I spoke to an older man there at the Speedway location who told me that the inspection was "useless". Yes, he used the word useless twice. And he was quite happy to send me away with no inspection. My opinion is that the employee was just as "useless" as the free inspection that doesn't seem to really exist. Don't waste your time. read more

Last week during our down pour of rain my wiper blades were so shot I thought they were going to scratch my windshield. I pulled into Pep Boys and was immediately greeted by Nelson, one of the store managers. He looked up the info on my Honda then asked if I would like him to install the blades. Of course I would like that, it's raining and I don't care to get wet! He had to mess around a bit with the clip and after a few minutes got it handled. He was soaked but didn't say a peep. He then told me to bring our other car in because it too needed new blades. So I did just that, got the other car and back to the shop. I was greeted by Tony C. who was just as charming as Nelson, and 10 minutes later I was out of there. I was pleasantly surprised how professional, friendly, and efficient these guys were at 8 in the morning! read more

My tire was losing air, so I drove into the nearest Pep Boys while the PSI was racing down to zero. Within 15 minutes, they diagnosed my tire with a tear from a screw. Since they were not able to fix this tear with a simple plug, they installed my spare tire, free of charge. Upstanding customer service from both Tony and Robert! read more

The third party shipped tires to separate Pep Boys stores, though I sent a request for the two going to the wrong location to be sent to the store near my home where the other two tires arrived. We had a family emergency and we were driving through from Phoenix and needed new tires we got there 10 minutes before closing and they stayed an hour in a half after closing to install all 4 tires...I know it can be frustrating to have to stay after your shift is over since I also work retail. I really appreciate them taking the time to do the install. what a scam - i was on a driving trip from san francisco, and developed a small divot in one tire....probably was nothing, but i always worry about sidewall injuries and i was far from home so i thought i better replace the tire. not being familiar with any used tire shops in the area, i went to the pep boys to see if they had a cheap new tire. the guy there said they had one for around $80, which was more than i wanted to spend but i said ok....he then noticed i had an 'all wheel drive' car, and said, that he would recommend replacing all 4 tires. whatever - just one please. then he refused to replace the one tire, saying it was unsafe, and they all needed replacing!!! WHAT A SCAM !!! luckily, after driving a couple blocks, i found a used tire place & for $25 installed got a perfect fit.... sorry manny, moe & jack, you are not going to rip me off..... read more

My gf's car was making noises similar to the sound of a bearing going out so I took it into this pep boys as they were nearby. Sat afternoon, they got me in fairly quick and confirmed the bearing failing. They set me up for first thing Sunday morning and said it was a half hour job. My gf had an appt at 11 so we figured worst case this would give them 1 1/2 hours for problems. We get in at 9 and they get the car quickly into the bay. My gf is apprehensive about mechanics but I reassure her. Little did I know that she was right. An hour into our wait they were still doing something and no one was coming in to tell us anything. I had to go find someone to find out what was taking so long. Finally they tell me they had a problem getting the old part off but that it should be going back together shortly. A half hour later and coming up in the time we have to leave for the appt, and they still arent done. I get short and tell them we have to leave at 10:45 for this appt and to finish my gfs car. They put a second guy on to finish it and hand us the keys at 10:55. This would still be a 2 maybe 3 star review had the next part not happened. As im backing out if the parking space i hear a grinding noise. I head out onto the street and sure enough its the car grinding worse than before. We quickly pull back into the parking lot and head back inside. I have to stand waiting for several minutes before i get their attention and tell them its worse now. I also tell them that I need a courtesy car or one of them needs to take my gf to her appt or we lose $350 deposit. Thank fully one of the guys stepped up and took her while I dealt with the car. Again.... it could have been a 2 star review at this point. But it took me 20 mintues or so to get the on duty manager to talk to me. They kept saying he was busy with a customer. I was furious. Eventually he talks to me and tells me he is trying to fix it and that they put the wrong part on. Best part is that they cant order a replacement because its Sunday. So now to their credit to some degree they are trying to use the old hub and out in new bearings. But as I write this review im still waiting and starving and my gf is stranded at the appt location. So no courtesy car. No offers to help with a rental car. No offers of reimbursement yet and no appoligies for wasting half my day and ruining my plans for the weekend by being incompetent and not ordering the right parts, not communicating with me and so far not making any steps to make it right besides what I would expect of someone simply trying to get rid if the loud annoying customer in the waiting area. These guys are the biggest ripoff in town. I brought in my truck for an estimate on brake work, and while I know that can be tricky, Juan gave me an estimate of $1200 to replace pads and rotors and work on the master cylinder. He said I would have to sign a waiver to even drive my truck out of the parking lot, which I was anxious to do as I knew Juan had "seen me coming" in the metaphorical sense as a blonde woman who he assumes doesn't know a gasket from a brake arm. After signing my cautionary waiver, I headed to Firestone where all of the aforementioned work was done as well as a brake light connected in my camper for $500. A $700 difference is scary. Don't be taken in. Get other estimates and realize that charging for unnecessary work is big business in this town. read more

Terrible....first we went to a different location and they had the tire we needed, but it was their last one and they refused to sell it to us because "it was needed for reserve" but we could "order it and it would arrive by that night"....which makes no sense to me, because that means you can have another one in a matter of a few hours. Anyways we then went to this location and it took just shy of 3 HOURS to change 2 tires...because they persuaded us to replace both front tires instead of just the damaged one. I dont know if they just don't have anybody working or what, but 3 hours to change 2 tires is ridiculous in any tire shop especially when you're the only person in the waiting room. read more

I recently had a diagnostic run on my vehicle. They gave me package total of $157.10 for coolant flush, Freon check, air filter replacement including fees for recycling refrigerant and retrofit. A week later when I called about the service- the guy in parts/labor I think he said his name is Craig or Greg-(difficult to understand on the phone) said they did not have a coolant package. I told him that I had it on paper and quoted the price PEP Boys gave me. He checked for a few more mins. but said he could not find a package. I am taking coupons elsewhere along with paperwork to see if other mechanic will price match. What a hassle. We live in a desert and need AC.! read more

Awful, awful service. Walked in the store and they acted as if I didn't exist. I told them I needed a tire fixed and the man at the desk said "hold on" while he proceeded to ask a guy who was walking in the door if he needed help! The mechanic finally came out to tell me that they were going to fix the tire from the outside because they couldn't get it off of the rim. I said that was fine. 20 minutes later the same rude man from the desk came to tell me that it couldn't be fixed and I would have to buy a new tire! I will not be coming back! Horrible! Went in to have my air conditioner fixed. First visit they told me it would take 2 hours. I was there for 6! I was told to come in the next day and it would take about 4 hours to fix. After 4 hours they had someone drive me home. The third day, they still had my car and it took them another 5 hours to fix it. The air never worked correctly, I went back and told them and they said that since I had a 1998 car that my air would not be as cool in 100 degree weather, it just couldn't keep up. I just had my car looked at again today at another pep boys ( only because I have a warranty on the parts. I was told that the piece was connected wrong!!!! So, not only did I go a year without air in 110 degree heat, they didn't even do it correctly!! Now, I have to pay MORE labor charges @ $116/hr to get it fixed again. This place is a rip off. Never again, Pep Boys, never again. No one in my family or friend circle will come to your business. I don't understand how you stay in business. It certainly isn't your service department. read more

Very trustworthy service. Good folks. Brought it in for some unusual noise, and they caught a major safety issue with my brakes. Fixed it same-day, and provided military discounts, among others. I went to get an oil change and they told me that I needed new struts on the front of my car, even though I was having no problems. Just the struts and the labor they wanted nearly $1200. After that $1200, they recommended I buy 4 new tires (they were pushing more expensive tires) and get a $175 alignment. By adding on the tires and the alignment, the total would have been near $2000. I would have gone into credit card debt with this expense. I then compared with 6 other mechanics and all told me between $500 and $800, so I went in to one of these mechanics and he tested my car and told me I didn't need struts and that my tires were fine. The Pepboys on Speedway are con artists. It's amazing they get business. read more

Went in just to get my brakes done, as I heard squeaking. Turns out I had cracked rotors. But LANCE by far best employee there. He walked me through the process, pricing, everything. I didn't feel cheated or scammed, they genuinely cared. Granite they had few employees and tend to get over-crowded/busy easily. So if you don't mind waiting they're not bad service. read more

Terrible place. Brought car in for brakes, made a horrible noise took back in sold us new tires back brakes, now another 500.00 worth of work. Never made a noise until had brakes put on. Got my seats dirty. Highly recommend you don't go here. People are nice but that's sbout it. Feel very ripped off. read more
