SCAM ARTIST ALERT! FRAUD! They misled me, and now they're harassing. I'm referring their auto repair shop to the DMV and taking them to the court!! I scheduled an appointment to get a quote on a number of things and planned to get an oil change if I had them do the work. I was told they would call me with an estimate before they did ANY work. When they called with an estimate that was almost $3,000-a complete rip off by any standard. I told them immediately not to do any work and went to pick up my car. When I arrived, they told me they went ahead and did the oil change and billed me for it even though they were told not to do any work. They then also told me I was being billed close to $100 for an estimate, and I was not told it would cost me anything to get an estimate. It felt like they were trying to bow just find any way to get money out of me. When I told them I didn't approve the oil change, they immediately took it off the bill. When I told them I wasn't told the estimate would cost anything, they talked to the manager and then gave me back my key and car and said "I was good to go." The next day, they started calling me repeatedly asking about the bill and sending me text messages with links to the bill, which now again includes the price of the unapproved oil change, as well as the estimate I was not told I'd have to pay for. read more

I had made a reservation and ordered tires a week ago to replace (4) tires. When I got there, they confirmed the tires were ready and asked me to come to pick up my car in 2 hours. When I went back to pick it up, they were waiting for the tires to arrive. I was able to pick it up in another 2-3 hours. I had to waste the whole afternoon. They should have called me at least to let me know the delay. There was a promotion going on, "buy four tires and get one free!" However, they charged for all four tires. On top of that, one of the tires was installed reversed inside out. Now I have to go there again to reinstall. So frustrated. Later, I found that the recipe/document showed that they recommended replacing brakes, and I refused it, which never happened. I don't know if I can trust their services and skills. read more

I made an appointment this weekend to bring my car in today at 11am for a diagnostic light repair. I already knew the repair that was needed as it was a sensor. My vehicle was dropped off at 11am on time and hours had elapse without any update on the status of my car or call back, for something that would take at most a technician 15 minutes to confirm and advise on next steps. However at 2:52pm I started to call the shop to get an update. Numerous calls made from 2:52pm until 3:23pm. I called from multiple devices and was continually hung up on, the phone was not answered, or the one time I got through to someone they placed me on hold for about 15 minutes and at which point I hung up and decided I would make the commute to the store in person to get an update. When I get to the store the care wasn't even looked at and the "supervisor" advises its because there was work being done in the parking lot. The type of professionalism that I was met with from this PEP boys location today are simply unacceptable. I do not feel that what the customers are asking are unrealistic, don't offer appointment slots if you can not honor them within the hour of the appointment, have staff answer the phone reliably, and have staff communicate to customers if there is going to be a significant delay on the service. These are all factors that impact brick and mortar businesses and customer loyalty. read more

Long story short: Had a screw in a tire with a slow leak. Did not discover it until busy Saturday morning prior to leaving on a short road trip. Immediately rolled into this Pep Boys hoping for a quick patch. I had my entire family (wife, two small kids) with me. Shop was busy with typical weekend traffic. Store manager Kendall was excellent. Had to wait for about 1.5 hours but all things considered, could have been way worse. Also, historically have had good and bad experiences here in the past going back 4-5 years. But based on what occurred last weekend, I'll definitely be back for basic car maintenance needs. Left there a very satisfied customer. read more

I had Pep Boys experience when I lived in Philadelphia...generally, a good chain store to take your car to for "while-you-wait" or "drop-off" budget maintenance. What kind? Tires..Oil changes... Filters...Brakes...Tune-Ups, Inspections. Make an appointment on the web!!! The Service Managers are generally mellow and try hard for customer satisfaction. Not easy in Queens, so give them credit. Be nice and you will be treated in kind. People who want something for nothing or expect miracles for cars that are poorly maintained will be disappointed, as usual. . It's been a long wait, but I am pleased to have The Boys open a location in Woodside / Sunnyside. The need was there...always busy. They do care about job quality...there are surveillance cameras in the service bays to monitor the Technicians, increase safety and prevent disputes. They generally do very good work, and regular promotions on the website. Area and Regional Managers will iron out issues, but only to a limited extent. The only minor caveats are that there can be long waits, sometimes, your steering wheel and seat might have black smudges on them a busy day. Oh...parking lot is small and busy. Many service packages have "Good-Better-Best" tiers. My tip is to buy "Better" once than "Good" twice, especially in brakes, rims and tires that are driven in NYC. read more

I needed four new tires in a hurry, and after doing a bit of research, found the Pep Boys near me had the best prices for the tires that my car needed. I called, got an immediate appointment, and brought my car there. The staff and mechanics were both professional and personable, and I was extremely pleased. I came here on Sunday for our battery to be replaced and needed an inspection. They were so helpful and accommodating. We failed the inspection because of the new battery, and they kept us in the loop of why and how to recalibrate our car computer to pass it. I came back today (Tuesday) and even though they're busy they happily took me in for the check. This location has excellent customer service and I will be coming back again next year! read more

I made an appointment for 9am, I waited till about 11am and was done with my car. If I would've arrived earlier and beat the two ppl in front of me I would of left even earlier.. Point is, if you need work done to your car. Set your self an appointment and show up before your appointment or on time. The man behind the counter Chris was very nice and helpful. The mechanic that worked on my car was great also. He called me over & showed me the parts he changed and made sure everything was working well before I drove off. In response to mechanic Scott Meyers, who, as I was on my way out, yelled at me saying "let me know where you can find a 3 dollar spark plug." Go to www.amazon.com, search for "spark plugs" and you'll find spark plugs from 1.98-9.98. Mr. Meyers, you might have shrugged when I told you that. I could see you were upset when I wouldnt have you work on my vechical, maybe that's why you yelled, maybe you were having a bad day, I know I was, but I didn't take it out on people. Bewear..customer service is awesome. .they make you feel like a king. But you will be surprised of what I got to say. Oil change. ..they never changed my oil filter. I ask for full synthetic oil..I got regular oil...I didn't know until I went for my next oil change. They never rotated my tires and I paid for it. Plus I needed a plug in my tire cause I was leaking air. Which they did fine. Total cost $110.00 YUP. RIP OFF.. Found out full synthetic oil change with filter and they fill your other fluids with tax is no more then $75.and that is either castro edge synthetic or mobile 1 synthetic. And you can see everything they do. This was at castro oil change /car wash. Oh and free car was with oil change. I will never go back to pep boys. read more

I took my car here to get tires balanced - which I quickly learned is an in-bound lead for them to up sell you on additional work. Pep Boys mechanics work on commission and are incentivized to grow the scope of each job. I do not recommend them or this location and hope this public review brings light to this corrupt corporation. I was told I needed a tire alignment. I did not. They put my front tires on the wrong sides after they took them off to balance. I waited 90 minutes for my first appointment, drove away, came back cause the car was pulling and waited another 90 minutes for them to then simply up sell me. After all that, the car still pulls. I am unsure if they even aligned the car whatsoever. read more

Went for their Summer Prep package service this morning. Dropped off the car and was impressed immediately. I was initially wanting a higher priced service, but the person at the counter was answering whatever questions I had, enabling me to decide to go for the summer package. The car was supposed to be picked up in a hour, but picked it up 3 hours later, personally I prepped for this before, this is something prevalent no only at this pep boys but everywhere, even outside NY. I got a call though after an hour telling me about my tires, the person was courteous and polite, and when I explained that I would change it in a couple of months, didnt force me or scare me with anything. But heres the best part. Went picked up the car and I thought my bill would be around $32.00 since the package was $29.99 plus tax, I paid $13.Why you ask? The person at the counter activated and gave me a pepboys rewards card, which enabled me to use discount right away. Totally wasn't expecting that and was truly impressed, especially after reading the 1-star comments. I dont know if I was lucky, or the people below with the poor rating caught them at a bad day, I will definitely come back here for future car services. Finally, just remember guys, the people working here work hard and like every job in life things are stressful everywhere. I know as customers we expect that we treated courteously and promptly, but sometimes when we do it to people doing service to us before they do it, it goes a long way. Have been here a few times. Always quality service, never pushy about up selling. Someone a long wait if you just roll in but they are always very CLEAR about it so no surprises. I would recommend it for oil changes as MUCH cheaper than a place like Jiffy Lube. Friendly people. The police towed our family's car before a parade (oops), cracking the splash plate underneath the engine. Not wanting to drive and drag the plate all over town, I took it to this Pep Boys in a panic. The mechanics took it right in, despite a backup of other jobs/cars, and they tied it down at my request after explaining what they saw under the engine -- then the service writer charged us nothing. This location has always provided me with decent service and communication. However, the last two times I've been there ALL CUSTOMER-FACING WORKERS were wearing their masks either below their nose or chin, or not at all. We have a pandemic raging through our community and mask laws have been in place for months. The shop has lots of signage about maximum people in-store, social distancing and mask-wearing. Yet the workers disregard the most basic protocol for keeping their customers safe. Nothing says "I don't care about people" more than ignoring public health laws. read more

I had an estimate from Costco which was a little bit less than what Pepboys had it for but the guy at the front desk, Matt, took care of me and told me about a promotion they were having!!! I was really relieved so I decided to do it there. I also got an alignment. Service was great, the guy Matt was attentive and very professional yet friendly. AVOID! AVIOD! AVIOD! I went to this place for a light bulb change on my gear box. I waited over an hour for the work to be done. When they were done, I was given my keys. Once I got into the car and check what they had done, I REALIZED that my Shift stick accessory that attached to the gear shift was BROKEN! I saw this and I tried to go back right after, but they were already closing. So, the next morning I go and report the problem and looked at me like I was crazy! He offered to buy a new piece , but guess WHAT?! That piece is NOT SOLD ALONE! You need to buy a new gear box or stick! Which costs like $300. The "manager" called Eric, didn't apologize for the mistake that was done instead gave me an attitude saying " what do you want to do"? Or want me to do?" He even said he didn't work or broke the piece nor his mechanic!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!! So I asked who did it? And he didn't want to tell me! I asked for a refund and it was given! Went there to change Ignition coil for my 2000 Acura TL, 10th May 15, Sunday. Ignition Coil which I bought from their next door neighbor AutoTraders. They come up with a hilarious quote to change 6 Ignition coil. $543 , the first sentence came out of my mouth, What the Heck, you guys are smoking out here. Do you know what Ignition Coil is? I really don't know what the heck they are smoking there. To replace ignition coil the labor fee was for 4.2 HOURS .... 0.7 hrs to remove on .. It only has one 2x2 screw to remove for each. So, to remove a screw they will take 0.7 hrs. What the heck. Seriously if there was a button not to rate. I would . They are a complete bunch of idiots who things they can quote any number and the customer will pay for it. Sole purpose of the business is to serve customer and build a healthy relationship which last a long time. Not something, based on Fraud and cheating people. FYI it takes 10mins to change 6 ignition coil. Brought car in for an oil change. Made an online appt for 11AM and called to see if I could get an earlier appt, they said they will try to squeeze me in if they can. I pulled up at 10:20AM was greeted right away by one of the employees, they got me in at 10:50AM. Nicole in the front greeted me politely and professionally. Used $21.99 standard oil change coupon. Was able to watch through the window as they made the change. They also filled up my wiper fluid without my having to ask. Do Not Go Here Pep Boys in Sunnyside claim things are broken when their not and will charge you for not fixing it. They claim my brake lights were broken when I went there to fix something else. Then they stuff my windshield spray line under the fender to create pressure so no windsheild fliud would spray and try to charge me to fix that also. Just had my brakes, an oil change, and a few other things done with my car at Pepboys. I cannot compliment them enough. With great ease I dropped my car off after work yesterday and it was ready by 10:30 today! My car is foreign and a make that is no longer in production... So it is not always easy to get parts. From the minute I walked in and spoke to the gentleman in the shop behind the desk in the service area I was treated with courtesy and great professionalism. came here for an impromptu battery change. Man is the entrance a weird place to get into! Talk about very cramped quarters, with cars parked, cars trying to get out, cars confused as to where to go so they simply idle and wait! Luckily I found a space right away and my dad went inside to talk to someone. We had no appointment, were just a walk-in. A guy came out with my dad, and I gave him my key, he gave us a time frame and then we were off to grab a late lunch while they did their work. Took an hour and some change, that's it. It was in the middle of the week, and the late afternoon. When we returned, we went inside to pay and the guy asked some questions about the car, how long I've had it, talked about how well maintained it was since he had either been doing the battery change himself or in the vicinity (i was happy, considering it's a 99 Integra and I'm trying to keep it going for as long as possible!). The young guy was nice, and we chatted briefly about how cold it was. It was a big difference from the other Pep Boys I used to go to when I lived in NJ -- they were gruff, blank faces, no energy or personality at all. Definitely more expensive than a garage, around $120 or more, but it was winter time, ice blocks everywhere, cold, and we just wanted to get it done and over with. read more
