The place did fill up fast around 1130am with almost every table taken. The food was good! I've eaten at pepper lunch in many different countries so it's nice to see it made its way to Oahu. They have special sides and desserts which were nice. I gave the onion rings a try. Parking is available in the shopping center but during lunch hours it can get a bit busy. Heard about this place but wanted to avoid the hype and the crowd. I remember when there was a line to get into this place not too long ago. Now that the hype is done had to check this place out. We arrived at 4:30 p.m. and of course it wasn't that busy missing the dinner rush on a Friday night. The restaurant is located A couple doors down From Ruby Tuesdays and Baskins & Robbins. The restaurant is not very big it is of course air conditioned and it has wooden chairs and tables (pic) I would guess it could probably seat around 40 to 50 people inside. It even has an in-house bathroom which was pretty clean. The protocol to order and sit is different. You can either find your seat and reserve it by having another person sit while you order or "kapu" it by leaving something on it. You then have to order through the kiosk and then assign a numbered electronic indicator. I Tell you the kind of messed up thing was on completing your order they have it set at 15% 18% 20% tip or custom and this is while you are ordering on your own through a kiosk yikes!! . Once you complete your order you put your indicator on the table and when your order is ready the staff will bring it out to you. The staff two girls and a young guy were super cool and I thought the customer service was awesome and they were friendly. The menu consisted of rice bowls consisting of beef or salmon etc and they even have premium Meats which is a lot more and they had some curries as well (Pic menu). They also had a beef kimchee bowl but wasnt sure how hot the kimchee was so didnt want to chance it... I not korean so played it safe and went with the combo beef salmon bowl $20 The food comes out on a sizzling platter and you mix the raw beef and it cooks on the sizzling plate with rice and corn and you eat it that way. A somewhat different dining experience. The menu items start at $16 and up depending on what you order. The portions was okay not too big not too small. They also had a sweet sauce and garlic sauce to add to your meal and I added a lot but in my opinion the meal was still on the bland side it needed alot more flavor!. I've heard lots of good things about pepper lunch in the mainland and on island, so I was looking forward to trying it when it came to Honolulu. It's a bit inconvenient way for me but since they had a bogo free promotion I thought it was the best time to try it! As someone who cooks casually at home, I did think it tasted good but it is an easy thing to make and probably cheaper to do so. Also, for both the bowls we got, we had cartilage, which was weird to me because it was thinly sliced beef. To end on a more positive note, I thought their brown sauce was very delicious and the workers there were very diligent. I saw the wait staff, management, and kitchen working very hard and as fast as they could, as it was very busy. Pepper Lunch has been open since December of 2025 in the Moanalua Shopping Center on Valkenburgh Street. A Tokyo-based fast-casual restaurant chain. I finally decided to make my initial visit as they just recently began offering takeaway. Pepper Lunch sells its concept as a DIY teppanyaki experience; but I'm a single-guy and convenience is more of a priority. So, I missed having still raw meat / seafood on a 500 degree farenheit electric plate served to your plate, but walked in a little early at the 1130p pickup time and got my meal already bagged sitting on the front counter. I have to say my Jumbo Beef Pepper with egg ( an addition ) was delicious if underwhelming in presentation. The beef is certified Angus and served with garlic butter and corn. There is a lot of pepper mixed in...as one might expect. Normally, you would order on a touch display at the front counter. Perhaps another day. They were busy on this Wednesday lunch rush. They are open from 1030a till 900p everyday. Lots of stalls in the Moanalua Shopping Center but it also gets busy during oeak hours. We went their first time since opening. We were there on their opening day not knowing a new Resturant grand opening, the queue was very long towards Ruby Tuesday...we were going to eat at Ruby. It took us awhile eating at your eatery. It was very good and one Oder hood enough for two of us. Customer service all not great e crept the young gentleman there. I got through the menu quite quickly since I knew how to order from being there there first time. It's the same time as the first time. Quite crowded but we got to get a table. Two times twice crowded. I don't mind waiting for good food. Once seated and ordered the food comes out pretty quick. Everything was served on a sizling platter so it actually cooks while you're beginning to eat. You need to flip the meat and shrimp to cook both sides. There was a lot of shrimp but not so much meat. I thought it would be the other way around with more beef. I got to mix my egg with my rice and corn. I added their garlic shoyu to it and it was delicious. The beef was nice and tender like shabu shabu. The shrimp was good but was looking for butter. Maybe I should have asked but I used the garlic shoyu and I was good to go. I like their garlic shoyu. I have had Pepper Lunch in California, and I was impressed, so I needed to give this spot a try. As soon as you walk in, there are too many tables that serve no purpose. You have to walk to the counter to place your order on a giant screen. There are two screens. If the line does get backed up, the unlucky people sitting on the tables in the middle aisle will have someone's elbow on their table. They should move the larger tables to the back and remove the tables in the middle. The setup is terrible. The workers are very friendly and helpful. That saved this visit. You stand it line and wait for the server to tell you which is your table and you head straight to the self-serve kiosk. Once you order, you pay and sit at your table with a number. They quickly bring you your food. I've been to other Pepper Lunches and this one is small. However, they are fast and you get to eat shortly after. Currently, there is no take out available. Avoid parties of more than 4 if you can. The table layout accommodates 2-4 people and they have to push tables together to seat 5. The food is on the expensive side. It comes to you on a hot skillet and you essentially cook the food yourself. If you're not one to like this style of restaurant, this might not be the place for you. Still give it a try. The food quality is great. It's definitely not 5 star angus wagyu, but the experience and taste is great. You can customize each entree with a lot of add ons, including egg, mushrooms, garlic, cheese, etc. The staff is super friendly. Just knowing that you can create your own sizzle is a fun concept first of all knowing that you're getting something hot and crafted all by you. Yup and you order using the provided kiosk is easy you start with what base of rice or pasta with what type of protein which I choose beef and pasta and that's what comes with it all the pics you see are add one and that's where it can add up depending on what you'd like as I chose to add mushrooms and cheese and at $2.29 each I stopped there. You then pay and it won't take long for your order to arrive which was quite impressive and the sizzle itself was much more grand as it did go on for quite some time before it settles giving you enough time to capture that perfect pic but what I do love about it is the crust it gives as it sits in the hot skillet. I did get the Beef Aglio Olio Pasta which was yummy and the sauce came on the side making its grand entrance with the pour making it a fun interactive experience that I do see many do enjoy as well. You're paying for everything little thing, so to me, $2 for an egg or cheese is a little much. The service was good, you can tell they're doing their best to get people through. We got the chicken and beef pepper rice $19.99, salmon and beef pepper rice $19.99 with egg $2.49, sweet potato wedges $5.99 and a Tractor Strawberry Dragonfruit drink $3.99. You order your own food at the kiosk. They do not take cash. I love how the bowls came out sizzling with the ingredients inside. You can mix it and watch it cook. Either the manager or owner stopped by and gave us a tip about how to cook the food. He told us that there is butter inside of the rice, to push down and flatten that first. Then, mix in the proteins and sauce. I flattened out the rice and just let it brown for a bit, while I was mixing the proteins. When it had a bit of that crispy rice crust I mixed in the egg. Then, I added the sauces. They have two sauces: sweet brown and garlic soy. They were both good. I just mixed the two. The garlic soy was way more on the salty side. There was still a pretty long line around noon on a thursday but it moved quickly and our party of 6 was seated within around 10 mins. I got the basic beef pepper rice and added an egg to it. I think the taste was pretty good, I liked the crispy rice from the sizzling pan and the meat got nicely charred. There were a couple different sauces at the table which helped because the meat on its own doesn't have a lot of flavor. I think the portion sizes were disappointing for the price, my meal was around $18.50 after adding the egg and it was mostly rice with a pretty small portion of beef. You order the food, and it comes served uncooked on a hot plate, so you mix it around and wait for it to cook in front of you.
