Though the staff are all friendly and smiling, the waitstaff have no idea about customer service. This was demonstrated on three separate dining experiences. I won't bore you with the details. Notwithstanding, as I said the food was actually fairly good..... thus three stars rating, instead of two.

Decor a bit dated but clean and bathroom very good with normal and rain shower heads. Our room rate gave us breakfast and access to the executive lounge. In the lounge there was all day tea/coffee, incredible afternoon tea with 3 tier cake stand of goodies and drinks from 5pm also with 3 tier snacks/canapés. I think we got half the room rate back from those things alone. Very friendly staff. Recommend

I was a little…read morebummed because I tried to book a room through Expedia on my phone (advertised for $136/night) but had issues with my Internet connection. Front desk was unable to honor that price quote (paid $155/night) but the staff person was otherwise very friendly and helpful with getting us checked in. He let us look at 2 rooms so we could see what size was right for us and even bumped another booking to a different room so that we could have a room further back from the street. The rooms are very large. We got a standard room and it had a super king bed and a single bed, the spa bath tub, a table and 2 chairs and plenty of kitchen stuff (plates, fridge, cooktop, microwave and sink). We also looked at the one bedroom suite - it was enormous and on 2 levels. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again. We walked around the square and had dinner at an Irish pub about a block from here. This place is across the street from a mall and there are several eating establishments within a very short walking distance.

The room was small but very charming. Bathroom was efficient. Hostess provided instant coffee / tea / hot chocolate in the room as well as fresh bread for toast and chocolates. Room had a lovely view of the adjacent winery. We enjoyed our time there, heated floor and blanket in the bed was a nice cozy surprise !

They even have teasmaids and TVs! If I had one quibble it's that the lights in the bathroom are on a timer and go out after a few minutes - usually just as you're trying to get the soap out of your eyes. The bar on the ground floor is great and they do backpacker specials like a BBQ once a week which are great value. Failing that, there's a cracking Chinese a few doors up ;)

We stopped by en route from Cape Palliser and had an unexpected adventure down Onoke Spit, but not without a cup of tea first. Food looked good, but it was the wrong time for us although we did share an overly sweet brownie. The singe server seemed a little stressed when we walked in (only 2 other tables seated) so not sure what it would be like during a busy period, but when we visited, the quietness of the hotel matched the scenery outdoors, calm, tranquil, at ease with itself.

Its only a 5 minute walk to the water front where there are a ton of shops, restaurants and running trails. Walking into the hotel is like, well... the name... a museum. Incredible artwork grace the exterior walls of the building as well as every inch of the lobby. My room was comfy and decorated with more art pieces and floor to ceiling mirrors on most of the walls. Only complaint is the shower head had very little water pressure making showering a little difficult. I highly recommend the hotel for the experience and location.
