Yelp says they close at 2:30 on Friday. I called ahead and they said they close at 6:30 PM. When we arrived, there is a sign that says sometime they close Friday at 2:30 PM... so my suggestion is to call ahead on a Friday lol. we did and arrived at 3:30 PM. Stopping here on the way to Reno for a burger and fries. Not a lot of options in Hawthorne to get a burger. This place looks cute. They have a few outdoor tables. With check-in, you get a free drink. What we ordered: Sprite French fries Patriot burger Berger looked just like it did on yelp. The fries were good if not a little overcooked. The burger was fine also. Locally owned and operated, I've grew fond of this business on my week spent in Hawthorne for work. They have the best/simple burgers and their cheesesteak is out of this world. Everything is made to order and I've savored every bite and calorie I've had here. My last night there; my coworker and I had the phillys! Service was great every visit and the food! The pros were that the guy taking our order custom made one of their menu items to accommodate my husband's grain free diet. He got the Philly cheese steak without the bread and he said it was good. Cons were that my jalapeño cheese burger was cold. It would have been delicious if it weren't literally cool/ room temp. Not really sure what happened there, but it was a disappointment as we were hungry. Fries were good but could have used more salt( my opinion) We were thankful for the outside seating as it was a beautiful day. I would recommend trying it out but just ask them to make sure your food is hot when you get it. read more

Really good place nothing bad to say it's a small business own restaurant that's very Americana it represents Hawthorne very well. Not their fault but like anything else in this economy it can be pretty expensive. Drinks: - N/A Food: - The Onion Rings & Fries were good. The onion to batter ratio was acceptable. I typically don't like onion rings that are all batter with a tiny transparent slice of onion. This place does it right. I'd prefer a little more onion but it's good as is - The E.T. Burger is a super solid pick. I really liked the double stacked patty and I was happy that the patties weren't dry. I think this burger is served with their in house "alien" sauce which sounded a little sus to me at first but I'm all for it now. It's a textbook execution of a double cheese burger with a twist. Ambience: - The bathroom behind the stand is very clean - There's a small covered area with seating outside - All the extraterrestrial related décor was fun to look at Overall: My partner and I randomly found this place during a road trip and I'm very glad we decided to stop here. Not only does the place have so much personality but the food is really good. I was not expecting to find this gem in the middle of nowhere. Every time I'm in Hawthorne and can grab lunch I have made a mental note to stop by and grab lunch whether it's a sit down lunch or grab and go. I think this is one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I've had, so this has been my go to the past three times of being in the area. It's fully packed and always got off the fryer. I also tried the peanut butter shake this time which was tasty. I loved the large Christmas inflatables which made me wonder what Halloween time looked liked. Thanks to my yelp checkin I even scored a free fountain drink. Definitely a great food spot! read more

Worst food ever. Being gluten free, I ordered the burger with grilled onions and Swiss cheese and no bun. I took three bites, offered the patty to my dog, and even he wouldn't touch it. I put it in the garbage. My husband ordered fish and chips. It arrived over cooked and tasteless. He took only two bites, and threw it in the garbage. Twenty-five dollars totally wasted. It is supposedly fresh food, but it simply was not very appetizing, nor was it appealing. The cashier was pleasant, but the little device he gave us was dirty and muggy. Picked up dinner here last night. No indoor seating, the business appears to be housed in a recycled shipping container! Very extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches, Mexican dishes, etc. We opted for two burritos. Took about 20 minutes for our order to be prepared - they seemed to get busy just when we arrived. Anyway, not "fast" food, but they let you know that up front that everything is cooked to order. By Chile Verde burrito was excellent, lots of big chunks of pork and the verde sauce was super flavorful. Love to stop here for lunch as they have pleasant outdoor seating. Stopped here on our Vegas to Reno road trip. You roll up and it's a trailer where you order and sit outside. Don't let it throw you. The seats are in the shade. The bathrooms are super clean and the food is legit. When you order something with wasabi, be ready for nose running, eye watering goodness. We had a wasabi chicken sandwich, a wasabi cheesesteaks, loaded fries and onion rings. All excellent. Get the onion rings.l for sure. You'll thank me. read more

I discovered Pepper's Place by checking Yelp for somewhere to eat on our recent road trip. I am so glad that I did! We will definitely be returning when we go through the next time. I enjoyed the Mushroom Philly. I describe it as... if a Mushroom Swiss Burger married a Philly Cheesesteak and they had a baby... It is a Philly Steak with grilled onions and mushrooms covered with Swiss cheese on a hoagie bun. So yummy! Hubby had the E.T. Burger which is a double patty hamburger with their special Alien Sauce, spices, wing sauce, nacho cheese, bacon, and veggies. We shared orders of Onion Rings and Alien Fries. The fries are topped with their "crazy twangy sauce", bacon, and nacho cheese sauce. They were both super tasty and I recommend. This used to be a food truck and now they have a permanent location that is like a single-wide trailer. We ate at their outside seating area that consists of several tables and some shade. read more

Over the last 2-3 weeks, Gayle and I have found ourselves in Hawthorne in time for Lunch. My experience with long drives is that it's important to stop a bit, take a bio-break, enjoy a sit down meal, skip the drips while eating and driving. That leaves one key consideration - wait staff or counter service? Pepper's Place is a great place to stop on a road trip. The place has a food truck vibe, but with a larger trailer kitchen facility, convenient walk up and delivery windows, clean rest rooms, a comfortable coverable outdoor seating area, and well placed garbage cans for meal and car waste. The only odd thing about Pepper's Place is their days of operation - Monday through Thursday. Maybe this is a COVID-related re-opening transition? Gayle ordered a "burger bowl" which was basically a custom request that didn't involve a bun. I had a bacon cheeseburger and a side of fries to share. She ordered water, while I went for a lime-aid. The food was hot, fresh, and excellent, although the somewhat tart lime-aid took a little getting used to. The folks on the other side of the order/delivery glass were friendly, helpful, and flexible with special requests and offering alternatives to things they were out of. And that is just one of many reasons that we'll be back the next time we're passing through - the Frings. :) read more

I am going to just say it. That was the best burger I've had in I don't know how long. Having only been back in Hawthorne a few days we had to try Pepper's burgers at least once. We are glad we did. Those are burgers! The onion rings were amazing. AND the lady who took our order was friendly and had a great sense of humor . We'll be back. Though-We'll probably call in the order rather than battling the flies eating outside, but that's what happens eating outside. Even that was worth these burgers. It's the first time we've paid $30 for a burger meal that was actually worth it!! I didn't think to get pictures but will do so next time. There will be a next time. We were in a road trip from Vegas to Tahoe and found this little gem. We didn't want some basic fast food place. This is a mom and pop owned restaurant with good food cooked to order. The owner said they are know for their burgers and homemade sauces. We got the Patriot Burger and BBQ Chicken sandwich. Both were fantastic, fresh and yummy. The sauces were delicious. It was not good. I ha d a pastrami burger and the UFO's which are basically loaded onion rings, cheese, bacon and a special sauce. The burger was just ok, pastrami tasted funky so I removed it. The onion rings I paid 10 bucks for were gross. About 6 onion rings in the bottom of a large styrofoam box with canned nacho cheese sauce on them which made them a soggy mess, no bacon and what seemed to be a couple dashes of Tabasco. Not good.
