Of course, a bar is available (of course!) but tee-totallers who enjoy a game of pool are sure to be entertained with over 20 tables available to punters. Unfortunately, as with most pool halls I've encountered (a lot of them that have been Rileys, in fact) it does seem a bit dark and dingy in there - and, given the nature of the place, it does attract large groups of males. I've never encountered trouble in there but a couple of times have received looks off the kind of naughty boys mommy warned me not to play with. Still, people generally keep themselves to themselves and the bar staff are friendly - reasonable pint prices too, so a more than decent way to kill an hour or two when the city's more visceral thrills don't appeal.

There was a complete mixture of people in there, as you can imagine at 4am in the morning. But random none the less, we had a few games of pool, a couple of drinks and had a really good time. I won't pretend and say that I'm a regular pool player as I'm not. In fact, I'd probably go as far as saying that the only time I'm any good is by fluke. The pool tables seemed good condition but again, I'm not a pro! Even though it was very early in the morning, the staff were all chirpy and seemed happy to have such a lively crowd in!

The atmosphere is lively and upbeat with a jukebox, several TV's all showing different channels and a real mixture of people in the place (Our group consisted of some old fuddy duddies like me and some well behaved kids!). The pool tables are in excellent condition and after we finished with ours, the guy behind the bar came out and cleaned it, I don't think I've ever seen that happen anywhere else! There are some other activities that we did't get time to try like Snooker and Darts and there are also some quiz machines and even Jenga if that appeals to you. We found the prices to be reasonable and managed to get a pool table for the entire evening for around £16. Slim Jims caters for a mixture of modern and old world tastes and I'll make sure I visit again next time I'm in the UK!

The match tables are even better and this is all shown with the vast numbers of people they have play there. The staff are friendly, prices are reasonable and always very enjoyable. They are open to ridiculous hours on some days, 6am or something, the tables are pretty good here and it's not too expensive, there are a ton of offers for this place though, you tend to get them in freshers week. A tip for the non freshers is definitely to pop along to freshers fair in second and third year just to grab some of the offers there! The food here is ok, an important thing to remember is you can add on extra burgers for £1 which is definitely worth doing seeing as a burger and chips costs £5 or so. They have a bar here as well, so you can pretty much stay here fed and watered for as long as you like, they offer an option to buy a table for a day which can save money if you don't have much to do and get a few mates in!

By the time 'The Circle of Life' had finished I was ready to end mine. The breakfast was cold and the plate was chipped and smeared with grease, my extra portion of black pudding looked like a brain tumor. The yolk in my egg was yellow like the poor old souls' teeth that sat adjacent to me. The décor was dirty brown, and tanned by nicotine from the time we could smoke in pubs. It wasn't the food though, I was here at 9am and the patrons were drinking in full force. If ever you want to give up alcohol because you have a problem or for health reasons, then instead of the 12 steps I would recommend spending a mornings hour in The Goose. The depths of human depravity that can be seen here are quite inspiring. If you have given up on love, life and music then The Goose is perfect for you.

On weekend nights women with bodies from Baywatch and faces from Crimewatch stand out the front smoking Mayfair cigarettes in their supermarket clothes. Men fresh out of prison are welcomed back to society with a round of pound-shop priced drinks. Does The Goose have any redeeming features? The prices of the food and the drinks are staggeringly low-priced but the quality of the food ain't great. You get what you pay for, so the old adage goes. I've no doubt that The Goose fulfills a role the community and it's where some call home, but I wouldn't even wait at the bus stop out side it.

It's normally quite busy without ever being packed and is significantly cheaper than other less-well furnished snooker clubs around the area. They charge per amount played so you dont have to worry about ticking over on to the next hour and the drinks and snacks are very reasonably priced. There is sufficient parking although because it's near traffic lights it can be difficult to get on to the front because of the queues.
