My husband called and set up an appointment for my 2016 Challenger to have a part replaced. We arrived only to find out that the part had not been ordered and it would take at least 2 days to even get the part. Apparently, we needed to pay for the part before he could even order it, something that was NOT explained when the appointment was set up. Took our car in to have our air conditioning fixed. It was fixed and we were charged $634. We took a trip to Leavenworth the next day and our air conditioning worked great. However we used it several days after that and it didn't work. We brought it back to Performance Prep and they said our compressor was broken and it would cost approximately $1,000 to fix it! We've checked with other repair companies and they quoted a price of around $200-$300. Not a big deal to fix....certainly not $1,000, especially after having spent over $600 already. These people are great. Fantastic. And above all honest. Both my cars have over 200,000 miles on them. But for minimal cost, Ward and his staff have kept both going strong. Im a dog lover as are they. I bring small treats to their golden doodles every time i go there. Sometimes just to say hello. The owner has grabbed a wrench and come out to the parking strip to work on my 2000explorer. They take the quality of their work, and customer relations very seriously. These Guys will rip you off! I was having leaking into the chamber of my pistons. I asked these guys to fix the seals on the top end of the motor. I'm assume oil was seeping through the valve seals. Rubber Gromets that needed to be replaced. Instead they gave me some excuse its normal and did some minor fluffing up of the motor and charged me over $1000 like they rebuilt it, but they didn't! If I don't run my car everyday it puts out blue smoke on first start up. That tells me there is still oil seeping into the piston chamber. They did not replace any of the valve seals like i wanted. Took my classic car in for a diagnostic and was told it would be $180. $350 later, I was told what was supposedly wrong with my car and asked for an estimate. They had my car for a week. When I called to ask, I was told by the owner worst-case $9 -$10k. No estimate given an estimate entails parts and labor breakdown not just a price! I asked if I could look at the car when the engine was torn apart and he stated this isn't a tourist facility. I picked up my car the very next day. I wouldn't trust this company and gave one star because I had to. otherwise, it would have been no stars. read more

Went here in hopes for quality service and prices since they are triple AAA approved- left here extremely disappointed and do not recommend this shop to anyone. I requested a FULL diagnostics which I paid $150 for and didn't get a full diagnostics review- only the things I knew were already wrong with the car. I could've got it somewhere else for free. Not only did they not do a full diagnostics on my car, they were dishonest with the diagnostics! I took my car to two different mechanics after them and both of them proved Performance Prep wrong. GREAT!. I been taking my cars there for years. my 2000 exploder with 268,000+ miles just got back. it had bad front wheel bearings, leaking differential seals , and a couple other problems. its old , parts are hard to come by. but they got the parts in and had it done ahead of scheduled completion date. to my surprise. the final cost was under the estimate. these people are FANTASTIC ! not only that. when i bought a super duty F-350. they did it again. ahead of schedule, and under budget. and im a dog lover. they have a couple of the friendliest goldendoodles i always have to give lots of attention to. in the ten plus years they been working on my vehicles. no regrets of any kind. read more

I found my new local mechanic and I am so happy about that. Looking for a mechanic is never fun, not only do you typically have to deal with people who treat you like you are an idiot cause you don't know about cars, then you have to deal with a list of repairs that sometimes aren't really things that have to be fixed. Usually I have my husband take care of all of that cause he is the car guy, but this time I had to take care of the mechanic stuff myself as I needed an thorough pre purchase inspection done and was on a tight timeline. Upon stepping into performance prep I was immediately welcomed by the very kind Boonee. She was super helpful and made sure to listen and note all of my concerns. Her husband (yes this is a family joint) then took my car to the back and worked on it while Boonee and I talked and I hung out with the dogs. Within an hour and a half my car was back up with a short list of concerns written in an easily understandable way and a way that was backed up with the codes (my husband verified them). Thanks to their review I was able to get the dealership I purchased the car from to take care of the issues they addressed and my car is all the better for it. While I hope nothing goes wrong with my car any time in the near future, it is good to know that I am in good hands with performance prep! read more

Will not do business with this company again. Extremely miss-leading. My reason for contacting them was because I had heard this company excelled in working on navigation systems. The scheduler said they have a very-qualified person who can do the job. They didn't. I was planning on them doing the work on the nav. system to do quite a bit of other repairs(maintenance). I decided to not let them do anything to the Explorer after being told to take it to a Ford garage. WTH! If I wanted to waste time & gas bringing & picking the Explorer up to have them not doing the repair, this is the place to go read more

I had my cadi stolen form my Excursion, I called this shop to see when they could get me in. To my surprise, Boonee told me I could have the tow truck company drop it off in the AM the next day! My husband had called a few places and was told dates that were between 7 days to 2 weeks before drop off. The communication about parts needed and time line was flawless. Boonee spoke to the insurance company and kept them in the loop. The entire process was great. Staff is very friendly, I would highly recommend them. read more

I've been a P/Prep customer now for about 20 years. It's a great shop, excellent mechanics and good family run business. The only thing that's changed in the past few years is they take cash only, sure you can use your CC, but they then add on the 5% bank fee. The other thing that's changed is the nickel and dime on the repair bill, thats NOT on the repair quote. For example they charge now for shipping on parts ordered for my car, (most companies ship for free on high end material) but they now pass it on to the customer..... They never show the invoice for that part, which, if I'm getting charged, I think I have the right to view it. They also add on for component core charge. Now the business gets the credit for the core charge, not the customer. They say they will credit the customer back but I've yet to see it. Will this stop me from doing business with them? No. But their billing is frustrating and they need to do a much better job of talking with the customer with open and honest dialogue. Especially with people who are not car people. read more

Twice now, my husband has been asked, when HE contacted Performance at the end of the day, to leave his vehicle until the next day, because they 'didn't get to it'. Both times he had an appointment with Performance, & had to reschedule his own work appointments for the vehicle appointment. We understand things can take longer than expected, but their scheduling is inaccurate & they admittedly knew well before the day's end, they weren't going to get to it. So they should have contacted him, as soon as they realized. Neither time did they call. read more

5 star service & you can count on your vehicle to be fixed right and for a fair price. Have had two different cars in for service over the last 3 years and they have always been the best. Can only go 4 stars because of the hours. Wish they were open until 6 and the entrance is a bit difficult because of the busy frontage. read more

Too Stubborn to Sell---- My 1994 Camaro Z28 has been to over 6 auto repair shops and specialty mechanics for over 10 years in the 20 years I've owned it. It was recommended I take it to Performance Prep and within 3 days they found a ($50) relay, and air conditioning compressor needing replacing and the car runs perfect now. Took my car in and was told he'd have to take it out for the alignment. I wan't comfortable with that but he said he knew the guy well and all would be ok. My car is a muscle car-a 69 camaro z28-and very powerful so having just anyone drive it is not a good idea. We walked the car and discussed that it was straight and good. When I went to pick it up it had a big dent right behind the drivers door! The owner just literally smiled at me and said "you must have overlooked that"...basically told me to pound sand and then said, "your cars not that great anyway." Hostile owner. Read the former review from a person he yelled at before. This is the worst encounter I have ever had with a business owner. I had an appointment to have my water pump replaced. I drove my car the few miles to the shop knowing it would overheat soon. A truck was blocking the driveway and they moved so I could pull in. I was instructed to pull down the driveway and park behind an orange Camaro. A man came out the shop very aggressive and hostile. I had my hood up and as going to add water. He said "didn't you read the sign?!" "Customers can't work on their cars here". I said I'm only adding water and I'll move. "shut the hood and move it now!" he bellowed. I turned around and was driving out. He followed me down the driveway and started yelling again about my hood not being latched. He again said you need to read the sign!. I assure you I wasn't reading signs I was was trying to get my car there before it overheated. At this time the very pleasant lady at the front desk came out. I asked her if the hostile guy was her husband/ owner. She said yes it's my husband who is the owner. She was very kind and respectful. She said" I'll take care of this". I told her I was cancelling my appointment and would go somewhere else. I'm not saying these guys don't do good work. However if there were any problems with the work then I felt like I had just the trailer to the movie that would played if problems arouse. This encounter was kind of surreal and unbelievable. I'm not a lightweight and can handle difficulties with people but this was so out of left field. read more

I brought my old beater truck in for some work on the dashboard, no fuel gauge, no speedo/odometer and no dash lights. After a week I received a report on a Friday concerning my engine and some problems there with no mention at all of the repairs I brought it in for. I panicked a bit and considered going no further with the restoration of the truck. I asked how much I owed for what had been done to that point and was told $150 approx. I decided to go ahead and have the dash looked at and estimated. I was given an estimate of $850 and although I thought that the price was quite high I went ahead and approved the repair. Another week went by and I received a call that my truck was ready for pick up. The fuel gauge had been replaced, my dash lights were simply reconnected and operational and my speedometer cable replaced. $851.39 total. Initially I was taken aback at how dim the dashlights were but I thought as long as I know how much fuel I have and my speedo works I'll be ok. Then I realized that the chrome nut and washer from my air cleaner were gone and had been replaced with a cheap stamped metal butterfly nut. The dash bezel had not been re-installed properly and only three of the five fasteners were in place. One week later my speedo in no longer operational, I let Ward (the owner) know of my dilemma and he said he would "make it right" but only the speedo cable when I mentioned the dim lights he immediately started splitting hairs about my request and stated that "I never asked him to make them brighter". When I mentioned the chrome nut and washer and improperly reassembled dash I received no response, just some mumbling. As the conversation continued and I asked more questions Ward just began repeating himself "Bring it in and we'll make it right". Performance Prep is only willing to do the bare minimum at more than premium prices, they do not go the extra mile as I was told. I've decided NOT to return with my vehicle to Performance Prep or give Ward a chance to make it right. I was charged $178 for a $40 fuel gauge and nearly $60 for a $15 speedo cable not including the labor and without my vehicle for 11 business days. If I can't get what I want for nearly $1000 why would I think Ward and Performance Prep will make it right for free!?! Too expensive and too casual with other peoples' time, property and money. read more

Went there with my husband about a year ago to repair a small crack in the frame near the gear box. I had been there once before. While my husband was dropping off his car, the owner told him that he thought I was "a spoiled brat" because my car was paid for in full. (Mind you, I paid for my car in full. Both of my cars, actually. Me. I paid for them. Not sure how that makes me spoiled or why he thought he could have an opinion like that.) Within two days after taking it there, our steering fluid began leaking everywhere. Feeling suspicious, we called another state certified mechanic who told us that this sort of leak is common when the gear box is not removed during welding near the site. We took it back up to Performance Prep and asked them to assess it because we believed there was an accident during our first repair. We were very kind and cordial- not accusatory at all. We really did believe there had just been an accident. They argued with us incessantly about the damage for a few days via phone. The man who did the repairs at one point apologetically said "Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I don't know how we managed to do that." When we took it up to get the leak fixed, the owner told me that they were not taking responsibility for the damage and that our vehicle was "very old" and that the damage could've been caused by an accident. (Vehicle is 2004 and was in one accident in 2005- has driven over 100,000 miles since then with no problems.) We finally agreed to just pay for it, since we needed our vehicle by the following day. They told me it was very simple to repair the leak and would only take a few minutes. When I asked if I could watch the repair be completed, the OWNER of this place stood up, aggressively walked to me, and yelled in my face "HONEY, IF HE WANTED AN AUDIENCE, HE WOULD'VE BECOME A ROCKSTAR. SIT YOUR ASS DOWN." As a five-foot-nothing woman, I was extremely shocked that a grown man would talk to me that way, especially in a place of business and especially in front of my husband. It was a terrifying experience. After a few, very loud choice words (my father was a Marine Corps. Drill Instructor, so I don't take it too kindly when stupid people try to intimidate me), we walked out and never looked back. read more

Performance Preps new owners, Boonee and Ward Williamson, are awesome! Took my van in because the transmission was slipping and we knew it needed to be replaced and our extended warranty was up in 12,000 miles. Not only did they go over the entire van with a "fine tooth comb", identifying several other issues like a leaking head gasket that would have cost a bundle after the warranty was up but Boonee (who also runs the front office) fought for us with the warranty company. The warranty company wanted to replace our transmission with a used (not even rebuilt) one and she took them to to task on it. They also identified and fixed a huge problem with my brakes and rotators that Les Schwab had recently told me was just dust (they were warped!! And I could feel it). They were very patient with us as we had to let the van sit as we fought it out with the warranty company for over a week. Overall, the new owners are awesome and the work that was done was awesome. Boonee now runs the front office and was sweet and helpful and her husband Ward has been working as the primary mechanic at Performance Prep for over 20 years! Plus, Boonee gives out free cake pops to customers which my kids loved!! read more

Very expensive! I needed a Rochester 2 barrell carb rebuilt. I originally took it to Carburetors Unlimited in Auburn. They look it over and quoted $295 . I thought that price was to high, so I took it to Tom Turners Performance Prep in Federal Way. They looked it over but could not give me price until they found a butterfly valve price. Tom called 4 days later and said it was fixed. The bill was $600???????? No Really. I asked Tom how much a new one would be and he said it would be around $600. I authorized the work without an estimate... My Fault! I would never do business here again read more

I have been going to Performance Prep for years. There is a reason for that, they are outstanding. They have been taking outstanding care of my vehicles for years. They made it feel as if they had taken 100,000 miles off my truck. It ran better than it had in years. I had a small concern about factory OEM water pump parts that had been known to fail. Ward suggested an inexpensive modification to preclude future issues. It worked like a champ and I have had no problems since. This shop is a joke, I called to pre arrange a buyers inspection of 2001 F150 truck and the owner dropped off the truck, the shop of course had me prepay for the buyers inspection, the inspection was done and I called and asked for email attachement of inspection and of course this was not possible they would not send it but told me over the phone the truck was good shape... Well this is what they never did, (THEY NEVER INSPECTED THE TRUCK Other than a walk around.) if they actually put it on a lift or crawled underneath this what I found after purchasing.. Rear axle assembly so rusted it had to be entirely replaced along with all brake lines, the spare tire rim was completely rusted away and still is stuck on truck due to corrosion will need to be cut off, the MPG is awful because the coil packs are both bad as is the plug wires, needs water pump, radiator, and this is just the short list. The point is the salt water corrosion was so bad probably from towing a boat trailer in puget sound, that many of the lower frame parts such as fuel tank and other parts all need replacement. WOW tried to talk to shop manager but he was o0f course without wrong doing.. the mechanic who did this a JOKE. A 10 year old child could have crawled under this truck and saw the rust and corrosion. Any shop who takes 130.00 bucks and does nothing for it well there not a shop but a money taker I will be filing an Washington State Atty generals complaint on false business practices on these guys they deserve to be called out. .
