I notice that doesn't always go over well here. Too bad. On that note, Satkar is by far and away the closest thing to the REAL Indian food I grew up with in San Francisco, the land of cheap, delicious, authentic ethnic foods. Satkar is like the best of both worlds: outstanding and authentic Indian food at dirt cheap prices at lunch time (€8.50 for lunch deal - main, side, raita, rice, salad bar, and potato salad or special salad of the day), fantastic service, and a really lovely and comfortable interior. The Aloo Ghobi and Chicken Tikka Masala exceeded all expectations and the service is quite honestly among the best I've enjoyed in Helsinki in 2 years. Smiles, conversation, a genuine interest in whether or not we enjoy our meal...where am I!?!?!? Since moving here, I've been unhappy with the lack of really good Indian cuisine but Satkar has changed all of that. Satkar is now in my Top 5 favorite places to eat in Helsinki. Outstanding! Bravo! Even if the food was just ok, I'd come back again and again for the wonderfully warm customer service alone. I loved his wine selections as pairings but if you go and love wine, ask to see the handwritten list. It is crazy for being so far in the frozen north. The owner keeps them stacked in his office and only for those willing to ask.
