She proceeded to look me dead in the eye and lock the doors. I couldn't believe it, we are in the middle of a pandemic with a failing economy. You would think they would be welcoming customers, especially after being without a job during the month long closures. The parking lot is deserted as always, this location was never very popular and on its way to closing it's doors already. She was carefully working within her allowance budget, and the tank was clearly marked at $4.98 for assorted African cichlids, which is where we selected both fish from. Unfortunately, when we got to the register, one fish rang up at $20.99 and the other at $19.98. The explanation we were given was that the fish sometimes jump between tanks. While I understand that can happen, the store has dividers/partitions available and could easily separate or properly label the fish. At the very least, someone could have informed us before we spent time picking them out and getting excited about bringing them home. It was especially frustrating because my daughter was trying to responsibly budget her own money, only to be blindsided at checkout by prices that were 4-5 times higher than advertised. Accurate labeling and communication matter, especially when families and kids are shopping.

They are the absolute LOVES of my life! Despite all of the bad rep and reviews they get, I am blessed to have two perfectly happy & healthy puppies. One did have Giardia whenever I first brought her to the vet. However, this is bound to happen when and if they step in their brothers or sisters poo/water that is contaminated. It's a bacterial infection that's easy to get rid of. Ever since, I haven't had any issues. They come with all of their paperwork, vaccine records, and the employees + vets in the background are amazing with the puppies. There's always someone cleaning the insides of their pins. Giving pups their supplements/medicine if they need it. I've seen them love on them as well from the backside of the pins. They're very well treated while spending their time at PetLand before being adopted. We repeatedly communicated that we were not interested in the female Doberman puppy we met, but we felt pressured to reconsider and look at other breeds despite clearly stating what we wanted. Aarti, the sales associate, checked with the McKinney location and directed us there the same day because they had a male mini dachshund available. Unfortunately, we experienced the same pressure. We were repeatedly interrupted while spending time with the puppy and asked if we were ready to take him home before we had even made a decision. Insurance, pricing, and paperwork were brought up before we gave a confirmed yes. Three days later, on July 15th, our puppy tested positive for Giardia and coccidia at the vet. The vet also suspected an upper respiratory infection and prescribed medication that helped. Given the timeline, these issues were unlikely to have developed after only three days in our home. Our puppy suffered -- these illnesses, affecting his appetite, bowel movements, and sleep. It was upsetting to learn that Petland's contract specifically excludes coverage for Giardia and coccidia, despite how serious these conditions can be for young puppies. Please do your research, ask detailed health questions, and schedule a vet visit immediately after bringing a puppy home.
