I unfortunately don't usually have a pleasant experience at this Petco location, I stop by every other week to get crickets for my pet frog. I've been told to ask for them at the counter and usually have to wait a while for another employee to get them from the back. It may be short-staffing issue, but some of the staff seems to be unmotivated and unfriendly, and I feel like it takes a lot longer to get my crickets than it should. My most recent experience was especially negative, I had stopped by the day before and been told that they did not have any crickets because of a supply chain issue, and would be receiving them the next afternoon. I came back the next day to find that they were still out of crickets, so I decided to get some small roaches instead. They were on clearance, so we needed to wait for manager approval on the register for the discount. The manager took more than 10 minutes to arrive. I don't think I will be visiting this location again, which is a shame because there are some great, friendly people who work there, but they are overshadowed by the poor customer service attitude of management and some other employees. read more

Apparently this location is even worse to try to order online! I see a 'spooky tree' cat scratcher I just have to have and it was on sale too! To get the free shipping, or drop off to you, order $35. So I ordered some cat food thinking it was the price and size I normally get elsewhere but it was $1 more for half the size (which is why I do not shop here!)...but I also ordered a handful of small seasonal toys since all the bats and ghosts are so cute and also on sale for $3 each or cheaper! I felt ATTACKED... SERIOUSLY... First I get three emails and two texts saying THEY GOT MY ORDER...OMG, calm down.... Then, I was not prepared because each individual item (like FIVE $3 and under cat toys... 1 small bag of food and the spooky tree) were apparently bagged up individually and done as a separate thing. I am not kidding. I got an email and text for each thing saying it was ordered, on its way and delivered. All day my phone and computer were pinged it felt like every five minutes. My poor cats were losing their shit because so many people were sneaking around the front porch making noise all day long. Oh, and several of the delivery things gave multiple updates just inn case I was worried that their drive from down the street might be delayed. Visited this location this week just to look at the animals and walked over the fish area to see everything was fine until I kept on walking to the last two tanks to see many fish in them and to see some of them dead. Does this location not have an hourly check up for the animals? Or look to see if there's a problem with the fish. Went in to buy dog food with my brother who had to use the restroom and he was very rudely told no public bathrooms to which he explained he's a paying customer and isn't just someone walking in and they still said no for their "safety" while that happened I was met by a very rude worker at the check out counter who did not want to interact or talk with any customers. I understand everyone has their days but to not be welcomed into the store or met with a smile or anything really makes me want to go elsewhere going forward. read more

This morning, get a call from Starr, the groomer, whining that she is not comfortable grooming any dog over ten. No apologies. No offer to help find alternatives. Just cancelled. I have taken my dog here for regular nail trims for over 2 years, the way I have seen this store decline is unbelievable. Not having a manager to open the store, making staff and customers wait outside past open hours. Not having a manager to setup the till so nobody can check out, mind you it takes 5 minutes to trim my dogs nails so I just had to stand there and wait. Plus, it's nearly impossible to setup an appointment at the groomer anymore, you have to call 3+ times just to get a call back. The grooming salon lost McKenzie due to the mess happening at this store and I swear she was single handedly keeping the grooming salon afloat. This store needs helpppppp. read more

We had an appointment for our 8 month golden doodle for a hair cut. We walked in and the groomer said no, we can't do that , we'll charge you $79 for a butt shave, a paw shave and a trim around her eyes and a bath We left our pup, five minutes later we got a call saying pick her up, I won't do this. Ok she was nervous but petco made no attempt IMHO. My husband gave our doodle a bath at home and is currently clipping her with scissors, to be followed up with dog clippers as he has always done with our former (RIP) doodle. I wouldn't use Petco ever again for dog grooming. I would like to rate this facility as zero star but that's not an option. read more

Went in to Beaverton Petco on Halloween to purchase a lizard. That was 75% off. We had talking to the employee the day before. He told us to get a 20 gallon tank. We came in, he was busy. He told us to wait, so we did. And then the manager came up in a outfit. That was completely unprofessional as a manager. It looked like he was a prostitute. He had a tiny dress on. A makeup running all over his face completely unprofessional. He then started to prod into our business asking what size tank we had I told him 20 he asked if I was planning on buying a bigger one I then told him we were he then asked when I asked him why is it your business we already spoke with your employee about buying the lizard he then told me i had a bad attitude and to have a great day and walked away from me so he refused to sell us the lizard because we didn't have a proper tank but we bought a tank that his employee told us to buy. I then called him sir he said he was a maam and then refused to sell us anything after that. He told his employees to ignore us and not sell us anything. He then called the police Because I refused to leave because I did nothing wrong. we were then asked to nevwr come back but no one was in trouble. They are unprofessional there I felt immedietly discriminated by this person right away and I have no idea why and he had no reason to treat me the way he did and he also had no reason to not sell us that lizard. My rescue kitty stopped using her litter box and I was understandable freaking out! It's impossible to clean the urine stains, smell and color, so I had to toss my brand new shag rug. Tossing the kitty wasn't an option, so I headed to Petco in Beaverton to purchase many items I had read about online and advice given by my vet. While the store layout was confusing, with the help of their customer service rep, I found my way to the cat section. I purchased another box, different litter (Petco's brand, SoFresh) that is very fine sand plus herbs to attract cats, a large mat since this box was going in a new location, a calming collar and new food and water beds so the kitty would have all her own items, separate from the other cat, who is alpha. Sami helped me pick out items - and seeing how distressed I was, gave me lots of encouragement. This may sound crazy, but I needed that more than anything. You hear horrible stories about cats who refuse to use the box and can't be retrained and I didn't want my house to suffer or to have to find the kitty a new home. Armed with the new items and a plan, I headed home, set up her new pad in my guest room, and prayed. The kitty took to the new litter immediately! Evidently she didn't like the pellets I was using, the same ones she used while at the adoption place. As Sami said, for some cats it's like pooping on lava rocks! It's been 4 days and no accidents. The kitty is no longer quarantined in the room, she has full access to the house, and keeps going back to her room to use the box. My other cat is now using it also so I'm switching from pellets to SoFresh in her box also. Once you buy the original container, you can refill the 16 pound size for just $5.99, a great value. When I came back to this Petco the next day to return an item and buy one I had forgotten, Sami was working again and greeted me instantly, asking about my kitty and the situation. I thanked her for the counseling and support she provided! She was so helpful! The only reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5 is there is a urine smell that hits you when you walk in. While I understand people come in with their dogs, they should not be marking! I haven't experienced this at other pet stores so it was a bit startling. read more

Autumn was very rude in my opinion. I've never been ID'd at a Petco before but she looked me up and down and asked in sort of a harsh way "Are you 18?" I am almost 19 so this was a shock? But looking me up and down was rude. She was rude to my friend and told her she couldn't buy a betta because it was "policy" to not have a minor buy a fish. She asked if my other friend could buy it for her since he was 18. "No." She asked if she could call her dad and confirm that he allowed her to get one. Again, no, said in a very harsh tone....never in my life has this petco ever had a policy where you had to be 18 to buy a FISH! Autumn had a smart mouth and was giving attitude and short answered to my friend. Never going back again. She asked how big my tank was and that kind of nature. I almost refused but realized she's doing this to not sell me a fish. I did lie and say that it's a five gallon and heavily planted (no plants are added yet but it is a 5gal and heated) because I didn't wanna have to give up my dream betta I have been wanting to get for ages. I asked if I had any points I could redeem for my betta and she huffs and says "Well do you HAVE THE APP OPEN? YOU ONLY HAVE *5* POINTS!" That took me aback, I was just asking. I just wanted to say the other employees here are very kind and respectful, but I'm definitely not returning. I have gone to this Petco for over 30 years for all our pets and will now never go into another Petco again unless they fire their current groomer and notify me. Dani, Petco's only groomer at this Beaverton location refused to groom my golden retriever unless I paid extra for a "de-shedding shampoo". When I responded my golden did not need that, but maybe just extra brushing, Dani responded that she would not do that because my golden may get "brush burn". She then told me to go somewhere else. This is by far the worst of the chain I've been to and will now drive 1/2 an hour out of my way if I have to go to Petco not to go here. It seems large. The people are friendly. For cat stuff though they have little stock and constantly out of things. The other one has more variety and is hardly ever not stocked up. It's utterly frustrating going in there. 9 out of 10 times no joke, they don't have all I need. I used to buy only at Petco. Now I go to PetSmart. I foster cats and go weekly to the pet store the cheapest $50 a hit usually a bit over $100. So I'm not running around to multiple stores for what I need. I now only go to PetSmart or drive 1/2 hour away if PetSmart doesn't carry it. read more

I will never shop at ANY PetCo again. After 15 years of purchasing food for cats and dogs, I had to make a return and was TWO days past the 30 day policy. No offer of exchange, no offer of store credit... just NOPE. They were consistently out of what I needed for my cats, so in desperation switched to the Rabbit version of the same brand. UPDATE: was contacted by the Manager after this post, who talked with corporate and agreed to send a check for our vet bills. We were elated and I couldn't wait to come back and update this review with wonderful words about Petco... BUT we have been waiting for two and a half months for this "check". We purchased a baby beardie in July, she was sweet as can be. After some strange spots showed up, I rushed her to emergency vet and she was diagnosed with Yellow Fungus. APPLE PAY!!! Ok...they DO have an entrance on the back side - the grooming entrance which feeds in to the store. No biggy, although I did have to walk around to the "main" entrance and ask at checkout. Staff are friendly and helpful. No sighs or eyerolls. More like eager and pleasant. Like most pet stores, they don't carry Pure-Vita, but they get points for knowing what it is and that at one time they did carry it. Although I went in for kitty treats I took the time to ensure they have all other items I need for my pets. Except for the Pure-Vita, they do. My only complaint would be store layout...it is a tad confusing and tight to roam around in. That said, I'm sure it will get easier after a few visits. No worries. I usually shop at Petsmart, but Petco is closer for me and Petsmart doesn't take Apple Pay. So I'm going to throw my business to Petco moving forward because it's less of a drive, I can get everything that I have been getting at Petsmart, and THEY TAKE APPLE PAY!! I recommend Petco. this might be the first time i've experienced discrimination. I had never met someone so rude in my life. I walked in was greeted by Autumn who gave me the rudest stare and asked "can i help you??" in a snotty way. i said "no it's okay" because i don't want to interact with an employee who seems like they don't want me there. Me and my family proceeded to then look around at the beta fish. When my dad picked two i went to ask if I can sign up for a membership before I made my purchase. I was then interrupted with "how big is your tank". It was rude how I asked a question and was combatted with another for no reason. I explained that I'm getting a 5 gallon tank because i cannot purchase one here- then asked them "why?" and they explained that i need an environment set up already and need to buy EVERYTHING IN THE STORE. I do not have the budget to buy everything at the same place when I was planning to pickup at another tank and supplies the same day. They also told me that I can't put beta in one tank and i need two. i explained that I knew that already since I have owned fish before and will get a divider for the two fish since it's easier. this whole time they talked down to me like I was dumb. I proceeded to try and put the beta fish back and they rudely told me to give it back and i said "no i can put it back". I got the impression that they were discriminating and not selling to me because I am a person of color and thought I was going to steal them I told my dad about it and he told me he had a tank instead- so he was going to buy the fish since he had things at home that I didn't know about. Autumn then proceeded to be rude and refuse my asian family service. Never going back again. Customer service sucks. After dinner at Yuzu, we make detour across the street so I can buy one of those chunks of deer/elk antler for the pupster to chew on. My sis and her hubby said "these things last forever!" so I figured I'd give it a try. I walk in and there are people standing around 5 large dog crates and one of them is holding a puppy. Turns out it's a dog rescue group up from Merced, CA with dogs and puppies that had been abandoned and they're looking for people to adopt them. Very cool! Anyway, I look around for these antler things and end up asking one of the staff where to find them. He takes me to the area and I look through what they have. As I have a Black Lab I'm looking for a larger piece, unfortunately most of them are smaller. As I dig around I find the largest piece they have, it's about 6-7 inches long, but sliced in half lengthwise. Not exactly what I wanted, but I decide to buy it anyway. But OMFG are these things EX-PEN-SIVE! $30 for this thing, WOW! Otherwise the store was clean, nicely organized and looked to be well stocked with all sorts of pet related stuff. I am summarizing the best I can on this review. The grooming department lost all of its original employees from five years ago. And then it closed for while. Now they are open with all new employees in the grooming salon. This is NOT a good thing. I gave my dog to Chris for a bath and blow dry. My dog does not shed, does not have dander of any kind and is extremely well behaved. The best pricing he could offer me was three times the pricing of what I had been paying for five years (INCLUDING THE TIP!) For a ten minute bath and four minute blow out. I told him with pricing that high, I wouldn't be leaving him a tip, but at that point it was nothing personal. He totally understood and we both agreed that if I talked to Mike, the Store Director, I might be able to get some kind of agreed upon pricing as my dog was a solid regular there for years. Also, I know the groomers get a cut of the groom or bath, but I would rather give them more pocket money because my dog, I have been told by many, is the best behaved dog to bathe. 2) I have been trying (hard) to talk to the Store Director, Mike. For the last 18 months since he has been there, he has always been able to help me out with whatever I needed. Now, I don't even add up to the courtesy of a returned phone call. So, Store Directors are not always all they appear to be. Just remember that. 3) After Chris's bath of my dog, he looked fine and acted fine and other than paying three times what I used to for a bath. But, later on that day, my guy started to get busy trying to get to every part of his body to scratch or lick. I checked him out and he was a pretty broken out dog. It wasn't terrible, but it certainly was not good and definitely was not anything that I'd every seen before. I consulted with doggie medical professionals and watched for any other symptoms and there were none and everything was gone in two days. But, what bothers me so much about this is that I went over all of the shampoos and practices with Chris before I left him with him. He should have been fine. But, he wasn't. 4) Mike had espoused the workings of one of the three new employees in the salon, by the name of Sabrina. I had the pleasure of talking to her on the phone twice before I took my guy in. She was super nice, great attitude and was right there with me on everything I was talking about. So, when I had picked up my dog on that one and only visit, Chris, his groomer had told me that if I went with one of the two people under him it would be easier to charge less just because of the experience level and what they can and can not do. Everything they can do is just what my guy needs. So, this sounded like a good way to start the conversation with Mike. But, since Mike has never called back after repeatedly trying to reach him, I never got this far. I had booked the second bath for Sabrina when I picked my pooch up from the first, one and only, visit there with Chris. 5) Sabrina did call back. But she did not sound like Sabrina. At all. I asked if she was okay, and she got out a yes, kind of barely. I was really concerned about what was happening on this call and no one had said much yet. So, when she blurted out that she: " Is not comfortable bathing a dog like mine with so many underlying health conditions... he really should stay with Chris, who has more experience." I replied to her: "Sabrina, my dog doesn't have any health conditions at all." She replied: "I'm sorry, but from the frequency of the baths, he will have so many underlying health conditions that I will not be comfortable bathing him." And then she said she had to take my appointment off the books and I would have to rebook with Chris. That was the end of that call. So, really, this is a piece of 'you know what' store. I have lived under the guise that Mike was a good guy all this time, but putting someone like Chris in as the 'lead' groomer back there obviously has implications that are financially driven and NOT driven by sympathy or care for your dog. I know what Chris was trying to do. And it's a lot of things, but it is not smart, it is not ethical, and it's definitely not going to be anything that happens anywhere near my dog. This location of Petco is a shit show, plain and simple. There are nice people working there on the floor. The braided one is not one of them. Mike always told me (pre-covid, middle of covid) that I could ALWAYS take a treat off the treat bar and give it to my dog. "Every dog gets a treat just for walking in", he would say. The guy with the braid said this to me: "I better NEVER EVER see you do what you just did when you got the treat off of the treat bar." I thought he was joking, but he wasn't !!! I have enough mean people in my life, I don't need more puppies peeing on my floor right now. How do these people sleep at night? GO TO TANASBOURNE PETCO. IT IS A DIFFERENT SOLAR SYSTEM. This store used to be my favorite, but over the last 2 years the quality of customer service and products have gone down so much so that I dread even going into the store. i never leave reviews but today i am in hopes that something changes. Customer service must become a priority in this store. i realize that employees can become overwhelmed especially when things are busy and this can effect judgement or tone. but on several occasion I've witnessed employees talk badly about other coworkers in front of customers and not even acknowledge people at the register. "today as I was checking out not even a hello, did you find everything" and to top that I had 7 items one being a package containing 6cans of food. after the cashier scanned the items they were just left on the counter and then the person proceedEd to get on the radio. when I realized I wasn't going to be offered a bag I grabbed one myself and bagged my items so that I could carry everything to my car. as I said before normally things like this wouldn't bother me enough to write a review, but I have a hurt leg which is effecting my mobility so I guess I'm a bit more sensitive that normal. however, there are people that continually need more consideration, and assistance than I was given today. this PetCo needs to do better. I have just come back for a nail-grooming! Once again, my Pitty Sophie was treated like a Queen. Ezekiel, as always was astonishingly kind and sweet to our girl! Remy, also is just wonderful! Our pup is a Black Pit and is absolute love bug, she has been always treated like a show-dog here! Not so, elsewhere! The rates are super reasonable, so run over there! I'm surprised to see this store location rated so low. I went in after taking in a hungry kitten and the store associates were awesome in helping me figure out what the heck I was doing. They gave me a coupon book and a checklist to help me take care of my new pet. As for my experience, I'm giving this store 5 stars and plan on returning for my catfood and treats.
