This location certainly was interesting. Came at 6pm on a Saturday night and there were about 20 people in the store which felt like a lot for the time and day. And with only 2 visible staff, they felt pretty understaffed. The entire place felt a bit messy. Boxes everywhere. Products falling off the shelves. But at the same time, well lit, and lots of signage. I didn't have to walk around long to find the section I needed. They had a bargain bin / shelf and it had a pretty good selection. Parking was numerous given the time and day I stopped by here. Didn't get any services done here because it looks like everybody has a negative experience here. So for me, I'll just stick to the treats, window shopping, and toys for my pets. In short, it feels like every good thing that this location has, there was something negative I saw or witnessed. We have been coming to this Petco for years I just wanted to bring it you your attention that Everytime we go to the reptile section there's always an employee who rolls her eyes whenever we go for crickets. I understand we get busy and we have other things to do. But when it comes to customer Service , you should always be happy to help or make it memorable for the customer. Grooming at this place is horrible... we just moved to the area and our dogs needed to be groomed. We booked online for our two dogs. We usually take our dogs to the groomers in mission valley. But decided to try this place out since it was closer. First off, when we booked online, it won't change editing my dogs size. The last time we brought him here, he was a puppy so since wanting to edit his size. It wouldn't change on the app. We booked his appointment. When we got there, they complained about the booking because in their system it showed him as a small dog. He's considered a large dog. I get it. It's a mistake so i didn't complain. They took both our dogs to groom. We come back and they charged us extra for one of the dogs having "long hair". BOTH OUR DOGS HAVE THE SAME LENGTH HAIR! I'll never bring them back here. I have been taking my husky since he was a puppy to get groomed here. JESSIE originally groomed my dog but she quit a couple years ago, not sure exactly when, but I decided to still stay there after she left. Jessie always did an amazing job on him and she always let me know how good of behavior my dog had and any issues she had, she'd let me know. After she left, others started grooming him and they eventually made me book VIP for him because he was "kennel aggressive," meaning they were no longer putting him in a kennel due to his "aggressiveness." It honestly took us by surprise because we never had any issues with him being any kind of way towards anyone. Anyway, we agreed and had been paying VIP service for a few years now. Never had any complaints about their service, until this last time. They did a HORRIBLE job. He smelt like a wet dog and didn't even properly de-shed him. Each month I'd take him, they spend less and less time on him. I called to see if we could pay half the price and get him re-groomed and they told me they couldn't accommodate pricing so suggested I get a refund, which I wasn't even insisting on but whatever I went down there to get my refund and the manager of the store, I don't remember her name, had such a attitude about it and basically told me i'm no longer allowed to get him groomed there. She kept blaming my dog for still being wet because he didn't like the dryer and so rather than letting me know, they left him wet. You ARE NOT suppose to leave long haired dogs wet because it can create fungus in their coats. Anyway, this place started to suck after Jessie left. Right as I walk in I'm greeted with a nice reminder that "Petco cares about their animals" and right after that I am looking straight at a wall with tiny containers filled with half dead beta fish, the containers are dirty and some of the fish are completely upside down. I came to buy a container for a couple of hermit crabs I was going to buy, and I asked one of the ladies if they had a glass lid in order to keep humidity inside, she looks straight at me and tells me they dont need those and brings me over to a lid that is for a frog tank and another for a lizard. (These tanks have holes in them). I tell her that she was wrong, but she continues to push it and says that they don't need them, saying that they will run out of oxygen (P.S hermit crabs have gills) And I would also like to mention how expensive everything is! There was also only one shopping cart when I got in there, the place was barely busy. Edit: I contacted customer service and went back a few days later and everything looked a lot better, the beta fish tanks were clean, and the customer service was so much better, I got amazing help and even got a little sheet of paper on how to care for your new friend, I'm happy to announce that my 4 hermit crabs, loddie, moxie, kernel, and link, are perfectly healthy and happy. read more

This is the closest petco for me so it's my go to place, overall the service is good, but the area of improvement here are the crickets (I go there twice a week, every week). I understand everybody is busy and they stink and they might not like it, but every time I go for crickets it's the same thing, nobody wants to do it, they don't even acknowledge you, they don't even look at you when you talk to them. Not a "here you go", nothing. This is the last time I visit this place for crickets (I waited for improvements but I give up). Only 1 girl there is nice, a short young lady with glasses, but the rest of them make me feel unwelcome, unappreciated, and that I'm like a bother. My dog was rejected for her grooming appointment today because I informed the staff that she has a history of epilepsy. Had I lied, I wouldn't be writing this review!! My dog's vet is 30 feet away at the Vetco, I would have signed any liability form (like I did for her recent procedure at the vet). My dog has been getting groomed for the last 6 years at least quarterly without any issues. I'm frustrated because the Health and Wellness company does not want to care for all pets. No where could I find listed in the Petco website that dogs with any sort of pre-existing condition will not be allowed to be groomed by Petco. Not a true Health and wellness company!!! read more

Had my puppies first appointment at Vetco. The staff was lovely and made my pup feel right at home. The reason I'm deducting 2 stars is because the actual vet was a jerk. He obviously had something against my dog because we purchased her from a breeder. He acted as if she was an alien and that all the forms I presented were illegitimate. He stated that the time between her shots were too short (2 weeks), when they were actually given 3 weeks apart. Either someone needed their morning coffee or he's arrogant by default. Im getting her recommended shots(hopefully other vets work there) and going to another vetco location for future appointments because who really wants to put up with an A-Hole who can't do math first thing in the morning. read more

This location has a veterinary hospital for all pets. Love the amount of selections available to purchase pet food on my case food for my macaw Amazon parrot . PetCo / VetCo DOES NOT HAVE Rx ORAL FLEA MEDS for cats in stock and WILL NOT confirm verbally over the phone when PetMeds tries to get confirmation, even though you have a VetCo written Rx! I have called their corporate, spoken to unhelpful "Brandy" at this location. I realize VetCo actually gave me the 'Bait & Switch' when my initial med appt was specifically for oral flea meds. When I took my cat for the appt, VetCo confirmed they had no flea meds in stock but would write me a prescription if I paid for a VetCo product, which I did. They emailed me a useless Rx if a company Comfortis that allegedly is going out of business. PetMeds only has Credelio in oral form & requires that phone confirmation, which VetCo refuses to do. Do I'm out almost $100 for the appt, it's been almost 2 weeks, & Petco is not helpful. I feel like a number. Take your cat elsewhere. read more

I cannot with this store. The store manager was completely rude and unhelpful. I believe her name was Jessica H or something like that. I wanted to purchase an animal that looked to be abandoned in the store and when I mentioned it, an employee immediately grabbed the animal and placed it in the back of the store so no one could see it. I wasn't able to take pictures but I'm telling you this store is falling apart. I asked what were they going to do with the animal? And the worker said oh someone will take care of him. That made me feel so nauseous and scared for the animal because the undertone of that statement alone was scary. I asked if anyone makes sure they get properly fed which then they said they do it in the morning and again that was so puzzling to me seeing as how these animals look like no one takes care of them properly. I then saw the store manager who really worked her way into talking about vital care when in my head I'm thinking where is the VITAL CARE for these animals? Take pictures and send them to animal abuse organizations and report the management of this facility!!!!!!! They need to get the animals out of there as soon as they can. I'm going to come back to get evidence, this is so disappointing for a Petco. I will be reporting to outside organizations since corporate is not doing anything. Lots of dead fish, dehydrated animals, not properly fed, I swear I saw a snake loose on the floor but could have been a toy I'm not sure. I brought my cat to the vet, spent $300 on blood work for them to literally tell me nothing. ON TOP of throwing random antibiotics at me that weren't for any specific thing. Very uneducated. Very unprofessional. I felt scammed, especially because I took my cat to west coast animal vet, they did the SAME work and gave me very thorough answers and solutions. I took my 7 month maltipoo to get groomed and will never ever take her to this location again. She gets perfectly groomed to the one she goes to but I couldn't take her and this Petco was the only one to have availability and I now see why. I feel horrible for all these reviews I see of them going home seriously injured. My dog is so so easy to work with, her last hair cut only took 2 and a half hours. I wish I could give 0 stars. I'm absolutely disgusted how this went down. yesterday my daughter took her dog to be groomed. when it was done my daughter paid and left and when she got to her car she started to check her dog out after the grooming and noticed her body was now full of rashes. My daughter immediately went back in and asked what happened the employee told my daughter that her dog came in with the rash already! which was a complete lie we take very good care of our dogs and we would have noticed if she had this serious rash all over her body. Here's my issue though if this employee (Luna) said she had it when she came in why not call my daughter and ask if she would like to proceed forward bec they are supposed to evaluate the dogs before they start so if it was in fact true why didn't my daughter get a call? if Luna noticed it before why didn't she do her job right? I'll tell you why it's because truth is our dog had no rash when she went in. I do not recommend this place as they really don't care about our animals. The retail staff were amazing it was the grooming department and the vet department that was questionable took my dog for a grooming visit HER FIRST VERY GROOM VISIT ! and DEFINITELY HER LAST I take very good care of my dog , she's my baby I notice everything on her . They took my dog in , groomed her I picked her up and luna told me right when I grabbed her that she noticed a rash on my dog during her bath and she thinks it's from her harness.... her ENTIRE CHEST GOING DOWN TO HER LEGS SHE WAS SUPER RED !!!! AND HAD LITTLE BUMPS i tried to figure out what they had done ? Maybe an allergic reaction I freaked out for starters I was in emotional distress , and luna the groomer didn't even seem to really care . They stated that they do a Pre inspection prior to working on the dogs and call the owners to let them know i never received any call any notice about my dog apparently having a " rash " They brought in a vet nurse to tell me that it looked like it was from allergies possible inflamed dermatitis never seen her so red nor the bumps so didn't buy it . I also have photos&videos of my dog 3 days before of her chest area and there's no " dermatitis " they said they took her a bath with oatmeal soap but she smelt very perfume I don't give a shit about money !!! I wanted them to acknowledge what they've done but they were crap and shitty I DEFINITELY DESERVE MY REFUND AND MY TIP I GAVE HER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT DESERVE SHIT! Confirmed that they always do a pre inspection prior to touching the dog and call the client before they do ANYTHING BUT I DID NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY ARE LIARS AND BULLSHIT i literally cried confronting them . More than just a dog to me they got me fucked up ! Plus the nurse who answered my phone call was rude and helpless just wanted to be passed to the nurse who seen her skin after to ask her a question she tried to get smart and when I asked for her name to make a complaint she said didn't have to provide me her name . I love petco but this location is the worst for grooming. I went to get my Pomeranian groomed and at first they didn't trim her butt and it looked like a half fast job. I had to take her back because they didn't finish her but or even trim it. I paid $60 for this haircut. The second time I went for them to fix their mistake they shaved her butt and did a terrible job. I told them specifically NOT TO SHAVE her at all and they shaved her butt. I got a refund for the groom but it's going to take weeks or even months to grow out and we are going on a trip so now she looks like that. A refund is nothing for my dog looking like that. I don't know why the groomer would do that to her. If they can't do their job than they shouldn't be working. I get Pomeranians are harder for haircuts and they should have told me they couldn't do it because now I have to suffer with my dogs bad haircut. read more

i always loved this location for all my fur babies vaccinations. I brought my puppy to get her first grooming and will no longer be coming back. My husband went to go pick her up and had a horrible experience, he alarmed me that one of the groomers was calling our dog dumb under her breathe. they went to say goodbye to her and she didn't want them to touch her. she was acting like she she never does!! i have a hyper happy 7 month golden retriever, when he picked her up , she was quite in the car and had eye boogers from crying .. also here's a picture of her nails , they cut her and she bled.. they called me and said she pooped herself from the drier? she doesn't like the dryer much at home but never freaks out this bad..this Petco is lucky that I didn't pick her up!! no stars read more

Jiovanny is Best Groomer I have ever taken my dog to. I have a Miniature Dachschund that gets severe anxiety going to a vet or groomer. He has had two surgeries and ever since then, he starts shaking everytime we step foot into a vets office, or a groomers -even though he only gets routine vaccinations and the vets office staff are so kind to him. Jiovanny is THE only groomer that my dog doesn't shake around and is not scared to go to. My dog has black nails that grow fast and he has to get them trimmed every 4 weeks. I live in La Mesa and took my dog to Jiovanny when he worked at the Petco in La Mesa. He was transferred to Chula Vista. Now i go to the Chula Vista Petco Grooming because Jiovanny is there. Dogs know who the good people are and my dog loves Jiovanny ! The only thing that would make it even better, is if Jiovanny comes back to La Mesa. read more

We made a mistake trying another groomer (due to scheduling needs) and Tommy cowered in the car and in the corner of the house when we got him from that groomer! He has never acted that way! And they didn't complete his grooming because they said Tommy tried to bite them. I told the first groomer that Tommy is an old, deaf, and stinky doggie and that he will get scared if they don't help him feel secure. But when one groomer couldn't groom his face area, they had others trying which stressed him out and frightened him. We were able to get Tommy to Jovany a few days after this debacle. Jovany finished the job on the spot. Tommy didn't cry or whine or try to bite. Tommy came prancing out when Jovany was done with him. Tommy has been groomed by Jovany many times in the past and we should have waited to make our scheduling fit so Tommy could go to Jovany. read more

My dog suffered a blunt force trauma to the left nasal cavity and left eye contusion while they are grooming him. How? They said my dogs nose just started bleeding while being groomed. They took the dog to the vet and the result was blunt force trauma to the left nasal cavity and left eye contusion. To cover it all up, they said that there was no footage of the scene other than when we drop the dog off even when the manager of the store told us face to face that they have cameras all over the grooming station and the store. Whats really sad is, we called the Chula Vista animal care facility to report the incident and the officer that they assigned to the case did not even go to the store to investigate. The officer only called the person from Petco and based his report to what petco told him. Please do not take your pet to petco. read more

Extremely horrible customer service today. I walked in and asked the cashier a question about e cards. He replied to me rudely but didn't answer my question. We asked for assistance at the aquarium. Waited at the aquariums for about 10 min, decided to leave since there was no staff coming. Cash registers were empty and still no staff headed over to assist me and another guest. Last weekend I walked into Petco looking into grooming services for my boy Doby. The team was extremely friendly and took me in for Monday. My boy was so happy and looks amazing after his first session here thank you team for helping us get him looking great again. Paid for my pup to get her face, paws & Fanny trimmed. When I asked the groomer Susana why isn't her face trimmed like it supposed to be, she said they only do around the eyes which was untrue as I once took my pup to Eastlake and they did an excellent job. I wasn't satisfied at all. I also found out Susana added buffing to my bill prior to my pups 1st haircut without my knowledge.She didn't even trim my pups nails. I will never return to this location for grooming. I suggest customers check their bill to make sure she didn't add on anything than what you ordered. Another person brought that to my attention from another location. I don't trust thieves, She's more concerned about her pocket (money) than the pups appearance ! We asked for help finding an item and they didn't let us finish with our question, when they rudely interrupted and just pointed where to go. Then as we're walking down the aisle, we see a a Huge coackroch wandering about, and in the next aisle there was another one just squashed. My family and i are animal lovers its always fun to come in and see all the precious pets they have owned inside the store and or shoppers pets too. Very stingy with their carts only 3 or 4 in the entire store. I was rudely approached at by a worker, a man with curly hair and glasses I believe. This isn't the first time I've seen him be rude with a customer either. After he rudely stated I cant take it outside, he just grabbed the cart and walked away. This is for grooming. My dogs groomers is Savannah and she does real well with my dogs Loki and Mojo. Loki is over 50 lbs and is sometimes needing an experienced Groomer. Thats the reason we left the Lemon Grove store due to nobody experienced enough there to do it. Savannah does a great job for haircuts, baths, conditioners and anti flea applications. Great location and I recommend Savannah for all your grooming needs. I can tell she treats my dogs well when I leave them. read more
