The new Middletown Petco opened this weekend, and armed with my Grand Opening 20% off coupon, I went to check it out. This is by far, the most beautiful pet supply store I have ever seen!! It has a very zen layout, nice colors, beautiful signage. It feels like an upscale boutique type pet supply store, rather than a national chain. I am beyond happy that a pet supply store finally opened in Middletown, as previously we had to drive at least 20 minutes to get to one. We had Agway in town but both the hours and selection are limited. It will be great to have a full service pet store (including grooming) right in town. I took full advantage of the sale items and my 20% off coupon to stock up on stuff for the dog, cat and guinea pig. We left with a full cart! I still will probably buy my Wellness dog food online, as it is much cheaper (even with 20% off it was more expensive in store than I get online from chewy.com or doggiefood.com), but I will definitely be shopping at this new Petco regularly for all my other pet needs. read more

We just moved here from Florida where our vet always gave my 9 1/2-year-old great Dane a bath and cut his toenails. We Moved to Connecticut and came to Petco to get him washed and toenails done. The first time he went they were able to give him a bath but we're not able to do the toenails. Because of his age. Today we came to Petco again with an appointment for a bath and toenail trim, and they refused to do him because they thought he was too old. What do I do now? Vet won't do him and now Petco wont either. WTF? Isn't that what pet groomers do? Very disappointed in Petco. Won't be coming here for anything again. I bought an aquarium stand here. But had to darn near start a signal fire to get help and it was a task to get the guy to take it out to my car. He was too busy talking to female staff and turning lights off in the store 15 minutes prior to closing. A couple of the employees know about aquatic plants, moreso than the PetSmart on the other side of twin. Likewise, the selection here is better, as they actually have a plant tank. Their livestock is not as well kept as PetSmart's. I'd recommend patronising a local, privately owned outlet. read more

Some of the staff here are miserable. When you ask a question I have gotten eye rolls. They're not very helpful and seem to get very annoyed easily. Sad to say this because the groomers here are fantastic and very friendly. The cashiers and team members on the floor need a little pick me up. Learn to smile and say have a good day. read more

This is a beautiful clean store with helpful and friendly employees. I absolutely love their cat section and cat toys since I have several cats; they have a great selection of food and supplies for cats, dogs and other pets. I enjoy browsing the fish section and small animals and wandering the store checking it out. I am also very impressed with how this Petco helps local shelters and Pet charities. They promote pet adoption (I saw some cats that were up for adoption and read their stories) and they also give people opportunities to donate to these charities. In all, a great shopping experience. I look forward to shopping at this store whenever I am in the area. read more

Took our Shepard to the groomers there.. he has the worst anxiety also the biggest cry baby. The groomer Hannah was so patient with our boy he surprisingly got comfortable with her and let her finish grooming him. Such a sweet girl and you can tell she enjoys what she's doing! I have to say that I for one am glad to have a pet supply store in town. We have an agway but the stock is expensive and limited. The staff at Petco have been more than helpful and always pleasant. There is another pet store in Wallingford but their club card is a purchase and the savings not worth it. They also sell puppies from the mid west and we all know what that means. Petco works with local shelters not puppy mills. read more

Our 'go to' store. Knowledgeable and friendly staff and competitive prices and product. Gentle and caring groomers. It is UNFORTUNATE that our follow up with VETCO today tainted our opinion of this service and affiliation. We paid IN FULL a pretty price for annual physical and vaccinations and advised to return in two weeks for two additional vaccines. We arrived at 12:40 in the nick of time for our easy going 35 pound dog to complete vaccines that were previously paid for. They were already packed up and ready to leave, the assistant waiting to ask the vet if she would take the time to give the two vaccines. At 12:50, the vet says no she has to leave. I explain to the assistant that this is our two week that has been paid for and she returns to explain to the vet. The vet then comes to explain to me that I actually have 60 Days to get the additional two vaccines THAT I PAID FOR. It's now 1PM, their scheduled time to leave and now we are leaving as well. The time it took for the back and forth and finally an explanation from the vet that could not give two vaccines BEFORE 1PM (they take their last patient at 12:45) and that I actually have 60 days to have them given, SHE COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE JUST GIVEN THE 2 VACCINES, BEFORE 1PM. Now, I am obligated to return again next week and attempt to get my pooch the 2 vaccines I already paid for. Disappointed to say the least. read more

I was excited to check out the new Petco in Middletown CT on Sunday afternoon around 3oclock. The store is beautiful but the staff is less than impressive. My boyfriend and I are in the process of helping someone start a new aquarium up (a process I am not new too) & was in the store to purchase a filter and some feeder goldfish to help establish good bacteria and get the tank off and running. The person I am helping to set the tank up for went over to the feeder fish section and asked the employee in the fish department if he could scoop out 6 of the goldfish for his new tank. The employee immediately started asking questions and said he could not sell the 15cent fish to my friend but could sell the fish to my friend the following day because the tank is too new.. which does not make any sense. My boyfriend explained that this is not our first rodeo and we are using the fish to help the tank along. The employee got upset and said it was not morally ok with him to sell us the fish because they would die. My boyfriend and I assured him that they would not and that also these fish are used to feed other fish. My boyfriend was confused and so was I. My boyfriend explained that they are only feeder goldfish and he used to buy hundreds of them for a red-tailed catfish that would eat them. The employee then got really upset.. said "he does not agree with that" threw up his hands said he is refusing service and shook his head and walked away. The fish department manager never tried to intervene or solve our problem. My friend eventually got the fish but not without a hassle from the pet grooming manager. Today is Monday and guess what the fish are still alive and thriving. I will not be returning to this location.. Sincerely a very disappointed shopper. read more

Brought my dog in with gave paint on her paws and face. When I picked her up she still had pink on her paws and I was told that was the best they could do. They charged me almost $70. For that price my pup should have been super clean. Disappointed in the service. read more

Like the previous reviewer, I was also advised against goldfish. I have been keeping various types of goldfish for years and years with success, and I was there on a Saturday afternoon with my 7 year old daughter to pick up a "buddy" for her single goldfish at home. We have a great set-up already - 10g established tank with all the proper filtration, etc. - and the 1 fish we have has been thriving and happy for a year and a half. When the employee asked what kind of set-up we had, she started in with how we needed a larger tank (here comes the sales pitch) and that too many goldfish would be a bad thing because, "they will continue to grow and they could eventually explode from the inside". I was shocked, and my daughter just stood there staring at the employee in horror. Really, lady? I'm not going to spend $119.00 on a 30 gallon tank to house a 29 cent goldfish. I will never visit this store again. read more

I have only had good experiences thus far at the petco on Washington Street in Middletown. Hannah is phenomenal, she was my digs groomer prior to use switching to petco. She is professional and really helps me feel at ease leaving my dog for a grooming. She goes above and beyond to get my dog looking her best. The price is very comparable to other salons with great hours. There is always some coupon on line as well. The grooming area appears to be very clean. Overall great job!!!! My boyfriend and I go there all the time with our puppy Bo. The staff is so friendly and are very knowledgeable of the products and dogs. We bought the training package and Noah goes out of his way to help Bo learn a command. I used to go to the Petco in Newington but I'll go out of my way to come here from now on. read more

Staff are very helpful and kind. I typically go here to have my lab mix get a bath, nails trimmed, and teeth brushed. They do a good job and answer all my questions. Staff are super friendly and take there time getting her to go with them. It normally takes an hour. I also bring my own shampoo as she gets allergic reactions from other shampoos. I will be bringing her there from now on. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful; they've gone out of their way to assist us and give us useful information (we are new puppy owners).
