Since I reviewed PetSmart, I'll review Petco now. We have been going to Petco a lot. We always picked up Mocha Coconut's food here. If there is ever a problem or Mocha is being picky and doesn't like the food, it's very easy to return here. They are super friendly and remember you here and acknowledge your pet like family as well. I love visiting the cats here too. They are so cute and I always hope someone can take them home soon. Definitely a great place to shop, & get great service with a smile. read more

I sincerely wish I could leave a negative star rating because the grooming team at this location genuinely earned it. I have a 9-month-old Alaskan Malamute who HAD a gorgeous reddish-brown top coat with a full plumed tail. Her hair WAS long and thick and that tail was luscious. After a rushed - less than 3 hours - grooming experience, I now have a mostly cream-colored puppy with a ratty tail. Her coat is choppily cut and uneven all over which is frustrating since I SPECIFICALLY stated that I did not want her hair cut. I also SPECIFICALLY asked whether the FURminator product - that is advertised as one of their principal tools for de-shedding, - would cut her hair. The groomer assigned didn't know; which was concerning. Another groomer adamantly stated it would ONLY remove the loose hair. Her top coat was not loose hair. Red Flags: 1. There were only small crates and small dogs at this location but the site allowed me to book my puppy's appointment there. 2. The wide eyes and glancing back and forth at each other when they saw how big she is. 3. The groomer was flustered when she saw her and admitted to having difficulty handling her. 4. The groomer was unavailable to release the dog to me leaving that task to the receptionist. 5. Being required to pay before I am allowed to see or pick up my puppy. If this location is not accustomed to/staffed to handle large [breed] dogs - with or without double coats - that should have been clearly articulated when I was checking in. After paying for a bath and finishing spritz, she still stinks. As a consumer, I don't mind paying for services that I can not/don't have the expertise to provide for myself. This is not one of those service and I will be grooming her myself from now on. Why pay someone to do something that I can actually do - and do better - myself? I'm not angry, just disgusted with the glaring lack of knowledge care, and pride in the work. If there's no actual understanding of how to properly groom different coat types, no care in the tools selected/utilized, and no concern for customer outcomes then this is not a service the company should be offering. This is the second time I've attempted to utilize Petco's grooming services and have been left disappointed and waiting for her coat to grow back. There won't be a third time. read more

I would not recommend Vetco. They are just a money grab and are holding us hostage for our 16 y.o dogs insulin. In order to get his insulin they want to complete a $300 test every 6 months. The dog is stable and is near the end of life and just needs the insulin. We check his BS at home and monitor his behaviors. When I explained to Dr. Morris that we cant afford to do that every 6 months. He replied with "well you can establish care else where" and refused to give us a refill. We have spent probably close to $2000 there over the past 3 years for these tests. Doesnt seem like they actually care at all. This is specific to the groomers: This place is absolutely terrible. If I could give it zero stars I would. Their customer service is complete crap and I would suggest making the drive to PetSmart on 54. I recently moved to this area and had used PETCO groomers in Fernandina Beach and had 7 great years using them. This place stinks. The groomers have no manners and have absolutely no customer service skills including the manager BETH. I would typically drop off my dog in the AM and pick him up at lunch time. The first time I came to this store, I went really early before the store open because the grooming salon opens a bit earlier. There were 3 other people and I waiting for our dogs to get checked in. This lady walks in and puts her stuff down and shortly after there is a gentleman that comes in the door. She grabs his dog and checks him in. She doesn't say anything to us, not I'll be with you in a moment, let me take care of this gentleman because of XYZ. Then there is another person that comes through as we are waiting for similar treatment and they tend to that person again. I say to them, "How do I get that treatment?" because we've been waiting here for at least 20 minutes and I need to get to work. The lady doesn't answer and doesn't say anything that helps the situation. Everyone is upset. She was dismissive and completely unphased, with no empathy, no care, like I get that we are dog people and probably prefer them to actual people but she was just rude. They finally get to us and I say, "Listen, I have to get to work. I work from home but I still need to...and I came here early to drop him off." She just said that groomers don't check in other people's dogs. Today, I had a meeting at 11AM and my appointment was at 10:45 so I went to drop him off early about an hour so that I can get to my meeting in person in time. I sat there for about 25 minutes with the groomer in the back being able to see me. I asked the person at the register for the store if someone was available she's like on she should come out soon. She's probably in the back. I waited. Finally, the store manager passes by and I say excuse me if there is anyone available. He goes to the back and finally this lady Michelle comes out. I confused her with the one that I saw some months back. Michelle says nothing but. You can't drop off your dog early and we can't check-in a dog that we are not grooming. No hello, no I am sorry but I unfortunately can't check him in since it is not 15 minutes before the appointment time. She had no tact! AT ALL--then I tell the store manager who is an interim one and he is like--I've never heard of that policy and says he's the interim store manager for that store. When I picked up my dog I asked to speak with the grooming manager Beth and I told her what happened and she said it was actually her that I had the first interaction with where she checked in her dogs and didn't care about the rest of us standing there. I said well, I explained how I've been using Petco for many years and have never heard of this policy. So she goes toe to toe about how long she's been there and it's always been like this. I say look this is really unreasonable and I am like I don't understand. She's like I suggest you drop off your dog 15 minutes before and I am like are you serious and she's like yeah and if you don't like that I suggest you don't come back to this store. Now--If I would have cursed at her, berated her or treated her in a disrespectful way I could understand using that as a response to my plight but I did none of those things. She was rude, not concerned, uncaring, dismissive and not at all a person that should be dealing with dogs or people...maybe rodents (shrug) read more

Horrible customer service at pet grooming department. No professional greeting and made no eye contact. After waiting for a few minutes at the check-in without acknowledging my presence, Beth looks up and greeted me starting with a conjunction "AND who is this?" Referring to my pup. Almost like we were having a previous conversation in another lifetime and she just picked up where we left off. Not to mention how pricey they are, I would be expecting better service. This review is directed towards the Vetco Total Care Vet which is part of Petco. I regret coming to this establishment. It used to be Thrive Vet Care, but has subsequently changed to Vetco. They had our information in the system, but they are not affiliated with Thrive. Out of necessity we had to bring our dog here, and I do regret it. He received an allergy shot which didn't last nor than 2 weeks. I called them about 4 times, was promised a call back, wasn't called back and was eventually told I would have to bring him back, pay for another vet appointment so they could figure out what his allergies were acting up, despite having recently received the shot at their clinic. I'm going to have to give him doses of Benadryl until I can see my regular vet early next month! I would not recommend! read more

Apart from our first visit, when we had no idea about fish, the guy gave us a bunch of bad info. we had a five gallon tank, and "inches=gallons." and he gave us approximately 17.6 gallons worth of fish. read more

This is my local Petco and I'm a fan. My doggo sometimes visits the grooming dept and it is always staffed with super friendly employees that talk really sweet to my scaredy pupper. I know she's not the easiest to groom especially when it comes to her toenails. Appreciate ya. I don't love the prices for petfood etc but that's true across any pet store... companies know we love our pets and will try and buy what we think is best for them even if it's $$$. They always have a cute assortment of goods for the upcoming holidays as well as all the basics. This Petco is always tidy when I come in and the circulating employees are very helpful and seem happy to help. I don't have too many technical questions when I come in so I can't speak to that. My dog Emma, has been visiting the groomers for a number of years now. She is approximately eight years old and has had an injured paw, likely from falling off a bed. Some paw discomfort and a limp- nothing more!!! Although she does not require medication, she has shown signs of discomfort at times. Despite her nervousness, she has been described as a lovely and well-behaved patient. In preparation for her grooming appointment, I made a late booking in consideration of her potential fussiness. I made sure to inform the groomer about her occasional pain in the paw and her spinal issues( the reason for her paw discomfort).However, upon booking the appointment, I was informed of an additional charge for a VIP hour due to the late timing of the appointment. While I never heard of this charge and I was not initially informed of this policy and felt it was unjustified. I changed The timing of my visit because there were many slots opened and considered the groomers late leave. Despite EMMA's long-standing relationship with Petco and my prior disclosure of her time to time discomfort issue, she was denied service. This incident necessitates a full disclosure, as this has never been an issue in the past in other Petco locations. NOT ONLY A refusal of service AT THEIR LOCATION THEY ALSO PUT a blockage of service on her account. The sudden refusal of service after a week of knowledge about her condition, leading to a cancellation upon arrival, was disconcerting. While I do not appreciate the groomers explanation; It was very unprofessional for the manager to neglect their management responsibilities by failing to speak with me and provide an explanation for their decision to deny services to Emma. it has become apparent to me that this particular location prioritizes profit over the care of animals. This company's primary focus appears to be on sales rather than the well-being of dogs. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Emma has been seen many times at the Petco Brandon Location and I have never had any issues or problems whatsoever at their location. Immediately following that I visited a independently owned establishment where they graciously accepted her presence and commended her on her well-mannered and charming demeanor. It is important to disclose any potential discomfort, distress, or injuries to ensure the safety of all involved. If your staff is unable to accommodate such needs, that is understandable; however, please refrain from dishonesty!!! all you care for is upsell services or unnecessarily waste time. read more

EXCELLENT pet grooming services!! I've been there many times and thought they were ok until I had Corlissa at the Petco in Wesley Chapel groom my Beagle. She was absolutely amazing!!! This Grooming salon is the worst and I honestly need to find another place to take my dog. If your over 15 mins late while standing in line to check in, it's a problem. So today, my grooming appointment is at 11:00AM. I get to the salon early 10:15 AM because I also have an appointment at 11:00 Am. Chantelle, the groomer told me that I couldn't drop my dog off now because the groomer isn't here yet. I said that's fine that the groomer isn't here yet. It I'm dropping my dog off now (which I have done plenty times before hand). She said no, you can only drop the dog off when your groomer is here. Total lies. Their service is the worst. The way this place runs their grooming has really gone downhill is beyond disgusting. I have been coming here for 3 years for grooming and the customer service has definitely changed. Please don't go here if you have a dog in need of grooming with the right people. To me this is NOT IT. My dog was in need of cut and I said even going into it yes he is matted but they have worked miracles before. Today was not the case, Chrissy sat down with me and examined him and refused service, not even to do a trim anything for him. NEVER have I had been told no to service, after she explained the next steps I told her I will not be back for her. With that being said she was upset by my comment and got up and went into the back. They have a door that opens and closes, as I was trying to stand up she with "force" slammed the door in my face (it was loud) not a normal closing of the door. Highly upset I asked for a manager and she came back out to talk to me. I said you are not a manager and I don't want to talk to you, you need to leave. With an attitude she tried talking so I told her no til she said "I'm not being yelled at" and walked away into the back again from her being snippy with me. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! Please if you want a caring service stylist run from "CHRISSY" Management was better in "trying" to handle this situation but we're not understanding to my situation and will NOT BE BACK. Please find other service with a more friendlier and professional experience this is not it. Policies may have been changed, in the last 6 months but customer service should have NOT changed. Love the Petco grooming staff! They're super friendly and always do a great job with my pups! I also like being able to see into the grooming area and watch the groomers work. After a terrible experience with Petsmart grooming I get nervous leaving my pups with chain store grooming establishments. However, from the moment I walked in the members made me feel comfortable and were great with my pups! I now go back every two weeks or so to get my pups nails trimmed and never disappointed! I also like the setup of the store to have the grooming area in place right up front. This location will soon be opening a veterinarian clinic and I may be tempted to look into their services! read more

Talk about an impulse buy. My mom and I decided to adopt two kittens on a whim and it was the best decision that we ever made. Both kittens were only a $100 donation and came with free cat food. The staff was super friendly and the entire adoption process was less than 15 minutes. This Petco is clean, employees super attentive, and all products were displayed properly so I would add the merchandising is on point. If you live in the area and are looking to add some joy in your life, adopt from this location. The kittens we got are super chill, play with themselves, quiet, and keep to each other with the occasional burst of affection which is perfect. I don't know what happened to this place their grooming salon used to be wonderful the employees were very friendly and always did a good job. Things have gone downhill terribly I hate to say. A girl named Christie groomed my dog and I'm not happy with the way she did his haircut they ended up charging me an extra $40 for things that I didn't want and it doesn't look like she cut his nails. I took my neighbor to get a deer antler for his dog. They have a great selection and he was very happy to get what he wanted. He also found some great items on a closeout table. There was a particular toy that his dog really loved and since the dog was having surgery he wanted to give him something to enjoy during rehab. He bought four of them and was thrilled. read more

I am not a fan of this Petco location because I always have to find someone for help in the aquatics department. I've been to this location at least four times and each time customer service is poor. I went yesterday to have a water sample tested and it took a long time for someone to assist me. I could understand if the store was busy with customers but it wasn't. I absolutely love coming here! The staff is always helpful and friendly and they always have things I need. I went to get my dogs nails trimmed today and Sharon was amazing and super kind to my pup. I wasn't sure how she was going to be having her nails cut by a stranger but I saw how calm she was around Sharon and it made me feel comfortable leaving her. I have a 12 pound Mal-Shi who is a cuddle bug and sweet as can be. I have no issues when I take him to be groomed at PetSmart. NONE at all. However, unfortunately they don't run the 25% off as often as Petco does so I take him to Petco when I have a coupon. After my dog was groomed today, I was told that my dog bites and nips so much that they could not clean or cut his inner ears, and they have a hard time cutting his paws as well. They were unable to cut 1 front paw (how did the other 3 magically get done?) and his inner ears weren't cleaned or cut. The lady who spoke to me at the salon about these issues told me that she feels for the safety of my dog and her groomers that my dog should be groomed by a vet. Are you kidding me? Petsmart has no issues grooming my dog meanwhile Petco wants to try to ban my dog. How do these people get taught how to groom?! However they are taught isn't right. These groomers at Petco seem so be incredibly incompetent at their job. And honestly if he is behaving as badly as they say then maybe they are being cruel or abusive. He is a sweetheart who has no issues at other groomers. I think Petco needs to train their people a lot better. They should talk to PetSmart and see how their groomers are trained. read more

This store is usually good, but...if you buy any of the saltwater life in there, please DO NOT buy any live rock from there. i purchased two rocks from them a week ago. One rock I noticed immediately that it was INFESTED with bristleworms and fireworms! I did a fresh water dip to kill them, but i sprayed that rock for three days and still were flushing dozens of them out. I didn't think to check the second rock since I didn't see any on that rock, but decided to tonite, and it is also infested with them. I have literally flushed out HUNDREDS of these things. A few is not a bad thing, but this was on the way to taking over my tank. At this point I need to take out other rocks because I believe some of them may have moved to other rocks. We visit this store about once a month for our dachshund's dog food! They are always well stocked and I can easily grab what I need and leave within 5 minutes (granted that I have no kiddos with me). Now when I have the kids with me, this is the best FREE pet zoo and... we end up being there for at least 30 minutes visiting and saying "Hi!" to EVERY LIVING pet that resides there! Associates are very nice and I've never had any issues with customer service! I can't really say that I wish the store was a bit cleaner, but the store has been there for a long time and could use some updating or renovation. We've been coming here for 12 years and can say will continue to do so, until our pet crosses the rainbow bridge or the kids find another FREE pet zoo (that sells dog food too) that they prefer elsewhere! read more
