The main reason to go to this great male boutique shop is if you're a fan of Peter Cook, the great british comedian (dead) as this spaniard has chosen that name as the epitome of style for his clothing collection, and all his shirts are plastered with the name 'Peter Cook.' Glittery, spangled, lycra, all over Peter Cook, Peter Cook, Peter Cook. The latest ones cost EUR50 euro, but there is a terrific bargain rail where prices range from 11 to 15 euro. After much umming and ahhing I bought a Star Spangled one with Peter Cook written inside the lines of the outlines of the stars. But on second thoughts, I should have gone for the tshirt with Peter Cook written right across the chest. Yes, sad to say, the way to be really trendy in Madrid is to wear English seeming clothes, preferably Fred Perry (yes Fred Perry) and look as if you've stepped out of Quadrophenia. Indeed Chueca square itself has a huge billboard photo of London, featuring the Houses of Parliament and the Eye in the bottom corner, unfortunately looking south, showing a great view of Lambeth and Southwark, advertising the delights of our grey, sleepy capital, where there is nothing to do after 11pm (unlike madrid, like Ronnie Barker it is open all hours). Peter Cook is a little bit gayer than the mod styles, since Peter Cook is in Chueca, the gay area of Madrid. Inside Peter Cook was very friendly and welcoming, as you may expect from a gay business helping a good looking young boy get changed into a top slightly too tight for his beergut. I would definitely go inside Peter Cook again, given the opportunity. read more
