It was last Sunday, the folks called, 'Annie we are on our way we decided to surprise you for Sunday dinner.' Which translates as, 'Annie we are on our way to snoop around your apartment and to see if you care enough to cook us Sunday dinner.' I woke with my pillow stuck to my hungover face when the text woke me. Stuffing the party paraphernalia of the night before in the washing machine in haze whilst sleeping bodies twitched at my feet. Once the clean up was done, the dinner panic ensued, this butchers signage welcomed me in. Once the butchers stopped laughing at me, they picked out the best cut of meat to cut in a hurry, they even told me the best temperature to put it at. Best of all they are cheap, I'm all about the cheap. The result was the folks loved it and believe that I am a well adjusted adult.

For example, on Fridays they get in these deliciously tender venison medallions in. They are so good that they are usually gone that evening. They do lots of deals for buying protein in bulk and have lots of other deals on everything from chicken fillets to steaks. The guy who runs the place is lovely as well. He is always ready and willing to give advice and recomendations on their meats.

Or my favourite deal is where you get 6 chicken skewers (2 packages), 4 hamburgers, 4 large and seasoned sausages (yum), a package of wings, a package of drumsticks, thing of spuds, 2 lamb ribs, and some other chops for 20 euro. The quality is grand, service is friendly, and of course repeat business is remembered and appreciated. It is my understanding they also supply many of the local establishments with their meat needs.

However this conversation took a turn for the better, "certainly, how many?" now I have no idea how chicken innards are quantifies so I asked for enough to make soup, the butcher nodded sagely and handed me a bag. You see this is an old style butchers, they still do all the cuts and bits and pieces that others don't do but that in no way means they are in any way inferior! I like this place, Clynes is also a craft butchers (where have they all come from!?) the guys are friendly and freely offer advice, they take pride in the shop and its a nice place to go as a result.

It's all local (from their farm), delicious, and delivered to you with a plethora of advice, commentary and gags from both the staff and the always-entertaining queue of people (if you want a slice of real Dublin life, stand in the queue on a Saturday morning and listen to the banter in there). I can just imagine them having the mega LOLs with the local Grannies. There's a sense of community when you walk into this butcher. That may sound odd but this is the feeling I remember as a kid walking into local butchers with my Mam around Stoneybatter and Cabra. The array of meat on offer is amazing. They have lots of deals with mix n' match products that are freshly prepared and wrapped in foil trays ready for the oven of regular packs of other meats for frying or grilling. BUT the main reason I come here? Their SAUSAGES! [and by that I mean their own brand breakfast sausage.] Best god damn sausages in the whole entire world in my opinion. I have even bought gifts of these sausages for presents for people living on the south side. Yes you heard me. I bought a pound of sausages as a gift. That's how good they are. I buy them every weekend. So if you are lucky enough to purchase sausages from here I recommend heading across to Clarke's bakery across the street and buy some still warm fresh bread to make a mountains of sausie sambos!
