My girlfriend and I recently applied for a rental property at East Maitland, managed by Peters Real Estate and, in particular, Shona Smith. Even though I was not successful in being awarded the lease, I would just like to take the time to compliment Shona as she genuinely seemed to care about my circumstance. I have Cystic Fibrosis, a debilitating respiratory condition that also affects many other parts of the body, and often ends in lung transplantation early in life to improve quality of living.
When I inspected the property I brought up an issue of mould that was apparent on the ceiling of one of the rooms. Shona acknowledged this issue and I went on to submit an application at the office later that day. By the time I handed in my application, Shona was back at the office and answered any questions I had. I later received a call the next day from Shona, personally advising me of the situation with the mould and how it could affect my health. She seemed genuinely concerned for my well-being. Shona told me she had spoken with the landlord of the property in order to see what could be done about it, if I were successful in leasing the property in question.
She told me the landlord wasn't particularly fussed and did not quite grasp the urgency of how any mould growth could impact my health. Shona also said she was familiar with CF as a family member of hers also suffered from the same condition and was quite concerned about me living in the property with the mould issue in its current state.
Shona is quite possibly the only real estate agent who has ever called me back, personally. I also really admire her ability to empathise with my situation, as I'm currently receiving assistance from Housing NSW. Even though my girlfriend and I were unsuccessful in securing a lease with the agency, I would just like to say that I hope someday down the line we're able to lease a property with Peters if we could ever be so fortunate.
Shona seems to truly care about the people she does business with, especially those less fortunate such as myself. I hope she continues to represent Peters Real Estate for many years to come.
