I love the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Walking in feels more like entering a castle or historic…read morelandmark than a library. The building is beautiful, and every time I visit I notice something new. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, and willing to help, which makes the library feel comfortable and inviting. What I appreciate most is that there are so many activities and events that are free or very low cost. There are plenty of programs for teens, families, and adults, and everyone is welcome. It's definitely worth the drive from the suburbs if you're looking for a unique place to spend a few hours. Between the architecture, the helpful staff, and all the community events, it's one of the coolest libraries I've visited. I wish I would have known about this place when my boys were little, it would be a great stop after visiting the museum.

A beautiful library filled with tons of amazing resources and interesting and unique finds!…read moreOne of the things I loved was that this branch has a music library! I could spend all day just in that section. You can look at (and check out) all sorts of things from musical scores, concert programs, newspaper clippings and more. They even have instruments you can check out! I don't think there is any other library in the area that offers this sort of department. There is something for everyone here (and then some!). I've been here with my kids when they were babies and have taken them here for a variety of programs or even just to stop in when we are in the area. There are plenty of places to relax and enjoy your book (including a cafe) but lots of quiet nooks and seating areas as well. There is no parking lot specific to the library, but there is a ton of metered parking in the area. I highly recommend visiting this library, especially if you are looking for something unique. Or even just to enjoy some quiet time in a beautiful space.

They called the cops on innocent children that were just sitting there playing on the computer…read more Made the youngest child cry in fear because they did nothing wrong Then when the kids were leaving the librarians were laughing at the children So mature lol And as always cant check the video coverage because that's at the south park police department and since they go along with one anothers words they wont do anything but believe the wrong people and not the kids or other people involved. So I know that wont do me any good. For that reason I go on here and post things as I see it and take it..... Wish they would get new fresh caring people in the library because when you get old and warn down doing the same job every day and they get use to doing the same job everything becomes the same when actually nothing really is in the real world!! I Wright the truth and nothing but the truth about a business I wasn't going to let my kids go back to that place but they have absolutely nothing to do I dont want my kids in trouble or having problems with people for no reason I as a mom want my kids safe and where I know there at and not running the roads breaking the laws or getting hurt. But some times bad people are in the good places and that's just how life goes I wont apologize for saying the truth and wont let my kids be the ones that pay for what the librarians lied about It's not slander and it's no threat that I posted what I post is legal and legit because when I asked the cops and standing there that day asking everybody involved what happened Not 1 librarian stood up and said what happened not 1 librarian said they did anything bad Not 1 librarian said the kids were being loud Breaking the rules or misbehaving in any obsession matter That lead me to believe the librarians lied about the children the day they called the cops on them. So when my child goes to the library just to get out a librarian told him he couldn't be there because of what I posted about them. That is from what I seen going through the laws on line is illegal and you cant make an innocent child leave a place of business that a parent posted the truth about. I told my son if the librarian says anything just leave I dont want him in the middle of what I said about them. Dont get children involved with what you did These are kids that are looking to just play on the computer and be with the few friends they need to be around at the time away from home. Out of trouble like they should be You have a problem with what I right then I think you should think twice about calling the cops on innocent children because I'm there mom and will do what it takes to get my words out and protect my kids from any harm This post in copied and pasted for my other websites and will continue to be posted if my children are illegally harrassed again..

Unfortunately, you won't find much in the way of research material here. Literally just 6 stacks to browse. So small you don't need the card catalog to find a non fiction book.

This is such an incredibly cool space! I've been here to use…read morethe library, to attend performances, to participate in performances and attend special events in the event space. All of the experiences have been wonderful. The library portion is fantastic. A large kids section with friendly and helpful librarians, a great area (with a fireplace!) to relax, computers and an overall great selection of books. The music hall portion is wonderful as well. Seats are pretty comfortable with a decent amount of room and you can see well from basically anywhere in there. The backstage area has two large dressing rooms with lighted mirrors. The only downside is that there is fairly limited parking, so if you are attending an event, you need to get there early enough to grab a spot or hope for nearby street parking.

Built high on the hill, I am sure it witnessed a lot of Pittsburgh history. The kind staff allowed us to see the theater. It is very similar to Carnegie Library of Homestead. The lower level seats have been adopted and refurbished with nice padding. The Library is still raising funds to refurbish the seats on the 2nd floor. The fireplace on the main floor of the Library is enormous from floor to ceiling (at least 20 ft ceilings). The Civil War Nurses exhibit brought us to the library. Very enjoyable. We will be back to experience other events at the Library and theater. Ample parking during Library hours. Not sure enough parking onsite for theater events. Street parking available.
