When staying in Bass Lake we usually find a place to eat in Oakhurst. Maggie wanted to visit Pete's Place. We arrived at 10:50 am hoping to get breakfast. Their menu stated breakfast is served till 11am. We were told they stopped breakfast at 1040am today. I ordered the fish and chips with fried zucchini. The fried fish was coated in a crunchy beer batter. Fish was tender and moist except for some overcooked parts. Flavor was mostly of beer batter with a mild cod flavor. Good dish. Better than the frozen fish sticks from the supermarket. Fried zucchini was shaped like french fries. Batter was crunchy. I could barely taste the zucchini as there seemed to be more batter than zucchini. I prefer bigger pieces of zucchini and less batter. Ok dish. Fanta Pineapple soda was sweet and full of pineapple flavor. Very good. Server/Cashier was very nice and brought out our meals quickly. read more

My wife and I were staying in Oakhurst during our vacation and we were looking for a good burger. Pete's Place came up and we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is pretty big and spacious inside. Surprisingly it was empty on an early evening on a Monday. You order at the counter and then take your seat. I went with a Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of fries and a soft drink. It's decently priced for the area and the portion size, but unfortunately wasn't impressive or special in my opinion. It was just okay. You could fill up on this food, but I'm sure there's a better quality burger in town elsewhere. It wasn't horrible either though! read more

Great place to stop for a bite heading toward Yosemite. Keep a sharp eye on the right side as you pass the traffic light and round the bend. This is your old style burger joint with some added menu items. Most notably is a breakfast menu which features omelets, pancakes and other items. I came for a quick lunch. The new items was the smash burger which sounded good: sautéed onions mixed in the beef with cheese and 1000 island dressing plus the fixings. I went with the cheeseburger and it was plenty. The meal came with a big pile of onion rings of which maybe I ate a third. The food and service is great. The prices, especially for breakfast. The omelets are over $20! Also I did not see shakes /ice cream. read more

This place deserves 3.5/5 but if I had to choose between 3 or 4 star, it's closer to a 3. This is a no frills place for fried food that comes in generous portions. Our table got the smash burgers, onion rings, french fries, chicken tenders, and bacon avocado cheeseburger. Everything came in massive portions and was quick. The price also was very reasonable for the portions. That being said, we were overly hyped by some other reviews talking about their burgers being lifechanging but alas, they weren't for us. The chicken tenders were good, and the fries were fresh, but nothing that made me go O M G 5 STARS!!! All to say, if we were in Yosemite area and craving greasy food, this would be a top contender. I wouldn't make an effort to stop here though. Also, I did want to try their greek food but they were out of tsiziki by lunch hr (~1:30pm) which I found odd but oh wells. read more

I got the chicken gyro. Chicken portion was huge, sauce (tzatziki) and bread were ok. Overall it sucked. All you taste is just chicken and bread. There was no lettuce or feta cheese, there was barely any red onions and a bunch of tomato chunks. It was the most whitewashed blandest gyro I've ever tasted. The fries are just as bland, no salt or seasoning. Don't ever waste your money on these fries, order the onion rings instead. The customer service was great though. Really nice people. Food is cooked at order however, cold when called to pick it up and brought back to table. The order taker continued to cut me off when ordering food. Many tables were occupied by used dishes. Food: Bacon avocado cheeseburgers were delicious! Four of us ordered them and all were satisfied. Fries were hot & crispy, with the good ketchup pumps and big containers so you could dip to your heart's content. Tuna melt was also delicious--made fresh. The watermelon slushie was also . Casual atmosphere--we walked in off the trail and felt comfortable, along with some better dressed folks at other tables. Helps that the dining room is spacious and clean. Do you know what the most remarkable thing about this diner-style restaurant is? It has a drive-through!! Very basic menu items, but everything I saw passed by me looked delicious. I opted for the chicken fried steak with gravy on the side. It was perfectly fried, and the gravy had a perfect consistency and flavor. You order and pay at the counter, but they will bring the food out to you. The staff was very friendly, and their diner was full of locals. Date of visit: May 26, 2024 Order: Chicken Sandwich Combo with French Fries, 1/4 lb Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Rings Went here on the way out of Oakhurst Memorial Day weekend 2024 to grab lunch and immediately gave them brownie points in my mind coz I am a sucker for an old American diner style vibe, only the great part with Pete's, is that the staff is equally as courteous! Ordered a chicken sandwich with fries for my girlfriend and a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings for myself. The chicken sandwich was like what you'd expect a chicken sandwich to be -- nice, big filet, good spicy sauce, lightly toasted bun (I forget the veggies in there), all in all, a solid sandwich there. Moving on to the fries...now I realize a lot of this review is going to sound like I am exaggerating, but believe me, I ain't! The fries were a perfect golden blend of crisp, fried potato and JUST the right amount of salt -- not too less, not too much (which has been an all too common experience for me at basically every place lately). On to the main event: the Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Rings -- I will get the onion rings out of the way, and on the way, deduct a couple points on this one; while the rings themselves very pretty good, good amount of crisp, not dripping with oil, good ratio of breading to onion, they did feel a tad too salty, unsure if it was the rings themselves or the ranch that made them feel so, but just something to note. But, the burger itself, hands down THE BEST CHEESEBURGER I've had in my life -- absolutely perfectly cooked bacon, laying on top of the most succulent medium well patty, makes me want to quote Marshal Ericsson from that one episode of How I Met Your Mother: "Just a Burger? Just a burger. Robin, it's so much more than "just a burger." I mean... that first bite-oh, what heaven that first bite is. The bun, like a sesame freckled breast of an angel, resting gently on the ketchup and mustard below, flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux. And then... a pickle! The most playful little pickle! Then a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce and a... a patty of ground beef so exquisite, swirling in your mouth, breaking apart, and combining again in a fugue of sweets and savor so delightful. This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, Robin. This is God, speaking to us in food." To sum up, I don't know if it was the hospitality, the ambience, the fact that I was tired AF after driving ~900 miles in 2 days or Pete just landed the best burger chef's on the planet, I am surely going to recommend my next friends' trip be to Yosemite with a stay at Oakhurst just so I can grab myself a few more meals at Pete'e Place. FYI, Pete's been under new management for the past 3 years and I can't believe the change in prices and poor quality of food. I ordered a pastrami with fries and a drink for $22.00. Took one bite and found that I had two pieces of bread with a hint of mustard in my hands and a hunk of pastrami hanging out of my mouth resting on my chin; it was so tough you couldn't bite through it. Thought I was eating hunk of pastrami flavored rubber. My wife ordered the fish & chips. She ate 3 bites of the fish. The total price of both meals was $49.00, way over priced in my opinion. The best part of this place was exiting the door and heading to the 7-11 for a much more exquisite dining experience at a fraction of the cost. Come out of retirement Pete!! read more

I come here for 1 main reason, the zucchini fries. But every time whether it's 11:30am, 1:15pm, 2:30pm, or 4:25pm I get told the same thing "we're out, next time call" WTF!?! It's a side, why is it NEVER available ANYMORE!? I have come here for over thirty years this place recently changed hands, and for a couple weeks, they were almost on a par with the super successful local business they sought to keep intact.. I have given them multiple chances before writing this review. I will say they have a super cheerful gal in the drive-through. She is the only reason we have gone back because she keeps saying they're working on things. Well, after today, we're done. This is how they served our TO GO order . There is NO WAY they didn't know when they bagged this. We asked for extra ranch dressing and they have made their dressing containers so small that they are half the size of what they were ,so when we got these two huge orders of zucchini there was hardly enough for half an order....and NO EXTRA. Since our home is fifteen miles away, we could hardly turn around and go back. There is a reason this place was so popular and stayed in business for over thirty years. Whoever has taken over has doubled the batter and put in about half of the amount of zucchini. It is completely unseasoned, and the oil tastes old. For being a new business taking over the mountain areas crown jewelry, they seem to not have much of a care. DO BETTER. I could go on about the other times and other chances. Place used to be great, loved this little town and this was one of the best restaurants in town. Pete was amazing. He really dropped the ball on us by selling to this new owner. They promised us it would stay the same. It's not even a third the quality. Don't waste your time any longer. The food is grease filled lower quality and not good. I can say there is another of this current owners restaurants in Clovis and it is pretty good so I'm not sure why they fall short here, but they definitely do. read more

This place is very spacious inside and parking was really easy. The food was fresh, delicious, and homemade. They provided syrup and butter alongside our order, which I liked because I love butter! The service pretty really fast too. The bathroom was clean. The people were really friendly and I would definitely go back next time I am in the area. Ordered breakfast items: stay away from scrambled eggs especially unless you like mystery egg solution that tastes like styrofoam. Biscuit and gravy? No. Biscuit was cold and tastes store bought. Gravy was so clumpy and somehow slimy in texture. I usually don't like to give bad reviews but I wish I had checked Yelp before. The Pete's breakfast burrito used to be worth the almost $12 when it was Pete's Place but it's not since he sold out. There's just a few crumbs of sausage in it, making it flavorless and grossly overpriced. So if you want a burrito stuffed with inexpensive potatoes, a little cheese, scrambled eggs and of course the sausage CRUMBS this is what you'll get. read more

Before this was taken over by new owners this was a favorite spot for us to go. The staff were welcoming & remembered us & what we usually ordered. Since the new owners have taken over the prices have gone up & the food quality has gone WAY down. Twice now we have wanted to go for breakfast and they stopped serving it early. So even tho we made sure to be earlier than their usual end of breakfast time it didn't matter because they stopped service early. Sadly, we will no longer be frequenting this establishment anymore. Great small town diner to stop by for breakfast on the way to/from Yosemite. Breakfast burrito was huge! Get salsa on the side. Couldn't finish and had to take it to go. My partner ordered the breakfast sandwich and he only ate half of that too. Portions are large, or if you have a big appetite this is a good place to stop by. No frills, classic diner. We are locals and had started eating here over other places because the food was pretty good and the staff was pretty nice. Well tonight the nice young lady at the front counter had need replaced by a not so friendly young man. We placed our order and then I presented him with a 15 % off coupon I just received today by Email. The clerk refused to accept the coupon saying I needed the app and didn't have enough points. The coupon which included a QR code, only said, "Present this code at checkout the next time you're here, or save it in the Clover app" The app is optional and there is nothing stated about needing points for the coupon to be valid. In fact, tonight would have been the third time I've used a Clover coupon at Pete's. Anyway, the clerk, who claimed to be the owner but would not give his name, refused to do business with us. So . . . we left and had a fantastic meal, that cost $25 less, at Mariscos Colima. read more

Wow went here for the first time in years and damn what a shame. Food is all different and taste horrible. Waited 45 minutes for a breakfast burrito and bacon and eggs. Wish I would have got pictures but man the bacon is very gross looking. Disregard all the good reviews. Evidently there is new ownership and the place is not what we were led to believe by Yelp reviews. No milkshakes or ice cream- no ice cream machine. Can't order breakfast ( only 4 items on the menu) after 11:00 am. The counter employee told us the biscuits and gravy wasn't good anymore anyway. They were out of order had discontinued half the menu. 3 of us shared an order of fried zucchini and left quickly. Skip it!! read more
