The living ones are skinny and sickly looking, and I'm almost certain that they have parasites. Anyways, treating animals like this is really quite disgusting and also speaks volumes about how they view their animals- as commodities. Don't expect your pet from here to live very long! My parents also purchased a very expensive fish pond pump with a warranty of 3 years. It had been 1 year and 3 months when a part of it had broken off, and our whole tank had turned green. Instead of honouring their 3 year warranty, the owner asked my mother if she had gotten the green water lab tested and accused her of breaking the pump herself. What a ridiculous claim! The owner, Paul, is rude, condescending, and possibly a misogynistic racist. The way that he treated my mother in front of other customers is absolutely ridiculous in 2021 and I will ensure that I contact every animal regulations and customer service platform I can. That's no way to treat any female customer. Disgusting. Don't go here if you want any respect! Would rate 0 stars if possible.

If you're out hunting for puppies, this is not the place for you. Should you be after fish, then you are most certainly in luck. There are species here I have never seen elsewhere, including lion fish and rainbow wrasse. Similarly, there is an impressive selection of birds, and if you walk down the back of the show, there are some wild/escaped/pet ones hanging out with their cages brethren. They also sell vermin, rodents, and similar mammals, including things that hop. The highlight for me was having a custom made fish tank that came in to be well under half the price of an off the shelf factory-made one of smaller size. The service is relaxed and friendly, with the staff happy to shoot the breeze. I get chook feed here (no chooks for sale), and there is all manner of other feed/litter by the 20kg sack.

The plants are STILL looking great and growing strong. We recently bought more tetras and the staff here are knowledgeable, know their fish species, give great advice and the display aquariums always look clean and the fish, healthy. They're one of the only pet food shops we've been to in Melbourne, and we've been to many, that carries the oft sought/seldom found grain-free wet cat food. (Which is good for your carnivorous feline friends! Unless advised otherwise by your vet. I am not a professional.) They have litter trays big enough for the discerning, plus-sized feline, but their scratching posts are more suited for kittens and not larger breeds like Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats or our dainty lass. We also bought a de-shedding comb for our medium/long-haired cat that works WONDERS. I'm pretty sure I brushed out another cat from her coat! Tip: Sign up to their loyalty program. Sometimes they do vouchers and there's usually a special on. They'll email letting you know what they are, but they're not so frequent in volume that they're annoying. They've always been open and honest with us about the products we buy, including animals that have health or behavioural issues (eg, fish who are more aggressive than normal for their specie and need to be kept alone, or products that are damaged or missing pieces). This store also always been really good with replacing faulty products, including ones that have come damaged from the online warehouse or from other Petbarn stores!

It's really set up fantastically and even though I haven't owned fish since my childhood, I get compelled to have a walk through their little aquarium and constantly get amazed looking at all the different types of fishes they have swimming around. It is important for the store to have a lot of supplies and they do for all types of strange pets like lizards and ferrets but when I had a cat (poor thing got run over) and went there he would be spoiled like a child at Christmas.
