We are attending Pet Smart on Merivale for dog training. Our trainer has been frequently condescending and inappropriate with his behaviour. He starts off acting nicely, but if you mishear him or misunderstand something, he is gets quite nasty. I recommend that he gets some training for dealing with human beings. Another person than myself would have reacted very angrily for being treated so poorly. I spoke with the other people at the training session and they are in agreement with me. I will not be recommending the training here any more and am also considering patronizing a different store. read more

We took our dog for bath and brush, they haven't even washed nor touched his face. When we complained to the bather they said there are wipes we could buy to clean his face. Why then pay for service when they ask us to do it ourselves? We requested to talk to a manager and left our contact information. Never got a call. Horrible service read more

Theres not many retail stores that allows pets/animals indoors, so I love bringing my dog here to interact with other animals that are there with their owners shopping. I usually go there for grooming, which is fantastic at this location (only one mix up previously but it was solved), which keeps me coming back to Petsmart. This is one of the smaller stores, so it can be hard to maneauver around the store when it is busy, or if someone is getting their dog trained. (There was a couple who was training two dogs on my last visit down the aisles of the store, so I was trying to shop around them and not get in their way). The selection for dogs/puppies is smaller, especially when you compare this store to the other Petsmart down the road next to Costco, but I always leave with a new toy/treat regardless. read more

A very rude PetSmart salon manager at this store at Emerald Plaza in Ottawa reduced my daughter to tears with his rude behaviour and unprofessional attitude when she went to pick up our dog. We have been taking our dog to PetSmart for 9 years. No more PetSmart for us. read more

Being a puppy mother, I've visited most of the pet stores in Ottawa, and though supporting smaller businesses is always my first choice, sometimes I can't avoid th allure of a good Petsmart. This was the first place we stopped when getting ready to bring home our little bundle of fur, so I guess ti has a special spot in our hearts. It's not as big as the massive Petsmart down Merivale closer to Hunt Club, but this one has everything you could need, including a groomer, pet training and the usually toys and food selection. I always have an excellent experience when I come here. I appreciate being able to bring Finn in with me, and he loves meeting new friends. The staff are incredibly helpful, always helping me find whatever I'm looking for super-quick, whether it's a new brand of food, or cleaner. The groomers are fantastic. Finn has issues getting his nails clipped (super corgi diva), and looses his mind whenever someone makes a move for his paws. Somehow, these ladies always keep him calm and make it a little less painful of an experience to watch. They're very quick and super affectionate. The only reason I hesitate to give this location five stars is that I wasn't especially happy with their training courses. We only lasted a few sessions because we felt like products were constantly being pushed on us, and that it was more about selling us products than training out dogs. Our trainer was friendly and sweet, but I'd rather take Finn somewhere with less sales pressure. Bonus? Any cats or kittens here are from the SPCA or Humane Society. If you're ever considering buying a pet from a store, make sure you check where they're coming from! read more

Just like Andrea, I like to support smaller businesses. However, there are times when the independent stores don't have the things you need, especially if you own a smaller dog. There have been a few times when I have tried to buy items for my small dog in the independent stores and have not been able to find anything appropriate. Luckily, PetSmart, being a large chain store, has a good selection of items for small dogs. There are also plenty of choices for grooming, training, toys, food, and other pet related supplies. The other great thing is that you can also try some things out. For example, because our dog is so small, we were able to try on some times to make sure that they fit properly. It is clear that the people who work at PetSmart care about animals. The ones I spoke with at this location are very willing to help and knowledgeable. The folks who do the grooming appear to be great with animals. The animals appear to be calm and well treated. Oh and you definitely can bring your dog into the store. There are stations located around the store in case of "accidents". If you join the PetSmart PetPerks program (free), you can get discounts on items. Plus we were told that being part of the Perks program, they will notify you if there is a recall on an item you purchased. Love that. It's nice to know that I don't have to worry too much about supplies being harmful for my dog. If you want to get your dog groomed/nails trimmed, you need to bring in paperwork that shows your dog has up-to-date immunizations when you register for the first time. Obviously this makes sense and I'm happy that PetSmart does this. This is the only PetSmart I've been to, and what I'm reading from other posters is that this location is on the smaller end. This store is pretty big so it's going to be interesting when I check out a different location. read more

I really like the staff at this location because they are all very knowledgeable and personable. They always seem genuinely interested in my pets and are always willing to take the time to answer any questions I have. Today I was helped with a very troubling cricket related issue but with their help found a solution. My only complaint about this location is that they often have enclosures marked as reserved and go for long stretches without certain pets that I might get if I knew they regularly got as this would make me more confident in their ability to answer questions about them. Also, and this is more of a comment on all PetSmarts and not just this location, but why sell Chinese Water Dragons if you don;t sell enclosures big enough for them. I would get a Chinese Water Dragon if I could get everything I needed in one stop. read more

I love this location. It's recently renovated and full of services. The staff are super friendly and like to chat with customers. They have little furry pets as well as fish, birds, lizards, snakes etc. But my favourite feature is of course the adoptables! Cats and dogs that need a forever home! I honestly want to take all of them home! They also frequently have non cat/dog critters like bunnies or guinea pigs. Great location overall. The staff all seems to be cross trained and can answer any question you have. read more

I take my Chihuahua here for her nail trim and have never had any issue with the grooming, and I can pretty much drop in at anytime. The only issue I have had is that at times it is difficult to find someone who works there to help, not enough employees on the floor but I continue to shop there. read more

I used to go to this petsmart for everything. They always have had what I needed. Over the past 2 months no matter what day or time I go in they NEVER have super worms for my beardie. I've spent hundreds of dollars on their horn worms to feed her (they are almost $2 a piece). Every time I go in and ask when they are getting any in they say their shipment comes in on Tuesday. But they NEVER get any in. I understand that with covid shipping takes longer but this is ridiculous people still need to feed their pets without breaking their bank account. I will no longer be giving ANY petsmart my business I have found a private dealer to get my worms from. Very disappointed you have lost a very loyal customer. read more

I have been bringing my dog to this location for grooming since moving to Ottawa over two years ago. Leah is the best groomer, she treats my pup like one of her own and my dog will always get excited to go see her! Leah deserves an award for how great she is to all dogs! read more

I was going to visit a friend who has a dog I never met so I stopped in to buy her a treat to help to make my introduction a positive one. I was not aware of her dietary needs so was looking for one or two milk bone style treats. Unfortunately, they do not sell them, but the guy at the cash offered me a couple of the treats they reserve in the bin for their guest dogs. He didn't even charge me. I was thrilled and they made my introduction to Grace a positive one. Thank you pet smart. I will stop in again and purchase something next time as I now know her likes. read more

Went to go purchase a slip color and lead and one of the sales clerks was organizing them, but also sitting right in front of where I was trying to look. She did not ask if I needed any help, or what I was looking for, just kept going on with her business. We regularly take our two large dogs to this location to get their nails trimmed. One of our dogs is older and has mobility issues. They are able to graciously accommodate and keep him safe and comfortable while he gets his nails done. Everyone we've dealt with has been friendly, professional and helpful. We've never had our dogs (rough collies) groomed there, but the nail-trim prices are reasonable and the groomers seem competent and comfortable around big dogs. read more

Dealt with an extremely difficult and rude groomer, Kayla, at this location. Snarky with a "know it all" attitude. I had to file a formal complaint with the store manager when she refused to delete a picture she had taken on her personal phone of my dog, without my consent. NOT PetSmart policy. I am a PetSmart customer for over 10 years with 3 dogs. This is the first time I have encountered, such an unprofessional groomer at PetSmart. read more

Extremely disappointed with customer service provided by Paul, the trainer at this location. He was very rude and implied that we aren't "doing things right" with our dog, when we've have 3 perfectly well behaved and healthy dogs before. We have chosen not to train at PetSmart since it really didn't help at all with our first two dogs. He was really pushy and rude to us, definitely won't be coming back to this location where this creep can approach and scold us for not wanting to take part in their training classes.
