The original Romanesque Church erected around 1000, with a later gothic vault, still forms the core of the building, upon which Anton Landes (1712-1764) lavished the beautiful stucco decoration we see today. The church is closed except for services, but Landes' work clan be seen through the protective grill. In the main church the style is white, highlighted with gold leaf, which gets more elaborate the closer it gets to the high altar. The walls and ceilings have fresco panels depicting biblical stories and the lives of saints. The side chapel is open for prayer and decorated in white, pink and gold, the overall impression reminding one of icing on a wedding cake.

It was always great to explore the marvelous pictures and golden sculptures. The Old Chapel is not as impressive as the Cathedral St. Peter, which is not far from here but it is at least as beautiful as it. If you will visit the Cathedral you should really visit the Old Chapel as well because it's just a way of 100-200 metres and it's really worth it! It's really a must see!

Founded as part of the Collegiate Abbey of St. John in 1127, and dedicated to both St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, the present building is the third in the site. The original Church was removed to make way for the western extension of the Cathedral, and a Gothic Church was built on the present site. This was remodelled in the baroque style in the 1760s but was destroyed by fire in 1887. It was reconstructed in a restrained neo-baroque style and reconsecrated in 1890. The present Church has a single nave and sanctuary without any internal division: the high altar has a painting of the baptism of Christ by Johann Nepomuk Schöpf (1769).

Very beautiful, light, late gothic church, which is worth taking some time for sightseeing or even…read morea guided visit. As the City of Landshut was not hit by allied bombs in WWII, the church is entirely and originally old besides the common rehabilitations and renovations. One can't eventually tell it from looking at it, but it truely is the highest brick-church-tower on earth. This is not the only reason why it is a pity that one cannot climb the tower, because the inner roof structure and the belfry are very beautiyful as well. Fortunately the Burg Trausnitz only some meters distant offers the longed for sight over the historic city and the hinterland at same level. As well beautiful and always a welcome relief from shopping in the city are the organ recitals that take place in St. Martin every saturday just before noon for free!

The Christmas market was also the only one we had to pay to get into in the dozens of markets we visited. This was my favorite market though. The decor, the quieter pace, they have cabins on site you can rent, vendors on site. The place was absolutely magical and a must see while in Germany.

The church is 104 Feet high and 114 Feet wide. This historical church was completed in 1520. We toured the interior, which was free of charge. The most impressive thing of all were the gorgeous stain glass windows throughout. The colors were so vivid, my photos don't do them justice. I am always struck by the sheer feeling of peace and holiness inside churches. The church is magnificent and I wish I could hear the organ ( HUGE- see photo). With everything going on in our world right now, I appreciated the opportunity for some time for reflection and tranquillity

It is a landmark for the city of Regensburg, and the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Regensburg. The structure is considered the most significant Gothic work in southern Germany. This impressively preserved church is notable for its two 105-meter-high spires. Its spacious interior is of great beauty, and its most notable feature being its superb 13th- and 14th-century stained glass windows. Therefore, it's recommended as the top attraction to visit in Regensburg. You will not be disappointed for sure. The original church called Niedermünster, which was built west of where the current cathedral stands, was built around the year 700. That fact itself is amazing, but unfortunately it was burned down in 1273. The new one was built in 1280 with an incorporation of French Gothic architectural themes. By 1320, the three choirs of this cathedral were ready for use, and between 1385 and 1415 the main entrance to the West was completed. Most of edifice was finished around the year 1520, and this was also the opening year for the cathedral. It's amazing to be able to sit in this historical cathedral and imagine how the worship service was like with its great choir and organ vibrating through this massive structure. That's one of the reasons I like to visit these cathedrals.
