Nice little joint, nice owner/server, solid food. Owner is Laotian and not talkative, but nice. Drunken Wide Noodle - more ketchupy than savory. Still on the hunt for the best drunken noodles in Wisconsin. Not here. Pho Cleared the plate. I love that they're staying traditional and didn't add sugar. So many pho places are adding sugar now and the broth is sweet. Here, it was good. But it wasn't the traditional Vietnamese pho, and there were no meat choices to be made - it just comes standard with beef and meatballs. I could do without the meatballs. I went in wanting to get pho, so I didn't try anything else, but I'd love to revisit and try their other more Laotian fares. read more

When you first walk in, the ambiance here is really comfortable and nice, with the server being really friendly and soft spoken. When you get your waters, there is a little flower on the top made with the straw wrapper, which is a really nice touch. I had the Tamarind Duck as my main course, and the Thai Egg Rolls as our appetizer. The Thai Egg Rolls are very nice and homemade. The Tamarind duck is very tasty and the soup base is something that I highly recommend to mix with the bowl of jasmine rice they give you. Great Lao food! Happened to see this spot on the way to the farmers market. Lao sausage is now one of our favorites. Papaya salad and beef larb are both tasty and spicy. Very clean restaurant. We'll definitely be making the trip here again to try other dishes. read more

We stopped by right before closing and noticed the place was pretty empty, so we weren't sure what to expect--but it turned out to be a great experience! We ordered a Thai curry, and it had that rich, authentic flavor you'd expect from a good Thai restaurant. We also tried the pho, and it was a bit different from other Vietnamese places--it came with meatballs and sliced meat, but the broth and other ingredients were quite similar to traditional pho. Still tasty! What really stood out was the thoughtful service. The server made sure the top of the straw stayed clean before handing it over--such a small detail, but it really showed how attentive they are. Cute ambiance and friendly family operating the place. Pha Khao was on the way home and just what I was looking for. They had one Pho option. I was slightly apprehensive because of this but it turned out to be excellent and came with all the condiments; Thai basil, sprouts, lime, etc.. it was exactly what I needed. Prices were good too! First time here and I have mixed ratings. What I thought was good would be the crab Rangoon, Panang curry, chicken satay and the chicken laarb was decent. Mother in law liked the pad see ewe. I'm only in my hometown of Kenosha a few days out of the year around xmas. I spotted a new Thai-Lao place, so I had to check it out. I got the Golf [sic] of Thailand and it was fantastic. My only gripe was they were a bit stingy on the seafood, however, because the price was quite low for the ingredients, I'm not holding it against them. I got the 10/10 spice level and they delievered. I used to go to a place called Vientiane (now closed) in Madison frequently, maybe 10 years ago, and this is the only place that is almost as good as that place was. read more

This is our second visit to Pha Khao: this time, my husband and I brought friends. They enjoyed noticing the details we'd told them about: the wall hangings, the flowers on each table, the real cloth table covers protected by a sapphire blue plastic throw, and woven wood placemats. The place is small, cozy, with eight tables and additional seating at the bar. An older Asian gentleman served water in glass goblets with straws that were topped with small white roses folded from their paper tubes, and menus. We gave him our drink orders, and talked for a few minutes until a young Asian server arrived and asked if we'd decided on our entrees. Our friends chose Drunken Wide Noodles and the duck dish; my husband ordered Lao Sausage, and I decided on the Spicy Chicken. It didn't take long for our food to arrive, and we had some difficulty fitting all the steaming dishes on the table. After tasting, we all agreed that our dinners were very good. Our friend who ordered the duck declared it "delicious". Three of us packed up leftovers; the Lao Sausage satisfies a hungry person, my husband left nothing on his plate. He declared he wanted to finish the meal with a Pha Khao Dessert, featuring two small scoops of ice cream with chocolate drizzle atop sticky rice, accompanied by slices of ripe mango and rolled wafers. Our friends ordered another to share. It was an excellent ending to a satisfying dinner. We noticed as we ate that this restaurant is a good place for take-outs: a half-dozen folks of all ages and ethnicities picked up dinners. The food here is great! I've been hoping for a delicious Asian restaurant in Kenosha and they did not disappoint. They make your food not spicy, but when I asked the owner he said that it can range from 0-3 (which i wish I knew before ordering). It is always a joy to read about a new Asian restaurant in Wisconsin. I happened to be in the neighborhood and was pining for some Thai. I have had little in the way of success finding quality Thai food in the midwest as a whole, let alone up here in Germanic Wisconsin. The best place for Thai is absolutely up in Appleton at Thai Ginger Bistro. This is nearly like eating in Thailand. Pha Khao is good, but not in the same league. It was actually better than nearly every MKE place (no, I haven't tried Room Service yet). It's in a small strip mall consisting of three places on a busy street in Kenosha. The ambience is far nicer than the surrounding neighborhood. I found the service excellent, friendly, and willing to help me sift through what was vegetarian and what wasn't. The fresh spring rolls were good. The mint leaf is a must and many places forget it. The peanut sauce was alright, but not my favorite. I had red curry with tofu, carrot and peppers. This was rather good; not watery, like so many places, but not spicy like being up the jungles near the Thai, Laotian border. Pha Khao most likely caters to the local non-spicy crowd. Next time, it is up to me to ask. All in all, I was happy with the meal, the prices were very reasonable and the place was clean. I would go back. read more

Great spot for Thai here in my hometown. Tried the Shrimp Paradise and loved it - perfect balance of sweet pineapple and curry seasoning. Even with one person working the whole FOH, the service was speedy and our orders came out fresh. That space is a little cramped however, perhaps if the seating was a little more modular it would feel more spacious. However I understand it was turned over to them from the previous restaurant owners. I was honestly a little bummed when the previous restaurant (Italian) that was in this space went out of business, but Pha Khao is certainly a worthy replacement. Can't wait to go back. read more

If you want actually GOOD Thai food anywhere near Kenosha, this is the place to go. We've tried Sticky Rice and Krung Thai in Racine, but both of them are BLAND. When I get Thai food, I want it to have flavor. Pimmy's is a massive disappointment with watery sauce that they still somehow don't give enough of, mushy noodles, and bonkers flavor profiles. Pha Khao was delicious and affordable, and the only reason I won't give it 5 stars is their $11 Mai Tai is NOT a Mai Tai. A Mai Tai is rum, orgeat, lime, orange liqueur, and mint. A Mai Tai is NOT orange juice, pineapple juice, and rum. read more

The vibe is nice, the service was wonderful. The food was mid. I just thought the flavor would be more robust. The menu elaborated on ingredients and the descriptions just sound soo amazing! The food arrived and it looked nice. It just wasn't flavorful. The steam mussels were literally steamed mussels in water. We were told the "sauce" was so delicious but it had No flavor. We had some seafood dish again so pretty but was very bland. The noodles looked like slop on my plate but it had more flavor than anything else we had. The spring rolls were good but there is another place local that I LOVE them from. I think it's their sauce. I wish I had great things to say. I wouldn't be opposed to going back to give it another try because the people were very nice. read more

My family and I ate here on a whim while driving from Chicago to Milwaukee. The restaurant immediately reminded me of a place I would go to in Southeast Asia -- family-run business, home-cooked food.
