It was a little difficult to find a parking garage to accommodate the 8 foot high vehicle that he drove to Richmond. I'm sure there's probably some around the campus but we did not see any on Broad Street. There was plenty of shops and public transportation. Even though it wasn't extremely warm it seemed fairly busy with students and people who lived in the city.

The course went through different neighborhoods so it was more challenging than running straight down a street and back up. But it was more motivating seeing different homes and streets. They had less a handful of food trucks, they set up 3 different performance stages, they had chairs and tables, they had many many many tables this year. I'm proud of having seen this thing grow. Hopefully, they'll bring back the time chip next year. I liked knowing my mile tome, but I wanna know my 5K time too. Bring it back! A lot of VCU Police presence kept a couple of drunk guys at bay, and traffic wasn't bad at all. Overall, could always improve, but 4 stars considering this event is still at the toddler stage! Come back next year, please!

Yeah, the Confederacy thing is still kind of weird in the United States. Here we are celebrating…read morepeople who were basically traitors to their country. Yes, they believed that the United States was attacking their way of life and so they sought to leave the country. Jefferson Finis Davis was the first and only President of the Confederate States of America. He is laid to rest in nearby Hollywood Cemetery. But here on Monument Avenue is this massive structure to the man. Davis was a member of the Democratic Party and represented was one of the United States Senators and Representatives from Mississippi. He had been US Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce from 1853 to 1857. He served as a lieutenant in the US Army during the Mexican-American War (186-1848). Davis argued against secession in 1858 but believed that states had the right to leave the Union. The monument's design has a central 60 foot tall granite column topped by a female figure in bronze. An eight-foot tall bronze statue of Jefferson Davis with his right arm outstretched and his left hand resting on an open book. At the bottom of the column above Davis's head contains the seal of the Confederacy. There are thirteen columns representing the eleven states that seceded and the two (Missouri and Kentucky) that sent delegates to the Confederate Congress but did not secede. It's history. It's all fine and dandy, but I'll be the first to tell you, nothing can beat a fine batch of 98% sulfuric acid. The folks at Veolia are true masters of the craft, and this is the best contact process acid money can buy, with none of that nasty lead taste that comes with cheap tower acid. Literally, you can feel the atmosphere as soon as you walk past the fences and warning signs, slowly eating away at your skin. That's not even to mention the heavy industrial noise which provides a soothing background to the culinary delights within. As for the flavor? I think the legendary Dr. R. S. Shallenberger put it best. "Persons who have drawn concentrated sulfuric acid into a pipet with oral suction, and obtained the acid on the tongue through poor technique, report that it tastes sweet before the onset of corrosive action." It's very charming with tons of shops and old buildings with storefronts inside. I love all the restaurants including Mellow Mushroom, The Daily, Carytown Cupcakes, CanCan and tons of others. There is thai food, indian, fast food, etc. You name it, it's here. Plenty of antique and consignment shops also sell eclectic and vintage clothing and beautiful dresses. I've found some gorgeous and unique home decor items here as well. It's a must stop when I'm in town. Walking along the streets is fun and parking is fairly easy with the public access lots just off the main street. There is also a lot of street parking. It can get crowded on weekends and special days but it's worth it to be able to walk around.

The ball, no matter how heavy, can then be moved on the liquid surface as though it weighs nothing at all. When I stopped by at 7:30 AM, the ball wasn't moving. A few strong pushes (it DOES way 27 tons) and it was on its way, spinning in a circle on top of the water. Very, very cool. The Grand Kugel is the largest construction of its kind in the world. I wish I could do a page for each and everyone, but that would be a full time job. You will find concentrations of them in an area by the canal and near the downtown restaurants. I wish I could pick a favorite or two, but they are also so good. I recommend spending a half day to a day on a public art tour. The downtown area is rich with art and I believe that you will throughly enjoy it.

We've gone several years and look forward to it every year. It's a small festival in a neighborhood…read moresetting and the crowd is pretty chill, so it's great for families. The food is fantastic - especially if you're an oyster fanatic (like me). They have Rappahannock oysters served raw, steamed, fried, and in oyster po' boys. There are brats, fries, hushpuppies, and a hot dog kids meal (for those who don't partake). Speaking of kids, there's a fenced area with bounce houses and slides so my kids spent most of the day wearing themselves out which works out great for me. There's also a bike valet area, so a good number of people ride there, check their bike in, and avoid having to find parking. There's a good variety of craft beer, macro beer, wine, and water/sodas - so pretty much something for everyone. The music varies - usually they have bluegrass early in the day, then it gets more rock and roll later on.

There was ample parking in a parking area of another church don the street, street parking availability (although there was some terrible street parking going on, nose to nose instead of nose to tail.. ), and more parking across the street. Sidewalks made it easoer for people to walk over, families came together, friends met up. Admission is free but a siggested $2.00 was given to the food bank's fund. I went and got 20 tickets, a dollar a piece. I immediately went to the oyster tent and ordered a dozen steamed oysters. Succulent and fresh, it was perfection as it melted in my mouth. Children played in leaf piles and moon bounces, there were beer tents throughout, a love music crew who looked pretty young but were rockin' out the crowd like a boss. Another good thing coming to many festivals recently is the ability use your credit card to purchase either items or tickets. This festival also provided bike valet!! Inside a huge tent, ample ample tables and chairs set up for people to sit and eat and more tables and chairs under the sun. A lot of people brought their pets. Joy and laughter, much eating and definitely full bellies made this event a 5 star event! Can't wait fo next year!
