I confused the PICC with the CCP! I was raring to go, expecting supposed ghosts rattling their chains at me.
The last time I was in PICC (alright, also my first), I was in a barong. To put this into perspective for you, I have worn barongs exactly seven times in my life, and only twice as a grown-ass man.
I was expecting this place to be stuffy, dim and characteristic of brutalism (the architectural style), all dark gray, sooty slabs. I was met, instead, with a pleasantly green surrounding, with a maintained grounds area, and a charming vibe mostly from the 90's. Inside the building are facilities that frankly outdid my expectations; yes, it's all wood tile floors and yellow lights, but it's also juxtaposed by modern amenities and a first-rate cafeteria. There is nowhere you'll go here that you won't be politely greeted by one of the two variety of guards (sweaty and non-sweaty, depending on where they are posted), so I guess in a way, this place is actually emblematic of the official Filipino hospitality as interpreted by the state; a silver age of Filipiniana, if you will. read more
