We love their baby back ribs, their fries, and their wonderful onion rings. we also a big fan of their coleslaw and beans. We usually get a whole rack rib dinners but their chicken dinners are also delicious cooked delectably. We love their sweet and spicy barbecue sauce and purchase this for our home barbecuing . For the first time, I got their rib tickler and it was just right for myself, and I love that it included the onion rings . If you need dessert after all of this Moon pies are yummy... I was so happy to be right next to my gate: 45. I watched every last move and was able to relax at my table and finish my entire caesar salad with BBQ Chicken. It was not my best salad of my life, but not my worst either! The entrees were thereabouts of $17. I did ask the employee what the best protein choice was and he said protein (which was not the most expensive, he would have said something else just to make more money.) A half rack is great for two but if you're extra hungry I'd recommend a full rack! Really nice experience. I am used to Famous Dave's BBQ and wasn't really impressed with Phil before, but this last visit was totally different! There was a line but moved quite quickly, and the stafff, from the greeters to the register girl and the servers walking around were fantastic. I had the beef Ribs and were bomb along with the potato salad, beans and corn bread. Not a bad deal for the price and even the cleanup crew made the experience very welcoming! They advertise it as half a lb but I have a hard time thinking those two things patties added up to anything close to 8 ozs. Processed cheese slices and a fried onion ring on top and that was it. They offer one side and was fried frozen French fries. Meh. Nothing special and the bbq sauce option was apparently just whatever they poured in a small cup for me to use. I suppose it's a step up from McD's but at least a 5 Guys would have been juicy and included real toppings !? And so it goes. Seems like they sell many burgers here. Unfortunately, this location doesn't even smell the same as the main location! No BBQ flavors at all. To no surprise, this location is more expensive as well. About $1-$3 surcharge. I ended up getting their giant pretzel. It was really good! The dipping cheese came from a machine but at least it was nice and warm. No issues with the pretzel but I'm not able to compare it to their regular location as this is my first pretzel from them. Alex! She is amazing! So nice and always made sure our drinks were full! She also made one mean margarita too! I've had Phil's BBQ many times, but never at the airport. This was my first time flying out of SAN and I was curious if this location is up to snuff, especially since established restaurants usually get nerfed with airport locations. I'm happy to report the answer is a resounding yes. I went with a half rack of ribs, cole slaw and fries, which is my usual order. Everything is as I remember it, down to the crispiness of the fries and the slight char of the ribs. Do allow some time for your order, so you have time to enjoy before your flight.
