I am giving Pho Craze a five star review. Pho Craze surely has plenty of people dinning inside. Coming here for lunch there are no tables available even the outside dinning. Pho Craze has done great business since they open in 2020. Being in the side of a shopping center that use to have Kmart nearby Pho Craze still has people dinning inside. Even the parking spaces are filled with car. Lately I been having Grilled Pork Banh Mi Sandwich. The bread isn't too hard and I was able to finish every bite of the sandwich. Came here on a Saturday night and it was packed. That's always a good sign. Been to this plaza many times on East side of Lucky's - had no idea a gem was hiding here. Sat down and ordered. During the wait, went to use the restrooms and they had "out of order" signs posted. Asked the staff and they were ok to use - weird, but maybe they're having issues with non-customers. Food was very tasty. Specifically, the meat quality in both the Bun Bo Hue and the Pho Craze Special were excellent - tender, fresh. Soup bases were ok. The Bun Bo Hue soup had a lot of back of the throat heat and not much depth of flavor. Our one non-soup entree was the pork chop with rice combo. Pork chop was seasoned well and very tender. I was in town for a work training and ended up coming here for lunch with my coworkers. Actually, one of them recommended this spot as she had been there before. We arrived just before 12 and there were a few tables open. I ended up ordering the shaking cube beef with garlic rice. The dish came with pickled carrots and daikon, with a side of salt/pepper and lime. The beef was very tender and cooked well. I thought it was seasoned just right, even without the salt/pepper. The pickled carrots and daikon tasted crisp and fresh, cutting through the fattiness and oil of the dish. The dish came with a lot of rice and compliments the meat well. I do wish there was more of a garlic taste in the rice and that there was more beef, as the meat portion seemed smaller. Staff was very nice and prompt with service, even with 2 people coming in late. The restaurant is spacious and was getting packed towards the middle of our meal. I've basically been here too many times and tried so many things! Just highlighting my recent meals, the cha lua banh mi and the seafood fried rice. For the longest time, I've been preaching this spot in El Cerrito for the best banh mi in the East Bay. Now, Pho Craze took the spot. I always refuse to eat banh mi in a pho restaurant because of the price but I had nothing to lose since the price is the same elsewhere now. I can definitely say the bread is a lot more bouncier and fresher which was the biggest winning factor for me. Overall, it's good. If you don't want to drive to Kevin Noodle House at WC, this is a good alternative. Broth is always piping hot but is sweet. Noodle portion is good but not a fan of it. It must be the brand? Is not translucent but not over cooked, so that's a good thing. The difference between a medium bowl and a large bowl is only $1 but honestly, I can't tell portion wise of there is a difference - it must be the amount of meat. Rice plate is good. All the workers here are great. This is my frequently visited Vietnamese restaurant in daily life. Love most of the food on the menu. I in particularly like their Vietnamese pancake (bun xeo) and spicy beef noodle soup (bun bo hue) and lemon grass tofu over vermicelli. Rude and condescending person that I order my food. He got upset because I mentioned repeatedly what I asked for and it's all miscommunication but ended providing food that is disgusted and bland. I am not sure if he added something in my food that I am not aware off. When I receive my food compare the regular I order for myself was bland and basic. The food from other order I made was normal like I used too. Shrimps was given tiniest, hard and burnt. I didn't get the roll which supposed to be in the order combo. My order for myself was placed all the way to bottom so I won't see it until I got home. This person is malicious because of miscommunication and taking it out his frustrations on me. Pho craze is very good for their prices, and is my go to Vietnamese restaurant in Pinole. The restaurant space is big with lots of seating, and service is also super quick here. Some items I've tried: - pho tai: can't go wrong with this dish. The noodles were great. Soup was standard- which is good because that means it was nice and flavorful, and the meat wasn't fully cooked when it arrived to the table which is PERFECT so it wasn't overcooked by the time it entered my mouth. - banh mi (pork loaf and pate): their banh mis are ok here but definitely not the best I've had. Bread to filling ratio is slightly off, and I wish they put more meat into the banh mis. The pate was extremely good though. - other items I tried: shrimp spring rolls- decent. Beef Carpaccio- super good, they give you lots of raw beef on the plate and I couldn't finish it all. Pho Craze is pretty good and decent. I'm way behind on my reviews....PHO REAL! But I wanted to give a shout out to this place since we've been coming and dining here since the pandemic. It's also fed us a few times when we didn't have enough time to cook dinner and picked-up some delicious and fulfilling Vietnamese cuisines on the go. Their Pho is solid; their Beef Carpaccio is tangy; their Spring Rolls are fresh, and their service (should you dine-in) is more than satisfactory. They also offer Banh-Mi's here but have yet to try and order 'em. Perhaps I'll give my 0.02 cents in the future when I do decide to try some. The Pho broths are beef and chicken based and are both flavorful and satisfying. You can choose egg noodles, rice noodles, clear noodles or ho fun. How fun! We arrived a little after opening at 11, and there were already lots of customers! The beef and onion spring rolls were really good--the peanut sauce creamy and not too salty, the beef with a nice grilled flavor to it, and a little crunch (I think from some deep fried onion in the middle?). Those were 5/5 and I haven't had them at other pho places before. The pho itself was standard, solid. Broth could've been a bit more flavorful and the noodles were a bit soft (over cooked). The pho chay (veggie pho) was okay. It definitely didn't taste like pho though, it was lacking in flavor and tasted kind of like a bullion cube was used, just a moderate salty flavor and nothing else. The upside was the food came out fast, easy parking, and plenty of veggies and noodles. I am the type of person who loves the actual broth though, I'm not just there for the toppings. They forgot the tofu and brought out about 4-5 pieces of small, dense tofu for me to add to my soup. I think typically they fry the pieces from other pics on Yelp, but not in my case. I will try the bahn mi next time and see how that is. I did see for the table next to me it was a bit disorganized and food came out at completely different times, etc. Paying at the counter may mean you have to wait in line for a while after you're done eating, not a huge deal though. I guess all the good Pho names were taken. Pho Craze? I think I would've been more drawn to a place called Pho the Love of Giblets. I loves me some liver and gizzards, too. Alas, there were no giblets to be found here though as I perused the menu quickly. I recognized the name from the GrubHub app, so the name did stick in my head despite my aversion. It's in a busy shopping center off Fitzgerald Drive, and I decided to pick up a bowl of their pho to take home to slurp. While talking to friend while driving home, she said "Bad me", but what stuck in my mind was a banh mi sandwich which is how I ended up stopping by Pho Craze. I was seated immediately and handed a menu. When I saw the grilled pork banh mi for $6.75 I thought "Wow, this is way less expensive than other places I've gotten a banh mi." Now I know why. There was only two thinly sliced pieces of pork with lots of veggies which was good. I could barely taste the pork. If I was order it again, I'd offer to pay more to have more pork. Still suffering from lingering effects of a second dose and haven't been able to eat much of anything. When I'm not feeling well my immediate go to is pho. I found myself on Yelp searching for an alternative to my usual spot, hoping I can find something similar and close by. Pho Craze appeared, great rating and reviews, most importantly they had vegetarian options for me. I settled on the Pho Chay - veggie and tofu noodle soup. The broth was vegetable based without needing to request it, veggies were tender and fresh, tofu was crispy and help up to the broth and the broth itself was not overtly salty but possessed intense flavor to elevate the simplest of pho ingredients. I was able to place a phone order and it was ready in 15 minutes. There is one line for in store and pick up orders, which went by fast and you pay in store. All major forms of payment are accepted including Apple Pay. Cashier and the person who took my phone order was extremely friendly and patient. I have returned several times since my first visit, each time receiving the same level of service and quality of food. I'm elated Pho Craze is open on Mondays now, that was the only con I had previously. Now, Pho Craze is all pros and their consistency makes me return. I had a much better experience dining in person than my previous takeout experience. This is definitely the star pho spot in Pinole judging by how it was packed around 2:30p. Although the spacious dining area was packed, the staff moved the line along and promptly attended to their customers. My order: - Medium #1 Pho Craze Special- rare steak, tendon, brisket, flank, tripe, beef ball. $12.50. Piping hot, flavorful broth with plenty of beef. Rare steak also had some pink at the top, which is a telltale sign of great beef pho. Also, the accompanying herbs were very fresh! -Egg roll appetizer $5.75 - come with 3 pieces of hot, crispy and yummy rolls. I love pairing it with the grated pickled radish and carrots. -Taro smoothie with pearls - familiar, tasty, and cool treat but made a little too sweet. I'll have to request less sugar next time. Yesterday after my mom's doctor's appointment in San Pablo, my sister wanted to go to Pho Craze in Pinole. It's next town so the drive was okay and it is located where all the strips stores are with parking lot. We got our table. The server gave us cups of hot tea as complimentary. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls as appetizer. My mom ordered the wonton soup with bbq pork & shrimp. I got the seafood special combo and my sister had the grilled chicken, shrimps, egg roll combo. The appetizer came late and the server apologized but she was pleasant. The pho was full flavored. When we were ordering, the server said there was no wonton but later she returned and said the kitchen had the wanton soup to serve so we changed our mom's pho from chicken noodle pho. I tasted the wonton and it was a savory dumpling. The dining room was full. I met the owner Lyn who gave our smoothie boba drinks. Actually I asked her what was a good smoothie and she said taro. My mind was taro already. So I ordered the taro smoothie and my sister had the avocado. I missed taking the photos. We shall return when the time allows. I've been here a few times for their vermicelli dishes, pho, and banh mi but never got to try their Banh Xeo. I ordered the Banh Xeo and Tofu Spring Rolls over the phone and it was ready for me in about 15 minutes. It was pretty busy when I got there so I'm glad I ordered over the phone.
