Five stars for the friendly service, the banh mi packed with quality meats, very large creamy mango shakes, and fair prices. Bonus stars for clean restrooms, plentiful parking in back, and for actually being one of the few restaurants open til midnight near Bixby Knolls, Long Beach. The owner is obviously making a real effort, and I'm grateful for quality late-night Vietnamese food that's much closer to home than the OC. I've had some chain-restaurant banh mi in LB that really skimp on the meat for the same price. The sandwiches are not quite as big as Pickle Banh Mi, but I prefer the thinly sliced meats at Pho Express. I used to live in this neighborhood a few years ago and had ordered from here a few times when it was Pho Daily. I was in the area a couple weekends ago and dined here with my cousin. The place used to be a Mexican restaurant, and it is pretty evident from the exterior and the decor inside as well. The staff are all friendly. My cousin and I both ordered chicken pho and shared an order of egg rolls. I like that they serve theirs with romaine lettuce, vermicelli, shredded carrot, mint leaves and cilantro. It's quite tasty and refreshing to roll up the egg roll in the lettuce leaf with all the fixings. The chicken pho was very delicious, plentiful with the pieces of chicken and the toppings that they bring. I also ordered a jasmine green tea. It was such a fragrant tea. The first cup they brought me was not hot enough at all though. I was only halfway through with it when I requested if they could bring me another one, but hotter. Well, it was so hot that I could not drink it for 10 minutes. haha. Despite all this, I would return here if in the area. The restaurant is clean and well lit, except for the bathroom. Loved that this place reopened. But, I was surprised with the meals that I got. I feel like recipes have changed? Could be just me. My pho broth was so salty. I didn't even need to add hoison sauce due to the broth being already salty. I'm so used to having pho broth being plain and, in a way, fresh. The spring rolls were mainly greens (lettuce and/or cabbage). Barely any vermicelli noodles and shrimp inside, all I was biting into was the lettuce. I did enjoy my meal regardless. A few months ago I noticed this location reopened. I placed a delivery order a couple of times. Both times were pretty good so I was curious to go in person and get the whole experience. Let me start by saying that the customer service is 100/10. The servers were so lovely. Supper attentive. They answered all of my questions and were friendly, happy, with a smile on their face the whole time. I had some pho, egg rolls, plain noodles, and a thai iced tea to go. Everything was sooo Good! I really loved the atmosphere, very family friendly. They had the Dodgers game showing which was a huge plus. They also sell beer. I was so sad when Pho Daily had closed but was simultaneously thrilled to discover a new Pho restaurant had taken over its place. I find it almost difficult to find a Pho spot with a good broth but fortunately for me, Pho Express offers a really delicious broth. I've visited multiple times now since they've first opened 2 months ago and I've had great experiences so far. The rare steak pho is perfection asides from the minor critique of the meat being slightly too thick. I can overlook the thicker meat though as the rich broth is what's essential for me. My entire childhood this place was a Mexican restaurant. Hadn't been back in the area for years. My daughter called me up and asked about going to dinner. We both asked what we were feeling and after a small conversation she said she wasn't feeling very well and was thinking soup so I went to work. Pho it is if that's what my baby girl wants.
