There's just something about Pho that makes me very happy. I ordered my first bowl 25 years ago, and it's been a favorite treat ever since. I've eaten at many of the Vietnamese restaurants in Portland and I have my favorites, but honestly, sometimes convenience is all it takes for me to choose one over another. Pho Gia rates highly for a number of reasons. The restaurant is very centrally located on NE Sandy in between Hollywood and downtown, so it's never very far from the areas I frequent. Pho Gia has a pleasant vibe, is clean, and the waitstaff are generally pleasant. The food is always served very quickly, and I've never been disappointed with my meal. In fact, they have some of the best fresh herbs and garnishes I've ever been served in a Vietnamese restaurant before. Their hot chili oil with fermented soybeans is ridiculously good. I'm not sure if they make it in-house, but I always use it generously when I dine here. Parking can be a bit of a pain. There is a small parking lot around the corner that has 15 spots that are shared with other local businesses, and there are several spots in front of the restaurant on the street. There aren't many Vietnamese restaurants with outdoor seating in Portland, so I really appreciate the picnic tables on the sidewalk. It's a nice convenience when I want to take my dog out to dine with me. Pho Gia sits solidly amongst my Top 10 favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Portland. Though I've not sampled many of the other dishes they offer, my friends and family have always provided positive feedback. read more

The name means family heirloom pho and that is so true to the experience you get at this restaurant. You can tell this family loves what they do and they put their heart into their soups. My friend got a iced tea. Fair prices (Pho Tai 14$ and salad rolls $7.50). Don't recall the tea price, sorry. Stand out here is the broth, not too sweet and the noodles are Al dente! I got takeout from Pho Gia for the first time yesterday and it was pretty awesome. Sadly I didn't take a photo and I feel like reviewing takeout is kinda unfair as eating in a restaurant is part of the experience. Anyways, I will say the portion was huge (basically 2 meals for me)! And the service was very friendly and welcoming. The pho broth leaned heavy into star anise flavor which fine but not really my preference. I stopped in this spot mid afternoon one day. I was the only one there, which could be a bad sign. As far as my experience, this place was phenomenal. The staff were nice and quick to make it all happen. I ordered the veggie Pho and an iced coffee. WOW! I was not disappointed. The coffee was delicious and in a fun glass. My first time here, just saw it driving home and thought a bowl of pho' sounds good!I ordered the special bowl super size with tendon and tripe. The price is $20.00 more than most places but it was very good the garnish plate had really fresh basil and two other types of greens. The broth is some of the best I've had not salty and really rich. Overall I really liked it and would go back again. I've only ordered for delivery, so I've not experienced the ambiance or service, but the delivery never takes very long. I typically get the chicken pho, and my son likes the orange chicken. It was very slow when I walked in, two parties in there, but it took the server 10 minutes to acknowledge me waiting by the door. He finally sat me down on a dirty table with a half cup of water sitting on it. He never cleared it. Service continued to be slow even though the place was dead and the food was just ok. I was craving some pho, and saw this place was nearby. I opened the menu at the front, and was surprised to see how much more this place costed compared to other pho places. Most places will charge a dollar or two more for the super bowl, but this place charged it all the same. I just wanted a pho with just 2 meats, brisket and flank. So it was surprising to see that it costed $13.50 for just that, but it's whatever. But when it came time to charge me, he charged me $15.50, which is so ridiculous. I asked him why I was charged more than the menu price, and he legit told me "the price changed just now". What in the false advertisement is going on with this place? I understand the hardships of restaurants and covid/inflation, but this place was definitely just taking advantage of it. I've always driven past this place and finally I was able to give them a try today. First off, really great customer service. I was greeted by this sweet lady as I walked in through the doors handed me a menu and within a minute or so I was ready to put in my to go order. There was another gentleman ahead of me that was also waiting for his to go order. I would say the turn around was pretty quick. They got my order out give our take 7-10 minutes. The portion size is pretty generous! Definitely one pho could easily feed two people (as long as you're not like super hungry or anything lol) or plenty of left overs for the next day. The broth was delicious, tasty, piping hot and not too sweet either! It was just what I needed in this sunny but cold afternoon.
