Place is slowly growing to be a Top 1 restaurant for me in the City of El Monte. Consistent quality across the board rather than hit and misses. Ordered the Com Bo Luc Lac Shaka Shaka Beef, and the beef was perfectly grilled pan fried on the outside in a sweet soy fish sauce marinade. Basically the dish is equivalent to Cantonese Charsiu BBQ but here with beef and paired with salad/ rice. Lastly ordered the Bahn Mi Bo Kho, a French inspired Beef Stew paired with a baguette but instead of red wine as a base, your standard beef bullion, carrots, soy, onions and all them Pho Spices. Thus far my two trips here have been nothing but praise. You want a quality Noodle Soup dish, you have it here, you want a quality Grilled Meats dish, you have it here. Ordered take out and the pho dac biet (comes in large bowl only) is a huge portion. It's really enough for 2-3 meals. I like that they keep the rare meat separate. Great food with great price. Service is always good, friendly and also knows when to check in and leave you be. The setting is your typical Vietnamese restaurant, nothing too crazy and gives you a "homey" feel. There are plenty of tables and seats for parties of 2-4 or bigger parties larger than 5. You can sit comfortably without being squished and close to another group. I normally get the pho tai (#17) and spring rolls as the appetizer. Broth flavor is good and light. Doesn't feel heavy! They're pretty generous with their meat and noodles, too! I don't know why I always order both pho and spring rolls, I always get full LOL. I usually try to finish the spring rolls because they're normally not good as leftovers. Pho, I would take home and save it for the next day sometimes and it's still so good! Even with medium size I was adventurous one time and tried kobe pho, it's good although the broth came out extremely hot so I couldn't enjoy it right away and actually burned my tongue lol. Not heavy in cinnamon or one spice over another. Perfect balance. Legit! Around April 2025, the employees and I were chatting about the whole tariffs situation and ever since then I noticed the portion got significantly smaller. Very nice bowl of pho. The broth is rich and flavorful enough even if you don't mix in any hoisin and sriracha sauce. Generous amount of meat (rare steak, flank, brisket, tendon, tripe). The only difference between #1 and #2 is that #1 has lean beef flank while #2 has fatty beef flank. Not on the menu: during lunch hours (12 to around 2 pm), you can order a gargantuan plate of two beef bone marrows for merely $8.50! This a lot of meat for tendon lovers; I'm a big eater, and even I had trouble finishing this huge plate by myself. The service was very friendly and attentive. Their front counter faces the entire dining room, so you won't have trouble catching staff's attention. Staff refilled my ice water on their own. When my waiter noticed how my pho's soup has gone cold (a bit of fatty oil has congealed in the soup as I was busy struggling with the bone marrow), he proactively offered to add a bowl of piping hot soup to warm up my bowl. I appreciate that kind of service, especially at a pho restaurant. You do have to go up to the counter to pay your check, but that's not an issue. There's plenty of parking space in the large plaza. I seriously need to put five stars for this mom and pop shop because wow- food is consistent and priced right. I have friends who come here twice a week without skipping a beat (sometimes they come more than that) so I had to come test out what I may have been missing out on. Their pho dac biet comes with everything (just a tip it doesn't come with meatballs but you can add it if you like). Their large bowl is 11.95 - and the amount of noodles you get can definitely fill you up. The broth here is delicious is my opinion but I can see how it may be oily to those that are sensitive. Their com bu luc lac is the shaken beef with rice. Their take on this dish is amazing and is priced at 14.95 as of January 2022. This was well worth the price as the entree comes separate from the rice in a boat platter and is filled with delicious veggies like lettuce, sautéed onions, cucumbers and tomato. The portion of the beef is bigger than my hand! I must say the flavors are a great compliment to the dish and don't miss out on scooping the sauce onto your plate of rice. Finish it off with the complimentary cup of broth they give you on the side for a nice warm finish. Their Thai ice tea here is tasty and coming from me that's something because I don't drink Thai tea much.
