The menu on the walls is not in English, but I got a "small" bowl of the beef brisket pho. The amall bowl is actually pretty filling, I can't imagine what the large is like. Tender beef and plenty of rice noodles swimming in a bowl of the best pho broth I have ever had. Very savory, flavorful, and tasty, I can see how people eat this stuff so quickly. It's served with basil and bean sprouts and can be flavored further with chili sauce or chili oil or one of the other condiments they have on the table. They also serve it with a thermos of hot tea which was good for washing it down. By the time we finished eating there was a larger crowd waiting by the door, staring at us while we ate... You may be asked to share a table as it gets packed. Definitely a great place to stop by for a quick and delicious bowl of pho!

It took me time to go over the menu as I had never heard of some of the things / variations offered. I guess it is the regions take on some of the popular Viet dishes... There is a section on the menu for Kitchen's Specialisation... As I was going through this, the owner who looked like a reformed viet gangster came across and started talking to us. Nice guy.. :) Went for #137 (Bánh t), #5 (Banh Loc) .. and the broken rice on a hot plate. cus the dude suggested it. I told him that there is no where in Springvale that serves good Com Tam anymore.. and asked whats so special about his broken rice... he said try it... you wont regret. serving it on a sizzling plate tastes better he says... I couldnt agree more. The sizzling plate also makes the broken rice a bit harder at the bottom, almost like a claypot. Which was an interesting twist. The Pork.. I haven't had this good in a while. Not the best I have had as it still lacked the flame grilled flavour. But great all the same. Banh Loc - I've not tried this before... very similar to most of the "banh" style dishes but wrapped in banana leaf and not heavy. Banh Uot - is very similar to the normal banh cuon (translucent rice noodle rolls) that I am used to however this variety... the "uot" (opaque rice noodle rolls) which means wet banh uses a thicker noodle sheet as wrapper and the filler used was small amounts of pork. I think marinated grilled pork.. the 'cuon' uses those ear mushroom / fungus thingies. and the pork is finer. Arrrggg .. Anyway... bottom line... its frekn YUM! just go try it! :) and no I dont have shares there and the reformed gangster owner has not threatened my family or anything!! Mekong, no more!?…read more was here for an early dinner before heading down to south yarra for CMYE. this is my first time here, trying only their pho and they have won me over. could it be the trek in winter that made me hungry?;) if you get past closing their tricky glass door, their typically basic pho shop set up will slowly warm you up. hit their free flow hot tea for a quicker thaw. menu is pictorialized, so just point and shoot your order(s). do beware when it comes to sizes, they come in S,M,L but the staff seems to only offer medium or large ones. for me, the medium size combination pho at A$10, was way more than enough! so if you are planning to squeeze into your wedding dress for a photo shoot, do ask them for a small portion instead. the wait was only made agonizing because they do not offer wifi:( but the fact of the matter is, you will soon be presented with fresh garnishes followed in tow by their piping, yet not overly hot bowl of pho goodness. the trick is to add in all the fresh garnishes, if you like them, crunchy bean sprouts, fragrant sweet thai basil and a squeeze of tart lemon, as much as i do. quickly toss up so the heat transfers to the garnishes without overcooking them and yet brings the broth down to a desirable slurping temperature whilst enhancing the depth of the dish. then add the usual suspects like hosin, sriracha and fish sauces and chilli oil for the complex trained palate. another round of gentle mixing and you are ready to reap what you sowed. all the different cuts of beef in their combination pho were exquisitely cooked and offered a marvelous mix of texture and flavour. slurping them silky, slippery rice noodles was a breeze and delight. The genius of a move of keeping my black winter pea coat on, also prevented any unwanted visible splash spots! Service was neither bad nor good. They let their pho do the talking and boy did it speak to me in volumes! It is definitely a 5 star pho but i'll reserve that fifth for after I try their other dishes. p.s. can you please open an outlet in SG!?;-)

Due to some delays, we didn't make it back into the city until close to 10pm. I had phoned ahead to see if they would still be open and they said "Yes." When I saw the time closing in on 10pm, I called them again and explained my situation. They were very friendly and told me to come on and not to worry. They are staying open for me. I could not believe this. When I walked up to the restaurant, they had the "We are closed" sign on the door but had the door unlocked for me. They let me sit down and immediately brought out my warm tea and large bowl of pho that I had pre-ordered. After walking outside all day and being a bit chilly, nothing better to warm you up than a steaming bowl of pho. The broth was tasty which is the most important factor when eating pho and i liked the thick flat noodles as well. They didn't skimp on one thing. My bowl was packed with thinly sliced rare beef and vietnamese beef balls. I used all the fresh condiments they gave me and went to town. I use tons of lime in my pho but it's because I am a huge lover of lime. A place that will not only stay open for you but let you enjoy your meal and give you a big bowl of pho with all the fixings is a place I would keep coming back too. How I lived without it for all those years, I don't know. Thank gosh for friendship. Good Days is a hip new Vietnamese eatery in Brunswick that I wish existed in my neighbourhood. It's a cozy and welcoming reprieve from the bustle of the street, and a great mid-week dinner. I was catching up with an old friend, and we nabbed two bar seats which was a good life choice as you can watch the chefs prepare the food as you await your food coma. The menu is short and sweet featuring four Vietnamese classics (pho, rice paper rolls, chicken rice, and noodle salad) but with a point of difference. The impressive twist? Good Days is vegan-friendly and all the meat is ethically sourced - unheard of, I know! The free range pork is from McIver Farm Foods, the free range chicken is from Milawa Farms, the pasture raised organic beef is from Creighton Creek and Australian prawns are from North Queensland. Now for the real 'jump on your chair' moment - they have vegan pho! The aromatic vegetable broth (shiitake mushroom and kombu base) was exceptional, and the grilled and braised Asian mushrooms on top gave a 'meaty' vegetarian touch to the dish. My friend got the pork and prawn noodle salad with homemade rice paper rolls and we both agreed we could drink a gallon of the nuoc cham sauce it comes with. I have a weakness for rice paper rolls and highly recommend the mushroom and tofu vegan entree. The drinks menu features coconut water, Vietnamese iced coffee and jasmine tea. Speak to the staff if you're gluten-free and they will happily help you out. Good Days is an undersell - it's more like Great Nights and life-changing mushroom pho!

Long story short, Nam is a quiet achiever and nothing has changed. Continue to read my food review if you like. As I was visiting from outta town, I just had to skip my usual "benchmark dish" the Beef Pho and went straight to this mysterious Mushroom Pho. I must say I am converted. GDB use fresh succulent mushies. My fav is the innoki and the 2 slices of char grilled oyster mushroom cooked before me. The way it is beautifully presented reminded me of a scene from the 1985 Ramen movie "Tampopo." And just like in the movie, I caressed those 2 slices of oyster mushroom in that beautiful dark kombu broth and whispered "I shall meet you towards the end and eat you". One final note that sums up this dish is "delicate". I am not sure if pho from VN is delicate because of the portion size, the price or the way it is cooked. All I know is modern Aussie pho often lacks the subtlety of its motherland origins. In creating something unique, GDB is actually paying homage to an iconic dish. Pro tip: if you like the whole slow eating concept, I suggest you sit at the bar and kindly ask the chef to blanch your bean sprouts. This will help retain the temperature of your broth and you can savour every last drop, piping hot 'til you hit the spot. I also had the Saigon samurai beer which is ?locally brewed beer on tap. It is a light beer very similar to a 333 or Saigon bia (all it needs is some ice cubes and it's like being back in VN). Finally, I really wish someone else would create their version of this Mushroom Pho dish and battle Nam and his GDB team because then it would actually become something (just like in Japan you have different ramen based on different regions).
