After telling the waiter my day was going good he noticed me fighting for my life, head down on the table, and made a point to ask if I was okay again to which I admitted having a massive headache. He brought extra water and suggested soda to relieve the headache and later brought small lollipops. After my tea, pho, and candy, I felt a lot better. I had been to Pho Saigon a few years ago and remembered the pho being pretty good. Looking for a lunch spot one afternoon, I decided to stop back and try something different from the menu. I arrived around 2 PM, and the restaurant was mostly empty. The restaurant appeared clean and well maintained. Service was prompt and friendly, although attentiveness tapered off once the meal was served. It seemed like the staff had shifted their focus toward preparing for the evening dinner crowd. After reading several recommendations, I ordered the Saigon Special since it included grilled pork, chicken, shrimp, and a Vietnamese egg roll. It seemed like a great way to sample several of their specialties. I also started with the fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. The spring rolls were enormous and easily large enough to share. The Saigon Special was equally generous, with a substantial portion of vermicelli noodles underneath the grilled meats. Everything tasted fresh, and each protein was cooked well, but none of the individual components really stood out. The meal leaned more toward generous portions and good value than bold or memorable. Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch with friendly service and excellent portion sizes. While I wasn't blown away by the flavors, I appreciated the freshness and value. I'd definitely come back for the pho, which I remember having a flavorful broth and a generous portion of meat on my previous visit. Great food. Great service. We went for lunch. I had the lemongrass tofu vermicilli bowl. It was definitely a big portion. I could probably eat two or three more servings from it. Very flavorful and they were not skimpy with the protein. My friend was very impressed with her dish as well. For our appetizer we had eggrolls, but they reminded me of spring rolls. They were still good. I saw people eating pho and It looked delicious. The only downside is the location as traffic is horrible even on weekdays. Date Night Vibes After binge watching YouTube videos of Asian street food, we decided Pho was a must. We ended up at Pho Saigon and were greeted right away by Tony, who took great care of us throughout the night. Pho Saigon is the real deal! I'm not a frequent Thai food consumer but I know fresh food when I see it. We started with the Thai eggrolls as an appetizer. They arrived hot, fresh and crispy with delicious filling. The other dishes arrived in short order as they were prepared. I was astonished at the size. So when people say the food is pricy, they should also say each dish is about 4 normal servings! The Thai fried rice was pretty spicy so I mixed it with steamed white rice. They did not ask what spice level was preferred so I suggest you tell them what you like. The pho had a deliciously aromatic sweet and spicy flavor. My husband and I got food poison from this restaurant on Saturday may 1 2026 we both had the soup I had sea food with beef both and my husband had the beef soup. Saturday at 6pm on by 11pm we both could not keep any food down. Sunday morning we went to the ER to confirm it was what we thought I had to miss work for two day's because I couldn't make past the front door with making a mess. So, let me start by saying that I've actually never been to the restaurant. My experience is purely based on takeout orders, which I've done in the last couple of months. With that being said, every time I've ordered food from this restaurant everything has been delicious and packaged perfectly. My favorite item from this restaurant is their chicken pho (Pho Ga). They don't skimp with their takeout orders and make sure to put a lot of chicken and noodles. Thursday lunch with the spouse. Was seated right away as the place was only about half full. Casual, comfortable, spacious, clean and their AC is definitely working. Haha. We order the Spring rolls that was fresh with lots of ingredients and the peanut sauce was very yummy. Sometimes the sauce has too much hoi sin sauce in it and you cannot taste the peanut butter. But, not this one. You could definitely taste the peanut butter and we loved how thick it was. We knew they didn't skimp by watering it down. I'm not vegetarian but I often like to order a vegetarian pho, hold the pho and add extra veggies. Many places just give me extra bean sprouts when I make that request. Not the place. They actually gave me extra veggies. I was delighted. The broth did not seem like the traditional broth as it had a hit of star anise. Odd at first but I didn't hate it. It was different but a nice different. The grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl had very flavorful pork. The pork was tender and cooked perfectly. Egg roll was crispy crunchy. Their fish sauce was quite yummy. Overall, portions were huge, food was delicious and service was good. We do recommend and will be back. I have been wanting to try this place out for the longest, but I could never get myself to "cheat" on my go-to pho spot. However, we finally tried this spot for dinner yesterday as it was a perfect time for a bowl of pho, as the weather called for it. We ordered our usual as we would at any Vietnamese restaurant. It being: - Vietnamese spring roll (A1): Normally, these are my absolute favorite appetizers to start with, but I was pretty disappointed as the mint leaves took over the entire roll, and the pork meat was too thick and dry and overly chewy. The house peanut sauce was wayyyyy too thick for our liking, which also came with a ton of peanut chunks, which I also don't mind, but it was just too much. I couldn't finish it. - Vietnamese egg rolls (A6): This is my son's favorite order at any Vietnamese restaurant, and he usually eats the entire two rolls. However, he couldn't and offered the other roll to both my husband and me. My husband took a bite and decided that he didn't want it, so I took a bite and immediately understood why my son and husband didn't care to finish it. The egg rolls were soggy, and the filling was so mushy, as if it was left soaking in the grease oil it was fried in. The sweet chili sauce here was new to us and not what we were used to, and it had a weird taste. - Oxtail pho (N2): It came with two pieces of oxtail, and they added pieces of beef steak to offset the price of the oxtail pho ($16.25). The broth's flavor was overpowered with star anise, which gave a taste between cinnamon and black licorice (gag). Usually, I wouldn't mind it, but it was again overpowering to the point where I could not taste any "beef" in the broth. I added hoisin sauce, watered-down/bootleg siracha, and chili oil to see if it would help, and it did a bit, but I couldn't get over the overcooked rice noodles. As much as I tried to force myself to finish my pho, I couldn't. So I hated that I wasted my food. Again, the noodles were overcooked to my liking. Our go-to pho spot, where I always order oxtail pho, comes with six pieces of oxtail meat, and I only pay $15.99. - Eye round steak, brisket, and beef flank (N10): my husband ordered this, and again, sadly, his bowl of pho was wasted except for the meat, which he did not want to waste. As for the flavoring of the broth and rice noodles, please see *oxtail* above for broth flavor and noodles. Such a disappointment. My son initially ordered chicken pho, but the server returned and stated that they were out of chicken, which was such a shocker. So he settled for a kid's chopped steak pho, which he ended up not liking, so again, wasted food. Service could've been better. Our server barely came to see if we needed anything, and when we did, we would have to wave down another server, who also made us feel like we were such an inconvenience when asked for napkins and utensils. He would respond, "Your waiter will bring it to you," and walk off. I was a bit confused because it was not busy at all, and you could see them both hanging behind the counter on their phones. The menu is full of Vietnamese classics like noodle soups and vermicelli bowls. Decided to slam the tofu spring rolls with peanut sauce on the way home after work. They were so fresh and had hints of fresh basil and mint. The peanut sauce was so good, not watery and full of crushed peanuts. The vermicelli bowl had fresh cucumber, grilled shrimp and a nice vinegar sauce. It was the perfect girl dinner. They also have a drive through window for orders. They have a pretty large menu but we stuck with what was considered to be appetizers or small plates. Goi Cuon (summer rolls) - very fresh, moist, packed with shrimp, pork, veggies and noodles. Loves the peanut sauce. Calamari - my 6 y/o ate this and really enjoyed it. There were a few overly crispy bits but not worth complaining about. Fried chicken wings - comes with 6 wings and a sweet chili dipping sauce. My 11 and 6 y/o liked this a lot! krab Rangoon - came with 6 very large pieces, filled from edge to edge. That was a treat because most places have a small amount of filling and maybe smaller Rangoons. This was perfect and tasted so good! Banh Mi Dac Biet - I'll start with this was really tasty. The bread was perfectly toasted. The pickled carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, and jalapeño were nice and crunchy. I did chop up the jalapeño because I like small traces of heat. The pâté was really yum. I always say, it's not a good Banh Mi without the pate! Ok so now... the sandwich had the classic ham but added in bbq pork, & grilled pork. It was not the traditional Banh mi I grew up eating, which has pork liver pâté and thinly sliced cold cuts (e.g., headcheese, giò lụa sausage, and pork shank), but it was still very good! Well, the broth was flavorful, and the portion was generous, but here's the part that threw me -- barely any oxtail. Mostly just noodles and broth. If you put "oxtail" in the name, I expect to see and taste the oxtail, not have to go searching for it. Brisket was added , and when I ask why " because the oxtail were not to meaty' Don't get me wrong -- the flavor was still solid, and the staff were kind. We ordered the spring rolls without pork and I did not like the mint leaves in the spring rolls. I've tried several pho places all over San Antonio and that was the first time I had mint leaves in my spring rolls. The pho had very dark broth which scared me a little. The brisket and meat were very tender and perfectly thinly sliced. I felt like the broth tasted too much like cinnamon and cloves and was very oily. Last week I was feeling under the weather and craved Wonton Noodle Soup. Now, I've had this at a lot of places and they're all very bleh. Because I trust Pho Saigon's name and it's quality, we ordered it to be delivered. The portions were big, the wontons were good, and they did not skimp on the bbq meat! I did have to reheat the broth because it got lukewarm during delivery but it was soooo good. Just what I wanted on a cold and rainy day. Broth was flavored perfectly, noodles cooked just right, meat was tender, and wontons actually tasted like authentic Vietnamese wontons (not like the Americanized crap).
