Pho Sunrise provides a decent dining experience in a neighborhood filled with mostly uninspired cuisine. I wouldn't recommend you make plans to stop in, but if you are ever stuck waiting near the airport, this knocks the socks off food from the airport. I love pho. It is one of my favorite foods, and if we are going to have Vietnamese, you can count on me ordering a large bowl of pho, unless it's not my first trip to a Vietnamese restaurant that day. This time was no different. I ordered the Pho Tai Nam Gan Sach, XL for $8.75. Now the pho at Pho Sunrise was about average. The bowl comes out hot and steamy, which in addition to providing pleasing visuals and aromas, is important to "cook" the rare beef that it often comes with. The noodle soup is also served with a plate of fresh vegetables, which is customary. Pho Sunrise provided a plate of mung bean sprouts, fresh basil, cilantro, lime wedges, and jalepenos. I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh the veggies on the tray looked. Nothing was wilting, and it all looked very fresh (mung bean sprouts can wilt within a couple days, so kudos, for having fresh pickings). I tried a bit of the soup, which was satisfying, but I was disappointed as the broth was not very flavorful. IMO, great broth is the key to having a great bowl of pho. Though you can spice things up with sriracha, hoisin sauce, lime, etc, these are complementary and not a replacement for good savory broth. I just got water with my meal. Nothing wrong here, except the cups are HUGE. They were so big, that the straws doesn't go over the lip. Maybe they expect some thirsty folks coming in or want more time between refills? Despite the large cups, my server was quite nice and stop by my table a few times. As far as the restaurant, there was some decent décor inside that gave the place some character and some TV's on either side that also make waiting around a little easier. The bathroom did smell pretty funky, so that was a turnoff. Note: I currently live in Baton Rouge, but I was spending the day in NOLA before picking someone up from the airport later in the evening (a little after normal dinner time). Friendly. Clean. Great a/c. Lovely menu of drinks-boba tea, sodas, beer, iced coffee. Tried the pho--great flavor. The cilantro, basil, sprouts, peppers were very fresh. Table equipped with sriracha, hosin, soy and fish sauces. Five beautiful bonsai and a Buddha along with framed flower embroidery add to the ambiance. The quality of the pho here varies depending on the day that I've been here. What's worse is when I ordered the extra large pho and got the same amount of broth as their regular bowl. When I asked for more broth to go with my noodles, they tried to charge me an additional $1 for a ladle of broth. I've never heard of something so ridiculous, especially when I've gotten free bowls of broth that come with rice dishes at other restaurants! Also, the other yelp comments about having to buy water is true. Any water you ask for has to be bottled water that you pay for additionally. In short, this place is all about getting your $$ and not about the quality of your food or your dining experience. read more

Looking to fuel up after a grueling workout. I ordered the grilled pork spring rolls, pho tai nam and grilled pork rice plate. I didn't come to this joint for the ambiance or the DJ spinning EDM, I came for the foodgasm. What I did find was quality soul food, service was prompt and friendly and I may have only taken one breath during the meal, which explains why I was blacking in and out of consciousness. Customers came in and out for to go orders but the dining area itself wasn't crowded, which I liked. Our waitress was polite and kept the water refills coming. A neat, clean little place serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine at reasonable prices. Service is fast and friendly and the menu contains all the classic appetizers and dishes. When exploring a new restaurant, I will always try the Phó because I believe good broth is a hallmark of great vietnamese cuisine and this one did not disappoint. I walked in to order some food , I've ordered from this place before , very good food but but I wanted to try this soup that I hadn't tried before. It was the vermicelli shrimp and crab soup, The girl at the counter said she didn't really recommend that if I hadn't had it before because it is very fishy ,so I said OK and just ordered the Seafood soup. I then asked her if I could have a little sample of the broth of the shrimp and crab vermicelli soup in case I wanted to try it next time because it did look good on the picture .She asked the man that was working behind the counter and his response was we don't give samples , , I said, I just wanted to try a little bit of the broth to see if I actually liked it for next time, and he again repeated we don't give samples. He was extremely rude , but then again he was extremely rude from the jump when I walked in. Best beef broth in NOLA area! I've needed this as I heal and transition from a "clear liquid diet" to be able to add more substantial solids to my slow recovery. I'm thankful that everyone gets to with the sa,me mild base and add spices and heat individually. That's been a blessing during this season of recovery. They are very pleased to make it easy to customize your order. Easy to add, substitute, and/or remove anything at your request. A little pricey but the amounts are generous and the quality of the beef is top grade. Just be ready to speak quickly on the phone. I haven't ventured into unfamiliar dishes yet. Maybe someday after this craziness I'll have time to sit in a public place and savor a more adventurous choice from the menu. In the meantime, #11 and Viet-eggrolls are my go-to that lasts me for 3 (!) entire home meals. Well worth price. I wish they delivered. read more

Service was pretty slow with only two waitresses taking orders and making boba teas although the restaurant was almost empty. It's also really hard to communicate with them due to the very little English they speak. To the point that when they brought us our soups we weren't even sure which order was what and when asked the waitress she couldn't help either. Last but not least the FOOD was VERY GOOD, but unless you speak Vietnamese or know each dish on the menu it is very hard to pick what to get without being able to be assisted with questions. I see some people saying the service is too laid back or rushed etc. I personally like the laid back atmosphere. I've never felt rushed while ordering. However, there was one time when I was the only patron in the restaurant and the staff stood at the counter watching me eat. We all know how awkward it is to eat pho, and then to have someone watching you...lol! I love this place. It's close to my house and the pho is incredible. The best bun bo hue in town. Spicy broth, with some congealed blood pudding( I know how it sounds but you should try). It burst with flavor of galangal and Lemon grass. It is a must try. The rest of the menu is not bad, they have slices of very rare beef, with spices and herbs that I have not found in many vietnamese restaurants. I would also recommend the spring rolls with sliced barbecue pork. The place is not pretentious, it is located in the somewhat run down strip mall. The service is attentive, but the only reason to go there is the food. And food is the main reason I to go to restaurants... Unfortunately, I returned a couple of times after the above review, for unclear reasons the quality took a nose dive, even the bun bo hue was ho hum... Very good food. The waitresses don't speak very good English, so it can be difficult to order at times because they always want to try up sell you to buy more food. Their phó and boba are point and always have a football or sports game on. It seems like a hole in the wall type place, but it's clean and the food comes out quick. read more

I came here a couple times.. I ordered the vermicelli chicken dish & the pho. Both were tasty. But the bolba tea I had which was taro one wasn't that good. It was way too sweet! And it didn't have that signature taro root taste. It tasted like it had so much syrupt in it! But overall good food. Service was mediocre. I had to ask for water twice. read more

I get take out every time I fly out of MSY. Today the guy refused to give me a small ramekin of Sriracha sauce. Told me to squirt it in my rolls instead. I said this is a take out order and I wanted to take out the sauce as well. Then proceeds to tell me I need to pay for a ramekin. Need I remind you a plastic ramekin cost about 2 cents retail. I told him it's ridiculous. He then says "you are fuckin ridiculous" I respond with an even Fuck You. He then says "you better fuckin leave before it's too late" Pretty sure he threatened me lol at this point the female worker tries to apologize to me and then tries to get the guy to go to the back. I had ordered 2 large spicy beef pho and a combination rice and. 2 spring rolls , I find their prices were kinda high the rice was 10 bucks and they only offered one size . That was another odd thing the sizing it was either large or Extra large lol . The beef was kind of rubbery more than other pho places I have tried . The spring rolls were very good . I am addicted to the mi hoanh thanh (egg noodle won ton soup) with pork, chicken, shrimp, crab and the most wonderful tiny bits of crackin floating in the broth. I eat versions of this dish all over town, and this is by far the the best of the best. read more

Fabulous pho and soups! Awesome, different, authentic dishes that go far beyond most pho places in the greater NO area. The mother and daughter that run this place are super friendly and are welcoming and accommodating. Also the prices... where can you go for an 8 dollar meal anymore? Subway? It's very rare of me to order pho from a pho restaurant because mama makes it best at home, so I went with the Bun Bo Hue aka Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was spicy, but not overpowering. Damn y'all, this lady told me fixed my soup a certain way because i was asian and she made my friends American so that's why they made hers the way she got it and i had specifically told the waitress that i wanted the SAME order as my friend! Than she continues to argue with me about NOODLES when it went beyond that!! I was offended! & then she comes with a plate and chopsticks and picks out the blood in front of me and puts it on a plate and leaves the same bowl in front of me!! I ask to see a manager and he comes and he's just as much of an idiot and tells me no refund bc that's policy when I'm trying to order something else off the menu and so i asked if it was stated on the menu bc that's a bullshit policy and it wasn't stated anywhere lol. I tried to see the menu to see if i had missed it but he yanks the menu out my hands and tells me that HES THE ONE SAYING IT! Wild. Most garage restaurant with garbage staff. Pho orchid is super yum try them on Houma Blvd or just go down the street to pho bang rude waitresses and bullshit asshole managers do not deserve your money!!!
