My friend and I found ourselves in Phoenix today, and I was entirely intent on experiencing my very first Vietnamese meal. We happened upon a charming restaurant situated right along the road just past the 17th Street traffic lights and a rather marvelous discovery it turned out to be. They even accommodate reservations, which is always a reassuring touch for a well-planned afternoon. Upon arrival, we were pleased to find a wonderfully convenient parking spot, which immediately set a relaxed tone. Stepping inside, the venue was beautifully lively and bustling with a wonderful crowd, yet it maintained a thoroughly nice, comfortable atmosphere. The staff welcomed us with immense warmth, and I found their level of hospitality to be entirely satisfactory. To commence the luncheon, I ordered a Thai Tea my very first and it was absolute perfection. They also offer a selection of desserts, which I shall certainly have to explore on a future visit. When it came to selecting my entrée, our waiter was exceedingly nice, explaining the menu with the utmost patience. Following his guidance, I chose the Wonton Noodle Soup with ribs. The kitchen's timing was impeccable; precisely fifteen minutes later, it was presented at our table. The dish was a absolute triumph the noodles paired with the rich, savory ribs were utterly exciting to the palate. This establishment has officially earned a very special place in my diary. Visiting from California and was so happy to stumble upon a super authentic Vietnamese restaurant!! The place is huge, we got seated right away. Our group was pretty large as well, we had about 16 people total and they have long tables for big groups to sit together. The service is 100! They acknowledge you the minute you enter, taking you to a table and providing menus. They come by often to ask if you are ready to order. Upon ordering, the food comes out quickly and is fresh to order. The flavor of the broth is great a the side of vegetables is great! Portions are generous. This is my first time visiting the restaurant on the corner of 17th to pick up my call-in order of vermicelli with grilled pork sausages. The meal only has 7 small pieces of meat and doesn't match the amount of noodles shown in the photo. The service is quick; they probably just microwave pre-made ingredients and reheat them. I have lived in Arizona my whole life and I can confidently say this is the best Pho in town. I frequented the boba place next door and finally decided to give them a try and I was not disappointed! I got some egg rolls to start off and they absolutely blew my mind away. Egg rolls are something you can get just about anywhere but I can't really tell you I had a good one until I tried the ones at Pho Thanh. They are something crispy but not overly crunchy. I understand with Covid & inflation & everything that all restaurants had to raise their prices but most only went up like 25 percent. There's have literally gone up 100 percent. The service has always been awful, due mostly to a language barrier with literally every employee, but when it was cheap it was tolerable. Now it's overpriced AND you get shitty service & today was the last straw. On Google, it says they close at 830pm. On their door it says they close at 815 PM. CIosing on the half hour is kind of weird, but not unheard of. I Have seen ZERO businesses close at 15 after the hour. Anyways, one day l arrived at 7:55 PM, thinking they thought at 830, because thats what it says, on Google. I understand that's close to closing. but again I was planning on getting a to go order. Their set up is weird. You pay at the register but after you eat. The restaurant was full and there was a line at the register. I w soon as I started walking to the register, several employees rudely started yelling at me that they were close. I tried to tell them that they dont close until 830 & that was going to take it to go. They all started yelling at me that they close at 815 and they are closed. I told them that on Google it says they are open til 830,& even if they do close at 815 it was only 7: 55 and I was going to take it to go. So Id be out of there before 8:15 and they are still ringing people up, so why can't they just ring up 1 more & why would they turn away a paying customer while they are still open. They just starting yelling, "We're closed, we're closed" over & over at me, so I left * have never been back. Absolutely love this place! The perfect hole in the wall that I've been searching for. Growing up Vietnamese, I always crave authentic Viet food that my mom cooked for me growing up. Her pho is definitely the best (I may be biased here), however the pho at Pho Thanh comes very VERY close. I came here with a party of 4 on New Year's Day for lunch, and it was packed. However, we were still seated immediately. The server speaks both Vietnamese and English, so communication shouldn't be an issue. There was a little bit of a wait to get our order in since it seemed as if there was only one person taking orders, but after our orders were placed the food came out quickly. This was my second time here, and definitely not my last. The pho is for sure the star of the show, however I'm looking forward to trying the many other dishes they have in their menu. read more

It's usually quite busy at this location, especially on weekends during lunch time. Even so, I haven't waited particularly long to receive my order once it's placed. Staff has always been helpful with good attention to detail. One of my friends who I usually go with to Pho Thanh doesn't like green onions inside her Pho, and they are always accommodating. (Yes, some places don't always listen and add everything anyway!) Another great thing about this location is their fresh beverages. Located ina little no frills strip mall of Asian business's, dont expect any banter these folks show no emotion, and customer service is essentially non existant, I went outside my typical comfort zone and chose the Bon Bo Hue, which had Pigs blood and other unusual items in it. It was ok nothing special. So the reason i give this a 4 star is because the portion size's are huge enough for 2, which creates a savings, and the eggs rolls were delicious. Had high hopes for this place as it was recommended by a friend as being great and cheap. Seems small on the outside but large on the inside...not really a hole-in-the-wall. Coffee with condensed milk came first - not bad...great presentation as well, but ice and water is almost for sure tap...or it is just from a poor-quality filter. Food came out fast, but the meat (rare steak) was low-quality as it was bits and pieces instead of thin slices and lots oxidized already when it came out - clear it wasn't super fresh. Pho broth was very flavorful but it was so concentrated with oil and/or fat that I couldn't even eat eat more than a few bites. Very slow services and quality is not as its current rating. The crew is cranky. We tried to order a good variety but advised only noodles left. Food is not at good quality. Some is salty, some is too light. Ordered lemon and veggies for Pho, it took 20 mins and we were told no lemon left. Suggestion: food needs upgrade, team needs to be more friendly and move faster. If you believe you cannot serve food in the menu, then cut your menu short. You should not give us the full menu and told us only 10% of them available. You look busy but just because the service is slow. read more

We were craving Pho and decided to try a new spot, that spot being Pho Thanh. Upon arriving, the restaurant was fairly busy. We sat and shortly later were waited on. Ordered our drinks and food. I chose the Seasoned Shredded Pork Spring Rolls and the Beef Rib in Spicy Beef Soup. The Spring Rolls weren't my favorite but the soup was delicious. The ribs were flavorful and suited the soup well. I was expecting a bit more sickness but with the hot sauces on the table, that was an easy fix. The restaurant has plenty of seating but my one complaint is that a line forms at the pickup and pay counter which is right by some of the tables. I tried Pho Thanh for the first time on 5/7/25 for a solo lunch date. The parking lot is relatively small, especially since it's shared amongst other businesses, but I found a spot. Upon entering, I was quickly seated immediately and tended to, despite being pretty lively inside. Although Pho Thanh has a huge menu, I stuck quite close to my usual pho order, which at any restaurant is pho chin (fully cooked beef brisket), but I hadn't even seen filet mignon on a pho menu and decided to treat myself. I opted for the 116. Pho Filet Nam (beef noodle soup w/ sliced filet mignon beef and beef brisket). I was amazed by the rich and sweet broth that wasn't too oily and soft meat. This combination was perfect, with a huge portion size that left me stuffed and satisfied, at the reasonable price of $15.95.
