If you're in to pho, you must stop by and try the Lao version! Heartier broth and not as salty, and new-to-me mixed spice to give it great character. High quality beef slice and great meatballs that don't form up after a few minutes. Watch out when adding chili oil as theirs is HOT. Two small spoons was a little more than I expected and I usually add 6 to 8 to my pho. They also have sugar to add which was new to me and unexpectedly good. Atmosphere is much nicer than expected when looking at the outside. Owner Ken was super friendly and very helpful with my questions about everything. Papaya salad - this was alright, mild wasn't as spicy, and the papaya were a bit soft, not crunchy, but still was pretty good. The crab smells so good Ribs - flavoring was nicely done, but texture was a bit tough and the inside was pink. I don't know if it was pink because of the seasoning or what. Roasted roast w/ Chinese spinach - this was very good with rice! I love the way they cut the vegetables here and the roast pork was very fatty. Beef salad - yum! Love this little family run Laotian/Thai restaurant nestled in a tiny strip shopping center in Haltom City! This our most recent visit (of many) and, as usual, we were not disappointed. We started with the Lao Sausage appetizer, a small plate stacked with slightly spicy, slightly salty slices of crispy around the edges, chewy in the center deliciousness! If you wish, you can ask for a side of sweet & and sour dipping sauce, but the sausage is good with or without it based on your own individual preference. Pat ordered the Boat Noodle Soup, which comes accompanied with a plate of lettuce leaves, mint, bean sprouts, lime and hot peppers which can be used to season your soup to your own tastes. Nouk, the owner and chef, (along with his wife), has been encouraging us to try custom dishes for the past several visits, so I decided to take him up on the offer tonight, ordering a "Spicy Fish" dish, leaving the rest up to him. I was pleasantly surprised with a penang curry paste based dish, with green beans, sliced chilis, pieces of fried tilapia and a little bit of coconut milk drizzled over the top, served with a plate of white rice. The dish lived up to its name, being just spicy enough without overpowering my taste buds and I walked away quite satisfied after totally finishing it!
