Angie was a great help in assisting me with creating my "birthday party" event and Gray was a great teacher to provide the knowledge and guidance needed to all of us newbies. He walked us through each of the different types of glass and textures and how to apply the colored glass pieces. We had a separate room and were given a lot of options to choose from for each individual project. Everyone had a great time and had so much fun coming up with creative ideas for their projects. Everyone loved the end results of their pieces! I enjoyed it so much that I'm going back again to do something for Valentine's Day! Yay!!!

And the studio space is great! Plus, the last throwing class I took was in downtown Chicago and the parking was sooooo expensive. She explained the entire process thoroughly and was just great to talk to. In the end I think we were in the studio for about an hour and a half or two hours. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks but i would recommend sticking to just the drinks unless you want to eat clay or have crumbs on your vase. It was such a casual and fun low pressure experience that it made us want to become members so that we could come and create whenever we want. I will say that there is a giant dog in the studio and a cat that just wander around unleashed so if that bothers you maybe mention something before you get there or don't buy a ticket. ($100 per couple) The vases were ready for pickup in about a month so plan accordingly if you are doing this as an out of towner or are planning to move within the month after doing this. When you walk in, there is a giant cement staircase and plant wall that all just looks SUPER cool. I am pregnant and needed to use the elevator, so I had to walk through the building. I was able to see into several different makerspaces and watch people work with wood and 3D printing. Once upstairs for the event, I found myself in more of an office/large lobbies area with an event space sort of like a garage. It was the perfect location for this event and I was excited to get to check it out.

UC has been adding various types of makerspaces across​ the campus but they are piecemeal​ and of varying​ quality. I am a bit concerned​ about its distance from the main campus; I understand the UC is running out of room on the main campus, but I hope this is not an indication of a trend. They have done a good job of making it open to all, ​but I hope that it does not separate​ itself from the university. I can imagine a time in the near future where this area becomes like the ​medical campus for main campus students, a place where they rarely​ venture and is not really intended for them.
