Kaitlyn McNamara is an amazing physical therapist, particularly for injured athletes. I'm a runner and I was recovering from knee surgery (meniscus). My goal was to train for a half marathon that was about 10 weeks from when I started therapy with Kaitlyn. She put me on a return to running plan right away that started with building up enough strength to run, then interval runs and by the end of my treatment I was able to run the half! I even had a small setback and she kept me calm and assured me it wasn't anything to freak out about. I did everything she told me to do and it worked! She is by far the best PT I've worked with and I've been to PT many times over the years. Her knowledge about running and body mechanics is vast and impressive. I cannot recommend her enough for people who are serious about rehabbing themselves after an injury. read more

Devin is a miracle worker! I injured my back on my FIRST run of the ski season, and after it didn't heal itself in a couple of weeks, I decided it was time for some professional help. Devin really took her time in understanding my injury and how it was impacting my day-to-day. She did a TON of hands-on work, and gave me strategic exercises to do on my own between sessions. She was great about explaining what was going on and helping me bring awareness to my body and ways I could adjust my movement and posture to support healing. I'd never gone to any sort of physical therapy before, but I had a mysterious weight training injury where I lost strength on one side of my upper body after feeling like I pulled some muscles. I went to Devin after speaking with her at Pac Heights Health Club. Devon explained to me that she does a lot more "hands on" work than some physical therapists. She listened to all my complaints and issues, and I went to her for several sessions where she performed what I can only say was a type of deep tissue massage. It was the kind of thing that "hurts so good" .. ha ha .. .After she did this I could turn my neck much more than I can remember in years, and my strength started to come back. Also, I just felt much much better, my muscles weren't as tight and tense, and she showed me some exercises I could do on my own to prevent further injury. Devon is a caring, intelligent person with a lot of knowledge and I would recommend her to anyone in a second. I currently have no insurance except Healthy San Francisco and am not full-time employed, but the second that changes, I would go to her immediately and often! Herniated Disc = pain everywhere. When I arrived to see Devin I was in so much pain I couldn't see straight. She immediately put me at ease and thoroughly explained what was going on in my lower back and what she was going to do to help. And help is an understatement. This girl is pure magic. The amount of time and intensity she puts into each treatment is unmatched by any physical therapist. It was a long healing process and Devin adjusted her treatment as I was progressing, eventually giving me resources to strengthen the area. She developed a customized program just for me, depending on how my back was feeling. And she "sees" with her bionic hands too - it's crazy - she can tell where the problem is and concentrates on it...yah...that part hurts...no light handed massage therapy here. Being injured is never fun, but having an attentive and knowledgeable physical therapist to get you through makes a huge difference. I've gone to Devin twice now, for two unrelated injuries. Each time she has designed a program to reverse my immobility, relieve my pain, and get me back to normal activity. Pretty much she is my hero! Devin is everything you'd want from a PT. She's extremely concerned and focused on your injury, and sometimes seems to know what hurts/doesn't more than you yourself! She has a really deep understanding of her field, which she applies scientifically to your regimen. At the same time she shows a great deal of compassion and support you as she works to get you recovered. Finally, she's really strong-- so she can really knead out all those painful places and get you onto the path to healing! Due to a car ran into me and my bike 2 years ago, I have been suffering knee and back pain. My doctor referred me to see Devin Reid since Feb. last year and I am still seeing her. She is the best PT that I have known. Not only she has a lot of knowledge about injuries, she also truly cares about her patients. She was the one who discovered that I have dysfunctions on my back due to the accident. Later on I got the confirmation from doctor as well. Because this discovery, I am able to receive more appropriate treatments and diagnoses from doctors. She is a great listener and very considerate person who happens to have a wonderful personality. Two years ago, my TMJ disorder flared up, leaving me with a headache for four months. My doctor sent me over to Devin (before she was working on her own), and within a week, my headache was gone. The physical therapy hurt like hell (massage on the inside of my mouth) but it was *good* pain, the kind you know is releasing all sorts of nastiness. Now I'm on week seven of a headache, caused by the same issues. My doctor sent me to another physical therapist, who did NOTHING, and my headaches were getting worse. Yesterday, by some miracle I found Devin and she worked me into her schedule. Leaving my session with her, I felt more relaxed than I've felt in weeks. So much of the tension is gone. There's still a lot of work to be done, and it will all hurt, but I'm incredibly grateful to her for releasing so much, which really gave me hope. She's amazing. Thanks to Devin my body is working well again!! I have seen countless body workers and physical therapists and Devin is the best at really addressing the whole picture. Thankfully she did not isolate one problem by trying to fix it without addressing the rest of my body at the same time. Devin is an amazing physical therapist. This goes above and beyond what I ever knew physical therapy to be. To make a 12 month story short, I have been struggling with sciatica due to a herniated disc in my lower back. I have tried everything in a broad spectrum; two chiropractors, two back specialists, an acupuncturist, and multiple massage therapists. For me, Devin is a perfect combination of manual therapy that relieves a lot of the constant pain that I feel and amazing advice and exercises that are working towards getting me back to my normal active self. I am young, and sciatica has been incredibly stressful to me both mentally and physically. funny story, a man ( me ) walks into a physical therapist's office ( Devin ) and says "it isn't my back that is bothering me, it is pain in my thigh and my knee"...........Devin politely and very professionally tells me the equivalent of " dude it is your back causing the knee pain" bang on diagnosis, confirmed by back specialist and an MRI...........fast forward a few months, after Devin's AMAZING treatments, I am a very happy ( and less cocky ) man. back to tennis 4 times a week, the gym 5 times a week....but all done with lots of stretching and back strengthening exercises. Devin has the touch! She is very skilled at finding the source of my pain, relieving it, and giving follow-up exercises to encourage healing. She also has radically improved my posture, which turned out to be a source of much of my pain. She has treated me for hip issues, foot tendon issues, arm tendon issues, and back pain. Picture it, March 2009. I had seen a number of "professionals" in the acupuncture/chiropractic/ART/medical fields after I had successfully run a half marathon, and suddenly acquired strange, disconcerting sensations in my hips and legs. Over a month, said "professionals" diagnosed me with a tight psoas, tight hamstrings, and inflammation. Really? That's why I would get pins and needles surrounding my thighs, so intense that it felt like my jeans were going to explode whenever I sat in a chair? Thanks for diagnosing my symptoms, geniuses. Now can I find out WHY i am in such misery?! I sent an email to Devin, and she immediately wrote back, scheduled an appointment, and told me that she suspected a disc dysfunction. An MRI later confirmed that she was correct. She helped me to understand my problem, and made me feel better by digging into my messed up muscles which had developed a nice habit of clenching down like vice grips. In the end what I love about her most was when we decided to get a divorce after a few months of regular visits. We both realized that my condition had benefited as much as it could from PT. MANY other "professionals" would have been happy to keep seeing me as long as I kept paying them. My condition is degenertative and thus can't be "fixed", only maintained, and I had reached that plateau. She helped me to realize my crappy predicament (I was in major confusion/denial and still had sights on running the San Francisco Marathon in July 2009), come to terms with it, and to make the best of it. So I traded in my running shoes for cycling shoes and immediately became obsessed with my new sport, and did two century rides in one month. Recently I saw Devin again because I had some knee pain after riding my bike. I was slightly freaking out. I mean, what would I have to pick up as a new sport--shuffleboard?! But within a minute of checking out my knee, Devin had some brilliant solutions once again. I rode 82 miles this weekend without even thinking about my knee pain--because it was gone! read more

I have been to many different physical therapists over the past 15 years for chronic back and neck pain and, more recently, a pretty bad case of tmj. Devin is by far the best! Devin saved me. I'm not kidding. I have a congenital condition involving a missing joint in my ankle and had surgery at Kaiser at the beginning of January 2009. I couldn't walk without crutches for 7 months after surgery (and one month before)- except for a couple of weeks during that period when I tried to walk and had to go back to crutches. Two Kaiser physical therapists could not help me. I was at my wit's end and really wondered whether I would walk again. I knew if I was going to I would need hands on work because of experiences I had had dealing with the effects of the missing joint before surgery. I was lucky to find Devin on Yelp. She painstakingly worked with me and my malfunctioning, inflamed, and adhered joints. Every week I felt improvements after therapy until I could stand on that foot. I am off crutches for more than a month now! I still have a ways to go and will stick with Devin. She's a miracle worker -- again, I'm not kidding. She does enough consistent hands on work that she can feel the condition of your tissues and joints and she knows techniques that will improve them. If I had stuck with Kaiser, I would still be on crutches. read more
