So I never saw a piano here, but if you're looking for a chill, local vibe, good cocktails, and chorizo toast that comes out flaming, this is the spot for you! English speaking, outdoor seating available, and near the university. read more

The fries are amazing, house cut, thin and crispy, simply delicious. Portions are nice and big so it's a good value. Staff is always friendly, service is fast, the place is clean. They have burgers and hot dogs as well but seriously you're doing yourself and your taste buds a disservice if you don't get the francesinhas. You have the option of more meat or less meat, egg or no egg, but the size is the same it's a matter of how tall it will be. Now parking may be a problem and the place may be a little hard to find but you're a few meters from Praça do peixe, by the ria so it's a wonderful part of town.

Wandering around old Aveiro I found O Batel in a narrow alley and decided to try. It was wonderful. First and foremost the waitress (Eline, if not mistaken). She didn't push for anything and gave me her honest opinion on the food and the portions. I decided by the "petingas em escabeche" and as a main course on the "açorda de gambas" (shrimp with shredded bread). For the record, I'm originally Portuguese and just love that kind of food. I just can say it was wonderful. One of the best I ever tried. I trully recommend O Batel.

We started with the bao buns and also the buns weren't the soft steamed buns I'd expect. They were dry. However, the filing was delicious. They have a legit pizza oven and a nice selection to choose from. They are doing a Neapolitan crust but their toppings were a bit heavy so the crust got soggy. Still good but soggy. The francesinha was delicious and I liked the spicy sauce. It wasn't spicy to me but it was tasty. The service was pretty good and that is saying something in Portugal. It is certainly a reasonable option in Aveiro.
