BBQ Sammich
Zach S.

Driving back to MD had to give NC BBQ a second try (and hopefully not get sick this time). Heard great things about this place across the internet, so decided to stop by. It's definitely a bit out of the way, but I can tell you it's 100% worth it. Beautiful outdoor and picnic area when you park, and you walk in to this old school type of bar/restaurant. Tons of nostalgic items displayed across the walls and behind the bar, as well as a huge black board with specials and drinks which makes ordering easy. I grabbed a local Rice Lager by Funguys Brewing, that sadly was oxidized. Not the bar's fault though, but was really disappointed about that. Went classic and got a BBQ sandwich and fries, which came with coleslaw and hush puppies. Now the fries and hush puppies were perfectly cooked. Crispy with a good crunch, but then soft in the middle. When it comes to the sandwich -- I guess I just don't get NC BBQ. Medium sized sandwich on a potato roll with a bunch of dry, mildly seasoned meat. I dumped 1/8th of a bottle of Pig Whistle BBQ Sauce (only thing available) and it really didn't add much except for the taste of vinegar. Threw the coleslaw on there too, and still just didn't blend right. Now overall, everything tasted good, it's just not my cup of tea. The service was absolutely amazing and the rest of the menu looks phenomenal so I'll definitely be giving it a second try when I'm back down next week!

Fried Chicken, ribs, pulled pork "barbecue"

I would love to give 4.5 stars. Service was super friendly, quick, and efficient. The environment was exactly what we were looking for in a local independent shop. Perfect!!! The food! Unfortunately, they had run out of brisket so we cannot review it. The Fried Chicken, deviled eggs, and smoked wings were all TOP NOTCH. I would order it over and over again! I would pass on the "barbecue" (pulled pork), cucumbers, and fries. They were just average, and this place has so much that's way above average! The ribs were pretty good, but dwarfed in comparison to the chicken products. Really wanted to try dessert but we were WAY too full!!! Hope everyone enjoys this place as much as we did!

Best BBQ we've had in North Carolina. Every meat was succulent and delicious. The sides were all well made and flavorful. Friendly and attentive staff, a pleasure to visit.

Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, combo Sliced Brisket and pork

Worth the stop from Goldsboro back home to Charlotte. I randomly picked this place because it was open on Sunday, full service, full bar and the food looked pretty good. The food ended up being better than good, it was great! Mac & cheese, baked beans, combo brisket and BBQ (pork), hush puppies. I wish I got the bartender's name but he was amazing and made the experience that much better. It's a cool looking spot too, had the picnic feel but with escalated service and food. I also ordered a banana pudding to go...wish I had gotten multiple! It was so good!

Delicious southern bbq. We always bring family from out of town here! I always get the pulled pork plate- but brunch is also a must.

Not very fresh. Been here before and it was amazing but seems to have gone downhill. Leathery chicken, shingle burger. Very disappointed.

As you enter there is a sign that tells you to go look at the menu board, pick out your drink, and go back to the counter to order. I grabbed a diet coke, and ordered a Common Cobb. I was a bit surprise when my total came to $18, as my salad was only $14 but I guess I should have paid attention that my bottle of soda was over $3. How much are the fountain drinks, I wonder? I found us a table inside since it was a bit hot that day (there is also plenty of seating outside AND inside if you go downstairs). The table and floor were messy but someone quickly came to clean it for me. They called our names over the loudspeaker and my best friend went to go get our food. She got the MotherClucker. Our food was REALLY good. If you like Cobb salad, you will definitely like this one. The chicken was pan seared perfectly, the vinaigrette was perfectly tangy and the bleu cheese was especially excellent. My friend's chicken sandwich has SO MUCH chicken salad on it. Impressive. There was so many neat items to see in the place. The murals were great, there were some cute retail spaces, a coffee bar up front, a bar downstairs, and ice cream outside! Unfortunately my bestie and I had too much to talk about so we didn't check it out as much as I otherwise wood. I would definitely try this place again!

Inside the shop was a classic deli where you order at the counter and then browse the various goods/merch while you wait. Service was fast and the sandwiches came out within 5 minutes of ordering. There are a couple picnic tables outside to sit and eat but other than that, mostly a to-go place. First timers: get the Uncle Primo's, you won't regret it!

But if the line were shorter in the future I'd come back and try other yummies from the menu.

They answered our questions and provided recommendations upon request. We had a large group, so it was taking a while for all of the food to be ready. I decided to just get a raspberry white chocolate scone and a greena colada so that I didn't have to wait a very long time to eat. We enjoyed sitting upstairs where we could all sit together and watch the scenery while eating. The kids loved the space, and it also provided us with some privacy for our birthday celebration. The scone was very good. I was a bit disappointed with the smoothie, though. I was expecting it to be flavorful and naturally sweet due to the mangoes and pineapple as well as the honey that was supposed to be added, but it was quite bland and not flavorful at all. Everyone else seemed to have enjoyed their food.

The time was supposed to be 10-20 minutes. It turned out more like 40, and no one seemed to notice that it was taking too long. The place wasn't full by any means. The turkey sandwiches were dry--minimal mayo and a couple of halved cherry tomatoes instead of slices. The turkey was tasty, but far too thickly sliced for my taste. Overall meh. My son had a burger which he said was huge but terribly overcooked and dry. (The order form does ask how you want the burger cooked, and I'd chosen Medium). Again, just a drop of sauce. Barely edible. The smoothie drinks and house made chips were good. But not enough to compensate for the sandwiches. Sorry!

We got Chorizo (not tradional, more like a sausage) which came with fries, Provoletta and Log Jammers. She was right... the Log Jammers are addictive, but being a cheese person, my fav was the Provellta - so fabulously cheesy. The sausage was very good as well. My only swith up on things qould be the sauces... which you can do. The 3 mustard sauce comes with .the Log Jammers - pare that with the sausage. The herb vinegar that come with the Log Jammers, pares best with the Provella. And last, but not least... pare the Boom Boom sauce with the Log Jammers. Fabulous! We also got Ribs and mac and cheese. The full rack was huge and had ao much meat. The rub on it was delicious and I'd recommend the spicy bbq sauce which pares well with the rub. The slaw is NOT to mayonnaisey but is sweet. The Mac and Cheese seems to be on the homemade side - creamy but not like it's all processed cheese - more real cheese. Then it's baked with a nice layer on top. We had a great experience and even though I don't usually go to a restaurant more than once, I will be back. The food was great and the people and friendly atmosphere made it so much more.

"Great deli-style sandwiches, from rather hidden location on Chapel Hill Rd"…read more Came by here on a Saturday. This place is REALLY hard to find... it's behind the State Farm building, but there's barely any signage from the street. (Note: some photos here in Yelp seem to be from an older location.) We actually came one Saturday, but it was unexpectedly closed, but we caught them the following one, so good to call and confirm before driving over. You walk up to a door on the back, and scan a QR code to see the menu. Then knock on/ open the door and someone will come to take your order. Then you wait outside and they bring you your sandwiches. The lady who took our order was very friendly. The kitchen was rather large, so I suspect it's used for more than just this business. We ordered two turkey subs-- the East New York (which was slightly spicy) and the Dumbo. Wait time was maybe 7-10 minutes or so. Both sandwiches came nicely wrapped, and I think total cost was a little over $20. And conveniently, they take Apple Pay. These were not your Subway or Quiznos sandwiches-- these were DELICIOUS pressed sandwiches (we got them on focaccia. I personally liked the Dumbo the best-- it had a nice mix of flavors that meshed well. The East New York was solid and had a nice spiciness, but not quite as exciting overall. Would I come back? Probably, but since there's no seating, and it's a bit awkward, maybe not the first place I'd think to try, but again, the sandwiches were REALLY good. We arrived around 5:45pm, and there was ample parking, but I will say the place was HOPPING by the time we left at 6:30pm. The decor is very cute-- old-style, good seating and a bar area as well. You order at the table, and food comes to you. My dining mate got the Cypriot (Halloumi, Fig, Arugula, Tomato, Pesto) with a side of curly fries, and I wasn't very hungry so I got the Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders kids meal with a side salad. I also got a delicious bottled sparkling lemonade. Service was fine-- food comes after order, but you're mostly on your own once food is delivered, as expected. We got a couple of napkins with the food, but there are more self-serve up in the counter. Just don't expect someone to check on you or anything. The food was GREAT. My dining partner loved her sandwich (commented especially on the fig spread) and fries, and I really liked my meal as well. The side salad was surprisingly delicious, especially the addition of pickled red onion. The place was clean-- I went to the restroom, too, and everything was stocked well. Price was very fair.
